- Today I’m talking with Allison Askew of Arrow J Beef Co., a first-generation rancher with many irons in many fires. She’s sharing her inspiring story of unconventional homesteading to encourage everyone who doesn’t feel like they fit in any particular box. If you ever feel like you’re wearing too many hats to actually be good at any one thing, take heart. If you're overwhelmed or tired of feeling like you're not understood by those around you, Allison has some words of wisdom just for you.

So blessed by how open you both are about the sacrificial aspect of achieving your dreams. Thank you for “plowing the fallow ground ” before those of us who know nothing about this kind of lifestyle and being willing to share 💕
Loved this episode! I resonate with not fitting in anywhere either. But it’s wonderful to know I’m in good company. Thank you posting these podcasts. So helpful. 💙
Man this episode is inspired! Thank you so much for the real talk and the raw honesty of your story. We are working to remake our high desert juniper and sage into sustainable food production by building soil and “eating the elephant” one bite at a time. Thank you so much for this episode! 🙏🏼❤️
Yeah! Someone doesn’t make sourdough. I can’t get a starter to work. I have tried and tried. I just keep using my yeast. Great interview. I love my dishwasher. It has been a big help in canning.
What are you finding as the problem...we have started our 2nd as the first failed. Chris
I felt that comment about maybe seeing your dreams come true at the end of your life.😂 We are restoring a couple thousand acres of grasslands too. In our area it's, because a couple annual grasses that the pioneers planted took over the perennial grasses, after their animals over grazed and droughts hit. When people quit letting the grasslands burn, other species began to take over and use all the available water.
Yes...if not you then who...I so love your generation that is rebuilding a wholesome life...my hat's off to you...
Great conversation!!!!!
You both are speaking my language 😊. I have been doing this since my childhood, raised our kids and continue in this chosen lifestyle as an empty- best. Both kids and their families live in central Nebraska - living their rural lifestyle!
Even in sparse southern Colorado, I crave to find like-minded women.
Empty-nest
Wonderful talk ladies! Thank you for the motivation ❤️🙏
Very though provoking conversation. Thank you 🙏🏻
I love this! Peace is important!
Wonderful !
Homesteading was fashionable a decade ago... now it’s a necessity. Many ventured in for a cool and alternative lifestyle that brought food security as an alternative. But now... now people are seeking homesteading out of necessity. We’re seeing food shortages, foreclosures, repossessions, layoffs, contracts for home building, manufacturing and purchases are being canceled in sudden and such high volume. There’s a storm coming and it’s undeniable at this point.
I also agree with your thoughts on being social in our communities. It's the glue.
I was excited when a good friend and former student of mine announced the pasture rodeo in Chugwater last week - Caleb Dorenkamp. An upcoming and coming young man with an interesting background.
I don’t think anyone would consider early 30’s to be “older,” unless they’re from the 1800’s.
You lost me at: god provides for you.
