Heatless Curl Showdown! Octocurl vs. Robe Tie Curls, Curling Rod, Leggings, Headband & Socks - Jak na to + styl
Literally tried robe curls for the first time the night before you uploaded this! Ready to up my game already đ You give the absolute best advice Abbey! You help me feel like my best self đđ
I grew up having thin socks tide around my head before every Sunday morning. The sock curl always made my hair look great. It was a different method and a different time, but my maw maw knew what was up.
I got super excited seeing this video on my feed! I really feel like my heatless style prayers have been answered! Thank you so much for being super informative and showing us all the variations of styling!! I tried the robe style curls right after watching one of your recent vids raving about them and the curls turned out so good! Super satisfied you accepted this request!!
I have an OCTO curl that I havenât used for about five years. I think my hair was too short at the time even though I was excited about using it but now my hair is long enough so Iâm going to give it a try. Thanks for the reminder and the inspiration.
The curling rod works perfectly for me. I spray my hair with sea-salt-spray beforehand and after Iâm done with curling and curl every single strand of hair around it. Like I donât add more strands as I go I just curl one strand til itâs done, and then curl the next strand of hair around the same curling rod. I have very heavy and thick hair and curls (even curling irons) normally last like 3 hours max. Curls with the curling rod stay pretty the whole day
Using leggings was the best thing I learned from TikTok. I would never go back to using heat on my hair again. They last so long too.
Waiting for my hair to grow long enough for that method
I havenât tried that one yet!! Iâm gonna try tonight!!
Mine last barely for two hours.. đ
I bought a heatless band thing per watching you do the robe thing and tried it out this week and it turned out so great! Curls lasted for 3 days!!
i LOVE the ocotocurl!! they saved my hair from so much heat been buying from them for the longest đ
Thank you so much of this tutorial! I just tired it tonight for basketball pics for tomorrow, and canât wait to see the results!
Wow! Thank you so much for all this info. This is great. Iâve been using a thin robe tie. It took a bit of a learning curve, but I do like the results. BTW, love the lipstick/gloss combo. Thanks, Abbey!
Great video! You got me into heatless curls. I'll never use a curling iron again. I love them and it takes like 2 minutes! Thank you! â„ïžđ
You need to try the flower curler with the four rings, I've been using it for years! the flower curler is my absolute favorite heatless curler and I own/love the octocurler too.
Also I love videos like these that compare multiple methods and rank which ones are best and why, super informative âșïž
How long do the curls last?
@@laurenelliott5175depends on your hair, whether you heat it or wet it prior, how tight you roll it and how long you leave it in for.
I have the octocurl satin but I hadn't tried it wrapping two at a time, so that's a new neat thing I'll try! Thanks!
Thank you so so so much for this video!! SO helpful!đđ
Ahhh this is so gorgeous Abbey!! I've been thinking of this for awhile now but have you ever thought about getting a qualification in hair? You know so much about it, even going into the fine science of it, and i feel you need a certificate đ€©đ
Can you do a video showing the three different methods of the octocurl please? Interested in seeing the results in the curl.
You are so great and honest! thank you for all your tips!
Such a good video!! Thank you! đ Lisa
The final week of September, Abbey!đđâ€ïžâ€ïž
Abbey. I'm 73 with one length to mid rear. I've been using the heatless curl for a while now. My method doesn't use any tool. I simply zig zag part two sections which I twist. Slightly damp hair with leave in 'It's A 10' product. It controls the frizz and gives soft waves.
Thanks for the vid. I may try the sock method as I have a new package of very thin stretchy socks. Any of the methods you showed can be fine depending on the style, you're going for.đ
I'd love to see all of the 3 different finished options with the octocurl to see the difference placement makes
yay! been wanting to try the heatless curl for a while now...not done watching the video but do you use any products to keep the curl in place? thanks!
I liked all the techniques mentioned. I would first try what I have at home like socks, leggings, robe ties. Then I might try the other ones. I have tried the satin material and finds it absorbs water in the hair and is gentle on the hair. I like the amount of curlers included in the octocurl, the snappable headband, and the elastics for securing the hair. I have tried other curlers that had 6 or less and no headband. The octocurl is good value for the price.
