They are super difficult to hand raise. They are super needy for months. We have over 50 that roam our farm and a chicks mother died so we had to hand raise it. They are a handful.
Thank you sooo sooo sooo very much for doing this video! I absolutely adore peafowl thank you this made my day! I luv them sooo much! Their gorgeous! I've always wanted to raise my own! Your awesome girly!
Crazy, they stopped jumping on your shoulder like they just knew they were too big / they grew out of their puppy stage. My pup did this too, and I often think about the reasons why, or how she knew to stop! 😢😢
I’m currently considering getting peacocks myself although I probably can’t let them free range due to both two and four legged predators. A local atv trail passes through my farm and closing it would cause problems with the community. I’ll be building a couple large bird runs for peafowl and/or golden pheasants. Depending on how the local reception goes, I may allow some peafowl to free range.
Someone found a list white peacock...I helped to try to catch but dark, windy and freezing. We sat on blankets w a mating call loop. I climbed tree, grabbed one leg but flew to ground.... SO..left cage covered w 2 blankets and tarp. Left sunflower seed, peanuts, apple, trail mix, cat pate and cat dry pellets. Will try again tomorrow. Temps dropping to 25 F degree. How low of a temp can they healthily tolerate? The whole town is worried.
It's winter, a mating call won't have any interest to them. If you grab a leg, don't let go. They will go limp if you can get them upside down. But with food it should be ok in that temperature. Corn is a good option when it's cold.
You mentioned in the beginning being worried about one of the peachicks because his wings were droopy. Since their wing feathers grow so quickly as chicks, sometimes their muscles haven't yet caught up so they will hold their wings down from all the weight. I have some hand raised peacocks as well. :)
They are not the largest flying bird, wandering albatross are absolutely massive and some of the eagles are also especially large. Many birds are larger. The wing span of the wandering albatross is also wider than a peafowl with its train is long if you want to include their feathers in the side.
Ty for this video. I read an article online that peafowl are only as bright as a turkey is. Thank you for clearing that up. And I am a a new peafowl owner I have a male and two females. 7 weeks old. I was looking for guidance on taming them. Ty for this information. I was also told by someone on Facebook that you shouldn't tame because they will become aggressive. But you seem to clear that up too. And I also was wanting to know if they would run away and not return home too. Ty for that information as well.
Omg so cute I love your channel it's so cool when you talk about animals we really get good facts and the pros and cons of owning animals you learnt me to feed my rabbit's more veggies then rabbit pellets they only get a teaspoon of rabbit pellets each day thank you 😊😊😊💜💛💚💙
Your peacocks are lovely! I’m wondering if you have any tips for keeping females around? We have had trouble keeping specifically the females from disappearing . I’m thinking that they may be going to find better nesting areas and being attacked by something. Do you have any tips for providing better nesting places? Or just keeping them safe without penning them in completely. The few times we did have chicks born we had to keep the females in so they would nest inside
This video made me remember my childhood. There’s a water park that has a zoo near my hometown in Mexico and there’s peafowl roaming everywhere in the park. Btw do get to feed all that hay to the livestock animals and other small pets before it decomposes?
Thank you. I'm glad I can share my animals with you so that you can still enjoy them. You should ask if you can volunteer at a shelter so that you can spend time with animals. And I'm sure one day you will be able to have your own pets. ❤
We have four peacocks... they are such curious animals, we have 1 male - elvis and 1 female - Delilah. They have two babies but they are too young to know what gender they are x
Hey I was looking into parakeets but I’m not sure about anything I have been trying to do my research but there is not a lot of them. I was wondering if you could do an updated parakeet/budgie guide. Love your videos you are such an inspiration to me keep up the good work!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
do you breed and sell any peacocks we are first timers and doing research now to see how care for them. they will be a Christmas present we want one male and one female
Can chicks be raised without their mother. My friend had 5 eggs and put them under a hen to hatch but after all 5 died whilst growing up.i think it was the crest growing from the forehead they don't grow out because I've heard only the mother can pluck them and the hen doesn't know this. Can u give me some advice
That's the first time I've heard that! Chickens can definitely raise peafowl up to a certain age. But chickens usually only care for chicks for up to 8 weeks before weaning them. Peafowl care for their young for 10 to 12 months. So once the chicken feels the peachicks are big enough to wean, they will still need heat and some nurturing provided. But this has absolutely nothing to do with feathers.
@@HappyTailsAnimals thanks for this. I taut it had nothing to do with that. He now has some more newly hatched eggs hatched in the same way and I've reassured him it won't have anything to do with that and to look after them with great care. Thanks again
Can you find peafowls in the wild? I was staying at our friends cabin in TN in an area that’s very touristy... and we went outside one morning and a peacock was wandering around on the driveway
There are a few flocks that have naturalized in the wild in Massachusetts. They’re a LOT hardier than people think. A little outside of Boston I ran into a male that was adopted into a flock of turkeys-the locals were torn between loving him and hating his calls/mess.
They looks great. I have a quick question for you.. There are some peacocks where I live here too. I''m a content creator and I want to record them during their dance (opens the wings) Is there any way that helps them they dance so I can record it? Thank you..
Hi Meghan....would you recommend chicken or quail for hedgehogs which ones do yours prefer..I have watched ur hedgehog video but I’m just wondering if they prefer or love chicken or quail better and would u recommend cooked or raw for a hedgehogs first time having it or cooked or raw as a long term thing..❤️
So wait, do you have to build an aviary or can they just be entirely free roam? I have 4 acres and plan to get 4 peafoul. 1 acre is heavily oaked. Do you think this is enough room? (for when they potentially mate) Thanks! 🤍🦚
Sounds like a wonderful place for peafowl. They will not stay on 4 acres so your neighbors would have to be ok with having peafowl, many people do like them. You need to keep them in a pen for 1 year, longer if they are babies, and then you can let them be free range.
That's a glamorous pet. Ever.
haitang I like your kitty cat in the front

