This Commando Movie Reaction was Abby's very first action movie ever! The Commando Reaction was filmed in October of last year, before Abby filmed the Predator Movie Reaction, the Terminator Movie Reaction, or any other.
It is hard to find an Arnold movie that Toy hadn't watched, so it was a wonderful piece of news that she had never seen Commando before.
The Commando reaction that you are watching was Toy and Abby's very first reaction together. You can see their instant chemistry. At Run to the Movies we are so massively lucky that the chemistry between everyone is amazing.
In the months after the Commando Reaction was filmed, Toy and Abby recorded a Terminator Reaction and a Terminator 2 Reaction, as well as Reactions to Lethal Weapon, The Equalizer, Unleashed, and many other action movies.
With Hannah, Abby recorded a John Wick Movie Reaction, and many others.

What is Arnold's cheesiest movie?
@RuntotheMovies Arnold’s cheesiest is Hercules in New York and End of Days
Cheesiest i'd say something like "Jingle all the way".
I'd say this is a pretty basic example but: Action = Think Gun's, Car chases and Explosions as opposed, Thriller = more Suspense & Intrigue 🙂
Last Action Hero in my opinion is pure cheese all the way. That said there are a few great action movie moments in it.
@runtothemovies Hey ladies. Awesome reaction as usual! This was one of the movies that inspired me to join the US Marines! That and a lot of mornings of GI Joe b4 school! Gotta love the Arnold lines.... So cheesy but so iconic! Upgrade and Man From Uncle I think you guys would love! Keep up the great reactions and love! ❤🤍💙💛
I would recommend Runto the Movies do a reaction vid on "The Running Man" as well.
I don't blame Abby for her lack of knowledge about these types of movies, like many other reactors in the same situation I blame their parents.
To her credit, she was catching on to the formula as she was watching.
@schadenfreude5349 my son's in his teens, but I'm making sure he's watched all the movies and TV shows I grew up watching.
My boys are 17 and 18 but I have done my best to educate them about pop culture that predates them, music, TV and films and if nothing else, I have instilled in them an interest to seek out media of interest to them on their own.
I blame her
Toy making all those action movie references, and Abby having no idea.
Abby definitely needs A SPECIAL SET OF SKILLS if she didn't even know Arnie or what he looked like before this. She needs an action movie marathon. 1 week, 16 hours a day. 😂
was she raised by the Taliban in an Amish underground bunker in Antarctica??
Needed better parents
Producers - "How's 80s do you want this ?"
Arnold - "yes"
I always think of the 80s as just one big action movie arms race. Every movie had to top the last one and it just got silly in the end.
I've always loved it how Commando is both a good action film on it's own, and a good "affectionate parody" of the 80s actions genre. Kinda what My Name is Nobody did for spaghetti westerns.
@@russellh.3150 bingo.
The fact that Abby didn’t recognize Arnold Schwarzenegger made me feel so sad for her and love her even more at the same time. Commando epitomizes so much of what made action movies in the 80s so f’n awesome. This film knows exactly what it is and runs with it.
Commando started out as a screenplay written by Joseph Loeb III. He’s actually one of the most prolific comic book writers of all-time who wrote stories for Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, Captain America, Daredevil, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer to name a few. This explains why Commando has a lot of over-the-top superhero elements embodied by Arnold Schwarzenegger, who by this point had become an action movie super star thanks to his roles in Conan the Barbarian and The Terminator.
To answer Abby’s questions, Arnold Schwarzenegger did have a stunt double, especially for the scenes when Matrix swings across the mall like Tarzan, and when he gets hit by Sully car. When Matrix is dangling Sully over the cliff, you can just barely see the safety wire attached to his leg holding him up. The director, Mark L. Lester, originally wanted Arnold to dangle David Patrick Kelly (Sully) without any technical support. Even though he was incredibly strong, Arnold thought the idea was crazy and refused to do that. Vernon Wells is the Australian actor who played Bennett. Unfortunately he wasn’t as big of a star compared to Schwarzenegger. Before Commando, Wells was best remembered for his role as Wez in Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981).