Abby, I love your videos. I normally donât comment on these, but have you tried a sponge roller or rod? Before I was a natural curly girl I used sponge rollers to curly my hair. Tried them out, you might like the effect.
Have you tried the heatless flower curl yet? That one is really cool! Super comfortable and it works amazingly well!
love your comparisons and recommendations! do you know what product you would recommend to provide hold for heatless curls?
I grew up with my mom tying our hair with strips torn from an old sheet. Perfect curls every time!
The Shonagh Scott method!!! Life changing!
Hi Abbey ! I purchase a curling rod from a company caller heatless hair which is 100% silk and it is actually really comfortable to sleep in !! You should look into it
Does anyone have a technique that doesn't just flatten the top? I work so hard to build volume with my ultra fine hair and when I try heatless curls, the bottom looks frizzy and the top just gets smooshed to my head đ«€
the "section off crown" method is good for volume and the "t-shirt hair donut" by my pawfect family.
@@VanityismyReligion I'll try anything that has 'donut' in it đđ©!!
Thatâs been my experience with heartless curls too. Will be very interested to hear any advice given here!
Same. Following for responses.
I zigzag part the top before I tie it!
Redâs Makeup Bag has a great video for Bob length hair. Hers turned out amazing.
I love your showdown videos!
I have naturally wavy/curly hair and I have been wanting to try some new ways to style my hair and avoid damage. Sometimes I would like a more organized curl in my hair. I can usually achieve that with lots of water and products. I may be trying the legging method sometime soon! Thank you for this video. I am definitely interested in purchasing the octocurl too!
Depending on your hair type it might end up very frizzy. I have wavy curly 2c/3a hair and it took forever to dry and was frizzy when I took it out. The "no heat blow out" using a T-shirt worked better tbh.
I've been trying out the robe tie method. Pretty easy with the method you showed but trying to figure it out because 1/2 my head has a great curl and the other side looks more crimpy so, going to keep trying to get it right lol.
Thanks Abbey...I think I like your robe tie curl the best:)
Would love your review of the Sleepy Tie for preserving blowouts, or any other methods to for keeping that blowout fresh overnight! â€
thank you!! so excited to try octocurl, i am desperate to find a heatless option that works for me!
Definitely going to try the octocurl now! For future videos, I would love to see you try some subscription boxes and review the products/ingredients in them! I just started my subscription to allure beauty box and found myself wishing I had your input on the products!
Thank you! Let us know how it goes! đ
Omg the way you tie the ends of the octocurl is a game changer! I have it but didn't always love it cuz the ends would get so kinked!!
Yes, she did a great job showing the best way to tie off the ends. Hope that method works well for you! đ
Awesome! Thanks for including all the different techniques I think I will try out the leggings⊠In the winter time :-)
Can you give us your thoughts on how well the Shark Flexstyler performs? Dyson products seem so good but the price is so hard to justify because I would only want the blow dryer, round (oval) brush and the curling attachments. I would really appreciate it because you have such thorough reviews.
Loooove this video, when I cut my hair short I used to just braid it and it gave me great curls since my hair is really thin and I don't have much. But now that it's grown that method is just not doing it for me, I feel something is missing...something like a sock lol. I will try first with the sock and then try to find those other things because I loved some of the results.
Thanks for this Abbey - I realize it is a little old, but it just popped up on my home page. I was wondering if with the Octocurl, you could do a braid method, since there are two pieces of the Octocurl per piece of hair?
Roll your front portion with the headband gives better front results. It also helps to hold it in place when you do the sides.
I have a large silk scarf that I have been in the same way as the "robe curl" method. My hair is pretty long and I love that the ends are long and I can tie it up so my hair isn't all over me while I'm sleeping. I considered purchasing one of those cushy curl Roda but worried that it wouldn't be comfortable. I think I might just have to get the Octocurl!
Thank you! Report back if you give it a try! đ
Fab video! thank you so much x
Ok Abby, thank you for sharing , question:) since octocurl sits on top of your hair, does it leave circle indentation on your crown area, my hair is thin so am afraid it would leave dents ?
