Last night (Dec. 13-14th), we were treated to one of the most spectacular astronomical shows of the year. Not only was the Gemenids the most productive meteor shower so far in 2020 with more than 100 meteors per hour around the peak (we counted!), but we also saw it through a magnificent display of aurora borealis.
We drove to Reinvika, Troms, about 45 minutes north of Tromsø in Arctic Norway. We settled at a small peninsula with clear view at 360 degrees and started shooting right away. We stayed there from 5pm until 4 am, and got amazing stills. However, the real time ones were most spectacular, so here they come! We haven't seen big bolides, but so many bright Geminids regardless!
    Enjoy the show!
All was shot with the Sony a7s and Sigma 20mm f1.4. All post production was made in FCPX. I hope you like the movie as much as I liked shooting and processing it and I thank everyone of you for your support. It kinda humbles you man... makes you feel so small. It’s so peaceful at the same time.. just gorgeous.
Back in July I took a trip to Door County with some buddies. Every night we’d light the fire and sit next to the lake and look at the sky.
Coming from suburban Chicago you hardly see stars. We didn’t see a meteor shower but we did see a shooting star, and the sky was so bright with stars. It’s the most peaceful I’ve ever felt-a quiet night by a warm fire with my good friends, just looking at the night sky, after we’d had a day of wave running, golfing, and fishing.
The next night we got shitfaced. One of the best trips I’ve ever taken.
That’s the stuff life is all about.

Got to see something very similar in Bergen Norway years ago went on holiday from my home country of Australia. There was a purple and pink ✨AURORA✨ in the sky. Over the Fjord Aurora on the banks of Bergen and got to spend a long time watching the Geminids do their thing. Sadly I was unprepared. I was on my way back to my hotel from a hike and didn’t even have my camera with me. My phone battery was almost flat so I got no footage except a few still shots of the ✨AURORA✨ before the meteors came and then my phone died about 15 minutes before the first meteor so I come to CZcams now and then to watch other peoples footage. On a sidenote I went out to the Fjord every night and almost every night the sky was a different colour from green to blue to purple to orange to red to rainbow colours to dual colours. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. Since that trip many many many years ago I have since been to Bergen Norway 17 times just for the view but mostly just a visit, my best friend