Yes, Matrix ripped out the seat in Cindy’s car so that he would have room to hide his massive frame while still keeping an eye on where Sully was going. No, the warehouse at 30:01 is owned by President Arius (Dan Hedaya) to supply weapons for his army. Remember, Arius is the Latin American dictator who explains a the beginning that Matrix was responsible for overthrowing him from power. Now he intends on launching a coup to retake power using those weapons to arm his loyalists and mercenaries.
I’m sending all the love in the world for you ladies! As for other great 80s action films, I would definitely recommend the Running Man, Conan, Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Road House, Red Dawn, Big Trouble in Little China, Batman, the Goonies, Willow, Legend, and the original trilogies for Mad Max, Rambo, and Indiana Jones.
🫶🏻
Thanks so much, as always!
I would add "Escape from New York" to your list + "Predator" ..
@@brianjones7907 Thank you, those are great films. I didn’t mention Predator because I know they’ve seen it already, but I realized that Abby hasn’t seen Escape from New York. In fact, if she hasn’t seen it, Abby should definitely watch Robocop as well!
This is the most 80's action film, ever.
With the most 80's dialogue ever:
"F... you, ...hole!"
"F... *_you,_* ...hole!"
The little girl is Alyssa Milano.
The mustache guy was one of the main villains in the classic The Road Warrior staring Mel Gibson.
He also has a great bit part in weird science
I love that electrocuting Bennett just made him angrier. That was a good subverting of expectations.
Juiced him up!
"He turned him into Thomas the Tank Engine"
Holy shit... 😂
Im dead
Mr Lemon would be proud of that Analogue...
This was filmed during the time when Arnold and Sly Stallone were always trying to one-up each other in their films. Commando came out the same year as Rambo (First Blood 2). If you had a kill count of 50 the other would make a movie with a kill count of 55, same for explosions and flexing shots. It was a great time to be watching over-the-top action films.
"I eat green berets for breakfast" was a dig at Rambo because Rambo was a green beret.
I really think Stalones best role was in terminator 2.
And 'Hot Shots 2' took the joke about the kill count to the next level 🙂
@kenpullig1652 ,, Not to mention Who had the biggest Knife ? ...
@@brianjones7907 *insert Crocodile Dundee quote here...*
"Escape From New York" starring Kurt Russell would be a good action movie for Abby, and I think Toy would enjoy it without having to look away very much.
Excellent suggestion! We have a reaction to it here, with Toy and Tori.
plus all the numbers- Escape from NY is classic, and Snake is the hero we need in the real
A film with more continuity errors than bullets fired but still - 80's greatness.
Commando. AKA, ‘80s Action Movie: The Motion Picture.
Bennett, the psycho with the mustache, was in the Road Warrior, where he was a psycho with a Mohawk
And I really enjoy when you guys laugh at the crazy carnage scenes, it's the whole point with these over-the-top action movies
He was also the leader of the motorcycle gang in Weird Science
He'd later play the main villain in a Power Rangers Series.
I wanna say that it was Time Force
Total recall, and the Running Man!
2 great 80s films
+ Predator ..
Abby needs to see Liam Neeson's "SPECIAL SET OF SKILLS."
In robot chicken
In the 1970's there was a sitcom called "The Odd Couple". One character made a joke about classical music composers. As he was leaving his joke went, "As a famous composer once said, I'll be Bach!"
"I'll be back!!" is from yet another Arnold film. "The Terminator!!" He uses it in a few more as well.
As we say in Texas; y'all be safe.
Fun Fact: Arnold's daughter will eventually grow up to become Phoebe on Charmed. And appear in a rather provocative move called "Embrace of the Vampire" and in a show from 1995 called The Outer Limits: Season 1 Episode 16; AND also in the movie "Poison Ivy 2: Lily."
Before playing Phoebe on "Charmed", she played Tony Danza's daughter on "Who's The Boss"
A years before "Commando" came out, I was at a really cool surplus store in Portland, and a kid about 13 or 14 years old asked the owner where the secret room where he kept all the guns was. I guess that was popular urban myth.