I use silk legging on day one & for the rest of wk use Giant silk scrunchies on top of head w ends spiralled into it. Mon hair is super curly which I like, wk ends w a bouncy blow out style. LOVE. Hair is so soft
i use the second one and have very much defined curls with it. youâre supposed to take thin pieces when curling. not huge pieces. though i do have medium to thick hair.
What products do you use beforehand to help curl hold? Dry or damp hair?
Hi, I was wondering if you could review the Lus Elixir oil and the Bounce Curl Light oil. Even if its just reading the ingredients and saying if the price is worth it. They're around $30-$40 dollars but the ingredients seem so simple.
I tried sock curls and they were really uncomfortable and fell out of my hair. I'll have to try some of yours. I need a system that is good for rough sleepers and comfortable to sleep on. I don't understand how people sleep with heatless curls lol.
Girl great video! Thanks â€
I got the sleepy tie that you mentioned in a recent video and was wondering if that could be used for heatless curls?! đ€đ€
What products do you recommend to put on before your hair before this heartless curl method?
Do you re-wet the hair everytime you do heatless curls? And do you do the curls every night? đ
Is using these no heat less curl things wrapped in a silk bonnet considered a protective hairstyle?
Also when using heartless curls they advise you to mist the hair but itâs said that putting hair up when wet is very very damaging so is it best not to do that step? TY
I recently bought this heatless curl set at Primark for like 3⏠and it has some sort of styrofoam in it to give it that curling wand shape and a satin cover plus two satin scrunchies. I also use the crisscross method you described in this video and I add quite small sections at a time starting quite high up and it gives me the most perfect curls ever! Better than I could achieve with a curling iron (mainly Iâm just not talented with those). I of course always put hydration and leave in conditioner spray into my hair to dampen it before I wrap it so it holds the curl better. i wish I could attach a picture of my curls here haha. The only downside of it is that it really is not the most comfortable thing to sleep in. But in the morning when I see my curls itâs definitely worth it!
âI can assure you I was not filming this video when I was 5 years oldâ had me rolling đđ
Pleaseee do another week long hair vlog with heatless curls â€â€â€
Have you tried a robe tie like the cozy confidence one? It's thicker but squishy. I got one but haven't used it yet.
Thank you so much for this video love your videos. I use olaplex with your recommendations thank you so much.
Man, this makes me really miss my longer hair - it looks so nice!! I completed my goal to donate my hair 3x in my lifetime and I'm contemplating doing it again - so I 'may' be able to try one of these techniques! In any event, your hair is beautiful no matter if it's sleek & straight or wavy/curly. Personally, I'd go for the curls every single time... Another great video!!
Thank you for donating your hair; it alone speaks to your high character. đđ
Wow respect đđŒ
I apologize if you answered this in the video, but which method would work the best for shoulder length hair?
Would love to see your hair in a ponytail or bun!
Did you start with already loosely curled hair or like air dried hair!?
Thank you for the extra tips on the octocurl Abby ! I have never seen the "section off crown" method and this really really works for me. I LOVE the extra volume for my shoulder length
medium texture hair. I can only use one strip at a time but I used your "sandwich method" on my ends by folding over and tying it off since my hair doesn't go all the way to the end of the strip. I do however have a generic octocurl and I do not like the thicker headband portion since I sleep in mine - just a heads up for anyone in the market wink wink .
My hair is fine and stick straight and never holds a curl. Do you product recommendations to help this technique work?
What length are you using with the Octocurl? I have long hair like you, but not sure which one to get.
Thank you so much and it works great
What material is your robe tie made of? Is it cotton or flannel? Thanks
One question for you, how do you recommend SLEEPING with the Octocurl?? Do you remove the headband orâŠ? Thanks in advance âșïž
@Abbey Yung Which equipment you use for video recorder? The brand and model please .. tks =)
When I click your Amazon link , it takes me to the Amazon online storefront . I only use my Amazon app, you should find a way to have a link for inside the app . Thank you!!
