That car was a huge inspiration to me when I started to build my Grasshopper / Hornet conversion in 2016. Loved this style so much back then.
It really was. I cannot believe i have it in the fleet. It is one of my most prized cars. Shodog was amazing.
Sweet car.Your friend is like the organ donor that saves several other people. His collection will live on,stories will be told collections enriched.
It surely will.
What a awesome way to remember and honor him
Thanks so much
More of this project please. I wanted a hotted up Hornet, or Fox as a kid, but then I found the Kyosho Ultima. And that was that. But still love seeing Tamiya cars be tuned up and modded.
Ill post a lot!
I was very sad to hear about his passing when it was mentioned on TC. I'm so happy to see you doing this. I'm also a HUGE lover of the Hornet as I've posted videos on mine and how that kit got me into the hobby in 1985. Excited to see the rest of the build.
It really broke my heart. We had so many 1:1 and RC car things planned and they just...never happened. Same here man, this is going to be a good build. I know he will love to see it.
the hornet was my first car back in 1985, i believe... i know i wanted it mid 84 but can't remember when i actually talked my grandma into buying it for me. i still have the chassis, but my beloved parma stinger is gone... stolen with many other parts, a whole falcon(except the body and a rear and front shock) and my associated t2 with the trinity monster mod motor! i just rebuilt the old hornet with a grasshopper body and parts and bought a re-re hornet. i have the same crp front shock set because i blasted it into a parking brick when it went out of control! after upgrading my hornet, it was faster than any other car on the block until my friend with the money bought his frog an 11 turn revolution insane motor! i just love this car!
It really is an amazing car! Thanks for the story!
After your videos on his collection I’ve decided to do a paint job similar to this when I restore my 87 hornet
So awesome man. A lot of people love the paint job he did here.
Nice Hornet! Love the hornet, so much fun to drive. Mines completely stock, but I do have the rear suspension lowering mod, fitted and it looks awesome. Looking forward on seeing all the hop ups put on your hornet. I also want to put the roll cage on mine eventually. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Me too. A dead stock one is still an awesome one. Thanks man.
It's great to see a legendary hornet from a legendary guy being Trafford to someone who loves the hornet. We will all get to see this car made into something greater.... I'm so glad u are sharing this car with everyone.
Ampro the hell out of this car!!!
Thank so much.
HAHA! Love it.
The guy put the best mods on the car and was bugging you about parts. He would of love you to put your best parts and mods into this car. Maybe a brand new unheard parts from ampro.
Make a kit honoring ur freind. A special kit. Fully loaded, most modified kit to date, extra clean and colorful. Name it after him, that everyone can buy,. He was waiting on u to create something special. All his cars are modified in his collection.
Your rear lower shock mount thing and pivot brace, in vivid orange, adorns my super hornet. A million miles away in a rural part of South Africa. When I go, my modest collection all going to charity. No kids to pass it onto, so it might as well help somebody.
That is awesome to hear! Can you please send me some pictures of it? I would love to show off a hornet in South Africa! amproengineering@gmail.com
@@AMPROEngineering 100%. Will be in your inbox this weekend.
Great job taking care of your friend . 👏
Least I could do.
The Hornet is a special car (also with The Frog, Grasshopper) with me and I suppose with millions.
And this one's amazing, congrats on owning it after Shodog.
I'm almost as excited to know of this build series to be happening
as encountering a new part of the sitcom series Blackadder. 🙃
Thank you so much. It is an amazing car and I cant wait to get it going!
This a great looking car and thank you for cleaning it! That was driving me crazy the whole time!! LOL! What a wonderful way to add to a terrific memory and make the car what he wanted it to be and keeping it what it would have been made into at the time and not doing all of it. I am sure he is smiling down on you and very happy it is going to be finished and in the hands of someone that truly is going to cherish it!!
LOL it was killing me too. I wanted to show a before but now it is all tucked in and ready for mods! Yeah I think he will be happy the car is getting done.
Awesome looking hornet. I'm stuck between the hornet or Grasshopper for my next kit.
They are both awesome cars and you cant go wrong with either!