😸
This is the QUINTESSENTIAL Arnold movie. Not his best, but the one that is most ARNOLD.
Another fun fact! The final battle is the same filming location of the final showdown in Beverly Hills Cop.
Just FYI, this movie came out months later in the same year as Rambo: First Blood Part II. I read the ending of this movie was rewritten last minute to try to outdo what Stallone did near the end of Ramdo, once the director (I think it was the director) watched the movie, Rambo, in theaters. When Chris Hemsworth talked about his recent action movie, Extraction 2 (both Extraction movies are top-tier action definitely very-well worth seeing), he said the director referenced a lot of Schwarzenegger films. Hemsworth said he told the director, "We gotta do the Arnold Commando shot!".
Thanks for these tidbits! Toy has reactions to both Extraction movies on our Patreon. Those are quite something! 😸
Arnie's "Dory" is Tommy Chong's daughter.
Jumped on to say the same thing. Rae Dawn Chong was one of my crushes in the 80’s. Hard to picture her as the daughter of Tommy Chong.
I'll tell Arnold that you're happy for him, that he's still alive! 👍🏻🤣✌🏼
Yes, "Special set of skills" is must!! Also at this point after Predator and Terminator... Abby could enjoy "The Running Man" 1987.
When words leave y’all’s faces, my day improves
This is the best action movie EVER!
Not by narrative, not even for acting, it's just FUN! From beginning to end lol XD
Abby should watch "Lethal Weapon" starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. Solid mix of action, humor, drama, and character development. ditto for "Die Hard" starring Bruce Willis.
Excellent suggestions. We're planning on having Abby watch Due Hard. We already have two reactions to it for Christmas in July, with Hannah, and then Tori and Toy.
@@RuntotheMovies Yayyy! Sine you're doing Christmas in July, consider "Violent Night" starring David Harbour and John Leguizamo. The film makers said they wanted to do satirical Christmas movie that people who actually like Christmas would enjoy, so it's violent and funny yet genuinely heartwarming. Also, I think it was the "Toy level of bad stuff happening" in that the brutality and grossness are just enough for her to enjoy without stressing her out.
6:18
Abby say that she wants to watch "Soylent Green" (1973)
I thought the same thing.
David Patrick Kelly (Sully) had a wire tied to his ankle when Arnold held him upside down, you can actually see the wire.
48:00 he screamed like a banshee 😂😂
1985 was a crazy great year for movies.
I'm here for the wisecracks.
"Is he still alive?" LOL
Great show! ❤
Hey @martinboyle9163. As always, great to see ya, and thank you so much 😊❤
"Special set of skills"
5:58
Hey, Toy and Abby, the actress who played Arnold's daughter in this movie, is Alyssa Milano
When they were on break from filming this movie, Arnold was pretty protective of her and he would actually help Alyssa with her homework while onset
48:15 "He found the energy" You could write 80's action movies.
Vernon Wells was in Mad Max 2, and Weird Science, both iconic films, and various TV shows, The A Team, Macgyver etc
Robs a weapons store -> Doesnt even get handcuffed by the police...🤣🤣
The 80s.
42:54 “Oh-oh B-be gentle sir.” I’ve never wanted to be a pillow so badly as I do right now. Thank you Toy. 😉
Hahahaha 😂😂😂❤❤❤. Thank YOU sir!
Abbey + Arnold sounds like the perfect movie night👌
"good for arnold still being alive" LOL WE LOVE YOU ABBYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Special Set of Skills has been called!!!!!!!!
Find someone who looks into your eyes the way Toy looks into Arnold's at 6:28 and never let them go. 😍
Lol that was funny 😂. And thank you so much 😊😊❤
Another reactor decided to rationalize Matrix's incredible strength by making it her head canon that Matrix had been part of an experimental program by the Army to recreate Captain America's super soldier serum. I liked that idea.
9:46 we get the first Jeez Louise from Toy. This is gonna be a great reaction!👍🏻 That laugh and smile is the best.
The estate used for the final act is the Harold Lloyd Greenacres estate, which silent film star Harold Lloyd built in the 1920s and lived in until his death in 1971.