Very nice.. I'm pretty old and get beautiful curls in my shoulder length hair by using foam rollers and or pin curls.. try it. Been around forever. I prefer curling all the hair, not just the lower part. The weight of the hair prevents a tall head of curls. I'm going to try the socks on my man's long hair though.
Very informative Abbey
I cannot do heatless curls with wet or even just damp hair because it just does not dry unless I apply heat. Maybe that is because I have very fine hair and live in the subtropics with 80-90% humidity???
I use a robe tie but I use a lot less hair each time I wrap my hair around so I have tiny curls.. the shortest layers in my hair are practically nonexistent when I do this đ I'm going to have to use bigger sections of hair
I wonder if the short version of the octocurl would work for međ€ would love to do this but my hair sits right above my shoulders slightly. đ€đ€
Thank you, Abbey! Did you have the standard size or long hair octocurl?
Check out the bottom of this chart for sizing info. Hope that helps! đ www.octocurl.com/pages/how-to-choose
WhatttttâŠ.Did you read my mind, girl? This is what I needed.
omg tysm i tested the legging technic, it works so good ! i finally found my pretty heatless technic, i can't even do that with an iron xD
Do you have anything for like shoulder length hair?
I canât get over the âI hope you have a great few daysâ sign off. Itâs so freaking cute
Iâve just moved into a new country, our things havenât came yet(Ofc I brought essentials tho) we are staying in a hotel the leggings failed miserably but I found a thick ribbon and that works!
I used the bathrobe belt but folded in half and twisted it before starting putting my hair in
What size octocurl did you use in this video?
How to you keep you hair dry in the shower? Can you keep it completely dry after showering?
I would think the satin Octocurl would cause your hair to have more static, I know satin pillow cases do. I like the idea of the slip of the satin but not the static, has anyone used it the satin and noticed had any issues with static?
Which one is the most comfortable to sleep in?
Have you tried the headband ?
hey abbey! Ive noticed that when i blowdry my hair with a roundbrush is feels super soft and silky, but then whenever i straighten my hair it feels so dry like straw! Do you have any idea as to why this could be? Or if its the straightener im using? â€
Itâs likely the amount of heat and how itâs distributed across the hair. Hair dryers get hot, but some of that heat is lost as the air travels between the nozzle and your hair. With a straightener youâre putting two heated plates in direct contact with your hair which is more stressful. Getting a straightener that allows for lower heat settings and/or has plates that are made of materials that are more gentle on the hair (like ceramic) may help, but without knowing what straightener you use itâs hard to say how much those things might be a problem with what youâre currently using.
Do you use any styling products in your hair before using a heatless curling method?
I used a curl cream when I used to do it. đ
At 12:12 what's the difference between this at 12:12 and the 1st rod u showed?
Hi Abbey! I would love to see a new video of you showing us your favorite everyday lipsticks/lip-whatever. We have a similar skintone and it has been so long since your last video. Love from Sweden xx
Hey Abbey. I am now starting my hair growth journey so your videos are my go to and Iâm officially obsessed. I would love it if you can review products from Nutrafol, like their hair growth nutraceutical (vitamins), growth activator serum and their scalp support products (exfoliating mask, shampoo, conditioner)! Thanks â€
I notice that the strands you are wrapping are quite thick. More curling effect, tighter locks and probably lasting longer if the strands are thiner.
I wish that someone would do a video on how to get looser or larger curls. My hair is naturally curly, but not very hard to straighten. However it dries, it will stay that way and in this scenario, it holds a curl too well. I always end up looking like Shirley Temple! I've tried to wet my hair less, but I have to dampen it a little because dry hair doesn't curl at all. I've tried thicker curling rods or doubling them up and that helps a little. I also tried brushing out the curls and the frizz is it creates is unsalvageable! Lol. If anyone that happens to read this has any tips, please let me know. I've been going through nothing but trial & error for the last year! â€
Can I sleep with my hair wrapped in the octocurl? How long do you keep the octocurl in to give you these results?
I cut my long hair in 2020 and is been 2 years and my hair still short. Now all I want is my hair long so I can do all this fun stuff.
Maybe in another 3 more years I can try this methods.
such a great video
