Instead of constructing greenfield elevated expressways from scratch if not absolutely essential, the financially more viable ways to increase speed on highways are: a) to increase lanes on both planks b) fencing so that stray animals, cattles and folks etc can not trespass or encroach upon c) proper lighting at nights and policing d) construct bypass where the highways pass through crowded cities, congested localities etc, e) year round maintenance and periodical relaying of lanes f) separate bus lanes with bus stops etc.
The cost of land acquisition is insanely high on the lands on the sides of existing road network. That's why greenfield Expressways are being considered
Building roads is great but we need to put sense into people’s head on how to drive. People drive like crazy on highway and expressway. Trucks are going slow in first lane, some people are using emergency lane to pass, using high beams, honking, driving in between multiple lanes. All that needs to be fixed too otherwise you can build as many expressways as you but it won’t have much effect due to people like them.

I was travelling from Thane to Sindhudurg District and we all know that Sindhudurg is in konkan so we have to cross ghats to reach there so I thought that It is going to be hectic because I thaught the roads might not be good. But when I actually saw those roads and i was astonished. The Mumbai-Goa highway which was at first very bad was now perfectly built and we faced no inconvenience still some Road building work is going on in some patch but still our journey went smoothly due to such beautifully built roads.

Parallely awareness should be created among drivers to follow traffic rules such as lane discipline, high beam culture, opposite direction driving, over speed, lorries always on the speed lane, etc. The punishments should be heavy otherwise nobody will follow the rules.
To increase speeds, three things need to happen 1) Good roads & infra 2) Better & safe vehicles 3) Better driving sense. Unless 2) & 3) are accomplished higher speeds can only lead to more accidents
First thing we should make trucks and slow moving vehicles to go on the left lane or if they want to overtake let them and go back to left lane after overtaking. This will easily improve the speed right away.

Road is great. But still, to this day, we don’t have a solar policy that permits tapping of the rich, energy dense solar radiation that India is lucky to enjoy. Flooding the energy grid w this clean power and mass production of green hydrogen will cause energy prices to plummet. Our oil and fertilizer bill will disappear. He already said about that, but in the last 9 years, road quality index India jumped from 70 to 46 so it's not it's not improving. But we really need to put strict driving rules and laws. Alone roads are not enough.

The government can spend not billions, but trillions of $, but it will be akin to giving a typewriter to a monkey & expecting it to type out an epic. The problem is not so much as infrastructure as attitude. Even the so called educated people in mega-cities do not obey basic traffic laws. If people park wherever they want, they clog up the streets and roads, reducing the street width and this causes traffic speed to slow down and worse, accidents to happen. Everyone blames everyone else. We need to better ourselves first.