17:25 he was the head guy with the hat on who cleaned up John Wick's house after John killed all the hitmen.
It was so much fun hearing about Arnolds and Sly's competition Rambo and Commando action movies
12:09
"Is That Where That's From?"
Actually, Abby, the first time Arnold used that line was in "The Terminator"
The guy who played the role of Sully...i remembered him most when I was a kid in another film enitled, Dreamscape. He co-stars in this sci-fi fantasy with Dennis Quaid. David Patrick Kelly knows how to play the role of a sleazy bad guy. But he's probably best known for his brief taunting scene in The Warriors.
They used squibs in the 80s, blood packets that explode on queue (animal blood).
42:28 No for real! As soon as the Grand Theft Auto series went from 2D to 3D they mimicked the style of movies like this. Right down to the final bosses & weapon pickups lol
Decades later, and I still have yet to figure out why Sully screamed out "OOH-LA-LA!!!", as he fell.
😹
Of all the times I have seen this movie, I have never noticed that the other couple was making a tape! Nice catch.
From what i have read, a sequel was written but Arnold didn't want to do it so the changed the lead actor and a few details and the end result was Bruce Willis in die hard. Win win for movie fan's
Die Hard 2 , "the one at the airport"
This girl went on to be in Charmed! Yes it is a great house, famous silent comedian Harold Lloyd's estate in Beverly Hills, you see it in many movies.
Vernon Welles (the mustachioed villain) was also the bad guy in The Road Warrior.
A special set of skills most definitely! The 80's were the best, except for the cold war and shoulder pads but everything else was great! Another top reaction, thanks.
"Is he still alive?" As someone who was 6/7 when this movie came out, that hurt ME!!!!
The familiar Abby squeak at 43:29 !! 😀
I was supposed to comment on something else as well, but I'm old. Hopefully someone else had the same idea as me and has already written it. 😀
Thanks for uploading! Greetings from Sweden
Now I remember!!! I laughed at how Abbys worst nightmare was to be in a portapotty with a bear outside trying to push it over! But then I thought about it.... What would one really rather do, lie around in other peoples poo, or just give up and have the bear nibble your guts out? It's a tough one!
For more Arnold goodness, check out his earlier movie. Conan the Barberian. His English was a little rough back then, so he didn't talk much. He also didn't wear much either, the strong silent type.😂
Abby my love the full term is acrion/adventure meaning we are going on an exciting adventure full of chases and often explosions while going on a journey with the main character.
The little girl is Alyssa Milano
You two are fantastic 😂 Great reaction. Arnie was THE MAN in the 80s. You have so many great "classics" to look forward 😂 Can't wait to see your reactions.😃
Arnold Schwarzenegger is attached to star in Commando: Retribution, the sequel to 1985's Commando.
The 1980's were also the time of the first 3 Rambo films. ("First Blood" was the first Rambo film from 1982). Very similar battle violence. But the battle scenes in Commando keep reminding me of Charlie Sheen's comedy film spoof of "Rambo II" called, "Hot Shots Part Deux" (1993). I think he was also spoofing Commando as well. All the films are worth checking out. Movies back then rocked! Never a dull moment.
“Special set of skills.”
_New sub+1!_ i recommend you :

🔥 *Depredador 2* (1990)
*_Danny Glover_*_ , Bill Paxton & Gary Busey_
★ *Alien 3* (1992)
Directed by David Fincher
Thank you for the sub and recommendations! I love jingle all the way❤. My favorite Christmas movie 😊❤
An hour and a half of Toy being hot and bothered and Abby trying to make that 'Dory' reference work
It wasn't a big hit, but I thought Arnold was great in "Last Stand" (2013) as a small town sheriff who's town is hit by a heavily armed gang of killers helping a ruthless drug lord flee to the border. besides the shoot 'em up up action, Arnold addresses the fact that he's getting older, and he' backed up by a very likeable cast of supporting characters.
There are plenty of Action Heroes with a "Special set of skills". Besides "Taken", I would also recommend a lot of Jackie Chan movies. Jackie Chan does all his own stunts.