Definitely very cool, the way the front some what reminds me of the Ishipla Monster
It really does. Man that is a rare one!
Cool, it will be good to see your work on this car. Always sucks to lose a friend, this can be a promise kept and a tribute to Shodog.
Thanks so much.
My father and I recently picked up a heavily, heavily used Hornet off facebook, it has very clearly been crashed multiple times quite badly as the whole nose of the tub was uh...halfway hanging off? I had to glue it back together and custom build a whole new front chassis brace that ties the nose to the tub better. But it has that same style of front shock tower! to which I had no idea it was something readily available for the car. I figured it was a limited/low production kind of piece. The tires front and rear are almost completely bald. It also came with a complete vintage Futaba set up using the old Futaba 'G' plugs, mechanical speed control and all.
But coming from the world of Scale trucks like the RC4WD TF2, Vintage Tamiya engineering confuses and worries me, as prior to the acquisition of the hornet the oldest RC in my collection was an HPI mini trophy from 2010.
Of course all that rambling aside, you're very much the right person to own this one. You'll continue its Legacy very well.
As someone used to vintage tamiya engineering, allow me to tell you it still worries me. They have done some weird stuff....sometimes it works, other times.....but the hornet is a gem. Its terrible at everything yet, its perfect somehow.
Love a hornet and loving seeing shodogs collection…great stuff and looking forward to more 😍🤩😎
You will see a lot more of this and his collection.
When i watched this video for the first time i immediately wanted that crp front suspension, but i didnt even have a hornet yet! I now have two hornets, one with full crp front and rear suspension and a world engines rockbuster. I blame you, ampro. Thanks... i guess.
Haha! Yeah I ordered the AMPro front end from shapeways to get this going!
Looking forward part 2….
I got some parts for it! Ill start soon!
@@AMPROEngineeringsoon.....
You could do the roll cage in chrome.I’m sorry for your loss of your friend.I’m shore the hornet will come out awesome
Yeah i think that is spot on!
Priceless 🥰
It really is.
Nice hornets my first ever RC kit I ever had and I love the hornet also! I love your hornet those colors look cool on it! I think a red cage would look sweet on it!
Oh that could work too!
You should probably get a driver in shodogs likeness and put him in there
LOL I already asked his soon if I could do that!
I would build a second chassis for Jim’s car. I hadn’t heard he passed very sorry to here he was a good friend
The chassis isnt remarkable and I dont want to cut off the towers on another chassis. I also want to use those CRP parts since they are pretty cool. He was a great man.
I did a little more research, about the rear wing. I believe it’s a Kyosho OT-64 special wing that could be used on the Ultima mk1 and the Javelin
No kidding? Well you would be the one to know that! Thanks Sean!
@@AMPROEngineering your welcome bud 👍
I like the paint pattern he did I would not change the metal lights that’s how he wanted it
Nope, I am making some to match those for my bumper! Never changing those.
Awe man I seen showdogs stuff and just wow.... so for color for roll cage. Maybe match the nerfbars. At that point it might look seamless.
Yeah I think that's the way to go!
@@AMPROEngineering We need to skype call again well maybe Zoom. I have a couple ideas I wanna run by ya.
Awesome video man, that wee Hornet will be amazing when it’s finished, are you gonna give it back to him when you finish upgrading it,just curious 🤨
Thanks. I asked about that and he was adamant I keep it.
Cool! 🙂
Thanks! I really love this little guy
Those lights on the body probably came off a trucks roll bar from another kit...clodbuster?
No idea. I am sure some company in the 80's made them.
Chrome for the roll cage 4 sure
All in!
Hornet, Frog, Hotshot…. Tamiya Holy Trinity….
And one Avante to rule them all!
Ah the avante. I do love mine...when it is in one piece.
Did you ever 3D print clod buster original Chevy grill and tail gate?
I have not. Ill likely make a version soon for a build as soon as I do the interior.
You know there's a company that makes a full metal chassis for this car and I think you have there another company's aluminum rims?
No idea who made the wheels. I think CRP?
I shared it. THANK YOU SO MUCH ---be happy ❤!! Want likes? -> p̲r̲o̲m̲o̲s̲m̲!!!
Thank you!
