My dad was an IU grad and introduced as a child to the mid 70s Hoosiers BBall program. I’ve loved for this team over 45 years. Solidified when I was in my 3rd year at IU in 1987 and got to experience a Championship year. Go IU.
And imagine if Larry Bird had stayed at IU instead of dropping out after 10 days in his freshman year (1974)? Knight later said that his biggest mistake was not recognizing that Bird came from a very poor background and was overwhelmed by the size of the school
Knight's self inflicted arrogance drove Bird the wrong way. I believe the story goes that Bird ran into Knight randomly on Campus, Bird offered a friendly hello, but knight gave him the cold shoulder. If knight had just slightly better people skills, he would've had Coach K level recruits throughout his entire career, & we're talking potentially 6+ national titles.

@@slimypickle19 that story is NOT TRUE.
@@slimypickle19 never heard that story nor ever heard Bird didn't like Knight. GFY
Bama was leading them late in Sweet 16. Knight always said Bama was their toughest opponent.