I knew a big guy with a little Austin Healey once, and he really did have to remove the driver's seat and drive from the back seat.
You picked the most 80s best action movie as a FIRST action movie, way to go!
I sometimes play the crazy good soundtrack when I am writing emails
21:52 That is the most random thing she said. :D
Here's the bizarre thing about the two leads in this movie. The actress is Rae Dawn Chung. She helped a waiter, an unknown actor (Chris Pratt) get his first acting job. And years later he ended up marrying Arnold Schwarzenegger's Daughter. Believe it, or Not.
Abby, 80s "Action Films" were all about the body-count. And Arnie always looks good - they didn't need to do anything. Compare this to Rambo II.
You two should react to "Enter the Dragon" (1973) starring Bruce Lee. One of the greatest martial arts movies ever!
What is this movie about? THIS IS THE 80"S!!
In 70s and 80s military surplus stores would buy from military through auctions requiring them to have a contract with DOD. In this manner clandestine operatives or contractors could get whatever supplies were needed then after the mission or operation was over the after-action report would explain what they got and from who, then DOD would reimburse the surplus store for loses with a little extra for hush money. The instructions are attached by a metal wire look for those if new, if refurbished plastic tie strap loop.
You asked if cars really explode like that. You have to remember that cars in the 80's were made out of explodium.
😹
Many dont know this but there is an Bollywood COMMANDO version that has a sequel to it, the action is very cool even though they speak Hindi in the movies and Hindi actor very fit and does much of his own stunts as well. Last time I heard his a defense instructor.
Commando is cool
💯💯💯
the joke about Commando was, entire army shoots at one man & everybody misses ... ; )
Producer's note: we just published Abby and Tori's Star Wars reaction. Remarkably similar. 😸
she is Dawn Rae Chong, Tommy Chong's daughter
50:00 for favorite ringtone
😂😂😂😂😂 lol
You guys favorite Dory, was played by Rae Dawn Chong, and she is the daughter of Tommy Chong, aka Cheech and Chong. Also, I can't believe I've been watching the channel for a few months and never noticed the face tattoo. Looks great. My gf has a back piece her artist won for in tattoo cons. Great reaction you two. Gotta see more Arnold reactions. 80s was a time. We had all sorts of stuff. Late 90s is when movies hit the dark gritty era, like The Crow, and Matrix. We've been in high action/comic era since the MCU started. Dark Knight closed out dark gritty
You say its like a video game and you are not wrong. This movie and Aliens shaped video games.
Arnold is NOT dangling Sully over the cliff. The director wanted him to do that but Arnold was not comfortable doing that. And when Arnold lifts up the phone booth, he actually could do that a real booth but they built one out of balsa wood for the shot.
That big black guy that did all the killing in the opening scenes of the movie is Mac from Arnold Schwarzenegger's Predator movie. Played by Bill Duke. -OG
Abby is such a sweet summer child of innocence 😅
Arnold Schwarzenegger Great movie 🎬 🎞 🎥 🎦 📽
"He was a bodybuilder."
"Really?"
OMG
You should show her the Rambo movies, starting with First Blood.
You two should watch Pumping Iron a documentary from before Arnold was an actor .
Toy, you were being a dirty bird and constantly THIRSTY!! Looking at Arnold like he's a giant pork chop in his speedo. 😆🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 you got me! 😁😁😁❤❤❤
Wish I was arnold 😂
Oh, definitely...SPECIAL SET OF SKILLS!!!
43:23 - The reaction to the sawblade. lmfao!
Betty White! Hahaha love that.
Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in this after Red Sonja and before Raw Deal. More movies of his I recommend for Abby include Conan the Barbarian, The Running Man, Red Heat, Twins, Kindergarten Cop, Total Recall, Last Action Hero, True Lies and Eraser. Sylvester Stallone starred in Rambo: First Blood Part 2 and Rocky IV the same year as this
The Stewardess is Rae Dawn Chong Daugther of Tommy Chong (Cheech and Chong Movies)
