    Today, we're diving into the not-so-secret society of aquascaping alchemists to transform the humble Eden 501 into the mythical Filtosmart Thermo 60. Through the magic of some online forum wizardry, a dash of Italian heritage, and a pinch of frugality, we unveil a contraption perfect for the cozy confines of your nano tanks.
    In other words, this is how to make an Oase Filtosmart 60 Thermo on the cheap! It's filter that doesn't even exist in this configuration, and is made even more affordable by old stock of Eden 501 filters being near identical products.
    All required products linked above. Superfish Eco Heater models do seem to be available again on Amazon, but since I didn't personally use this I have included Ebay links to the specific heater I used.
    I hope you enjoy this secret hack. Let me know in the comments how you get on!
    Cheers!!

    I will definitely be doing this to my Oase filtosmart 60 filter which is currently connected to some 12mm Fzone stainless steel lilly pipes using a 8-12mm nylon hose reducer.

    Glad I saw this video. Someone gave me an Oase filter and I've just modified it to the best of my ability and been using it accordingly. But now I want this instead. 2 things... I think you should just finesse the sponge over the heater directly and leave it be. I don't think it will melt/burn under water. Also to cut rigid plastic with that type of pipe cutter, apply a tiny amount of pressure with the blade of the pipe cutter then turn the pipe over and over. You may even apply extra pressure as you turn. Of course if it's a hard to replace piece you should still play it safe and use a diff. method. But it works wonders - I have the same type of cutter.

    Amazing timing, was going to get one of the oasé ones, didn't know about the eden gravel cleaner version, you just saved me some cash!
    Im also glad you addressed the filter issue with the media sitting under the intake, its what held me back from buying one, I feel silly for not realising you could just swap them around lol

    This is the kind of stuff I like. Do some diy for fairly low costs, to get an high end result

    Been thinking of a build with the 60, and using inline CO2 injection. For the 12mm tubing. This video has armed me with awesome information I’m am gonna need.

    I did the same conversion 2 years ago with the filtosmart 60 and the same heater (50watts). Still working perfectly. 15 litre nano. Easy to convert.

      Glad its still going strong. Bodes well for mine. Defo a worthwhile conversion for a Nano. Not sure I'd use it on much bigger that 20/30 litres. Your 15l is probably perfect!

    I'm completely new to the external filter game, does anyone know what glass lilypipes would fit this best?
    Know he mentioned it in the video, but it went over my head 😂

    So I noticed the US Amazon link links to the ZooMed canister filter. Is it the same as the Eden? Also do you know if any other heaters work? The US eBay link for the super fish pro ships from the UK and the 50W is out of stock right now. Thanks!

      I was wondering the same thing, based on the photos they do look identical or at least very similar but I'm not 100% sure if it will work

      Hiya. As far as I am aware, the Eden 501 was produced under a few different brands including Turtle Clean 501 and ZooMed TC-30 501 turtle canister filter. 👍

    I have one of the eden 501...i like it but the noise from it drove me nuts!.... It there was an easy way to nake it quieter i would be tempted to try this hack.

      @AquariumShed  Před 3 měsíci

      Interesting. Mine is sooooo quiet atm. I presume its something to do with the impellar as theres not really much else to go wrong. Have you tried applying some vaseline to the magnetic rotor and impellar shaft? This usually does the trick on my Fluval 306.

      @@AquariumShed thanks! Yeah I liked it other than that....I have some silicone grease I might give that a whirl.

    Will this work with the oase 50w heater?

    • @AquariumShed
      @AquariumShed  Před 3 měsíci

      Hiya. Afraid I am not sure. My hunch is no.
      The Superfish 50w heater is 17cm long, and the Oase 50w heater is 23cm. It slightly depends on how much of that length is taken up by the controller, but 6cm is a fairly big difference when I only had a clearance of about 3cm with the Superfish. You don't really want the heater hitting the bottom of the plastic and I don't know for sure that the Oase one would have a tight seal if it wasn't inserted all the way into the O-ring and you may have performance issues if it isn't adequatley submerged.
      All I can definitley say, is the Superfish heater fits and is cheaper!

      I’m pretty sure it would since it’s using an Oase bracket not sure how it wouldn’t. I feel like that heater product is his dropship product or something and wants your money

    • @AquariumShed
      @AquariumShed  Před měsícem

      @@politicalgarbagewater Ha. I wish I was in the dropshipping game. Sadly not. To be clear, I am certain the Oase heater would fit in the hole of the adapter, but I think the overall length of the heater would be too long for the filter chamber and so the lid would not clip on, because the adapter and heater are designed for use in Oases larger FiltoSmart models. This is all just speculation based on the measurments I saw in the listings, but pretty sure I'm right.