I had no idea peacocks could be affectionate!
My pet peacock used to give me kisses. I miss that bird.
You can find many homes in rural India that have pet peacocks. They are very affectionate.
Beautiful birds. I love peafowl
I would really love be to see a video on like how much you make and spend on your ‘zoo’😂Also greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
Their crowns make them even prettier
Wow you have so many animals!
It must be so fun!!
I had a peacock once, he died sadly from eating cat litter.
But recently we got two baby peacocks. : ) but i dont think they can replace him
Bro cmon cat liter. Rookie mistake, you could’ve saved the peacocks life :(
@@sw3tfilth207 I’m not sure but I’m guessing they didn’t intentionally feed the cat litter to their peacock. 🤷🏽♀️
how are the two babies doing now?
Thanks for the info. Love Peacocks and may raise them.

These birds are abundant in Arcadia and East Pasadena. Like they are literally everywhere and they screech bloody murder.

The largest flying bird by size is wandering albatross and by weight is kori bustard
What kind of food to give peacock.. My peacock breakfast with bread and mixed grain and pelets then afternoon mixed vegetables with grapes
I like peacocks
In my colony where I live there are more than 200 peacocks so , peacocks are common here
Peafowl are my favorite bird, did you know that the peacock, only the males, are the bird of India? Keep up the awesome work

Those are very colorful turkeys
Thank you very much for this video. Question: do peahen also make the famous loud peacock sound?
Peahens can yell just as loud as males, but usually less often. Both sexes pretty quiet in fall and winter.
I really want to get a pet peacock!!!

Hay actually lasts for a couple of years. But our hay wont last a full year in the barn before we use it.
Would you recommend an aviary for them to sleep in and live when there not free ranging
My peacock attacks
How do your free range peacocks do in the winter ? Do they survive? One showed up at my house with an HOA and I can’t build a covering. He is wild.
you are my idol I love how we both connect I love animals to but sadly I can't have any my parents say even tho I am responsible enough

I would like to know how far can they fly
I love your videos.
How do they react to dogs in the yard? If dogs are nice, not aggressive.
Hiii, Are peacocks hardy creature. Can they live in cool winter season freely without covering their cages. Can they bare cool weather easily.
Good job on your video, you kept it interesting

My favorite animal is peacocks. How do peafowl fly? From Benjamin Parx.
Is 20 acres enough space to free range a pair of peafowl?
Where are you located, like to visit your farm once. I am from north Carolina
You have such beautiful big birds. Can they survive the cold mountain climates but warm summers?

Peafowl are from India. What you saw is someone's bird.
There are a few flocks that have naturalized in the wild in Massachusetts. They’re a LOT hardier than people think. A little outside of Boston I ran into a male that was adopted into a flock of turkeys-the locals were torn between loving him and hating his calls/mess.
Wow mam.I m from India and lovvvvvv peacocks. But we can't domesticate them in India,as per my knowledge.

So once you are feeding them they just stick around? Do you have to shelter them in the winter?
Is 10 acres too little land for peacocks to free range in?
Hi Meghan....would you recommend chicken or quail for hedgehogs which ones do yours prefer..I have watched ur hedgehog video but I’m just wondering if they prefer or love chicken or quail better and would u recommend cooked or raw for a hedgehogs first time having it or cooked or raw as a long term thing..❤️

I know somebody who has 3 in a small pen big enough to turn around in .Sad.
How do you take your animals to the vet
Usually vet comes to us.
Are they related to turkeys?

Did you miss it

Could you raise one peacock with a group of guineas from eggs?
You said peafowl is the largest flying bird in the world? That’s not correct
