    I'm gonna say something that might sound weird:
    Meganium is actually legitimately pretty good and you probobly shouldn't have skipped it.
    Meganium is a tanky Leech Seeder. Leech Seed is a brilliant move in Pokerogue; particularly against two of the biggest lategame threats [one of which will happily switch in on Leech Seed all day]. Boss HP bars don't stop Leech Seed as it is a fixed percentage of damage; and the final boss has massive HP.
    Meganium also gets Giga Drain to keep itself healthy; Screens to support the team [even in a bad matchup Meg can throw out a screen and die]; Body Slam for Paralysis and some basic coverage [Unlike Venusaur who gets recoil moves]; Synthesis to help stall things out...
    I caught a Meganium in my 2nd Classic win [Well; a Bayleef] and it was surprisingly great. Oh; and Chikorita gets Razor Leaf stupidly early so has a pretty good earlygame too. This wasn't even as a starter; it was a catch.
    And unlike Venusaur; Meganium dosen't need to find Mega or Gigantmax to reach it's potential. This is also with no egg moves and no passive.
    Grass-types are a lot better when you can just click the water biomes. There's a lot of Water and Ground based biomes in this game, letting Grass-types avoid their weaknesses and rampage.
    Also; good for mentioning Delphox. It's the only Psychic starter which is good against the Final Noodle, and it gets utility like Will-O-Wisp; Screens...
    And with Egg Moves; it's fast Skeledirge; because it gets Torch Song! With it's buffs; Delphox has a serious case for being the best Fire starter. Item stealing; Torch Song; fast; Psychic typing for the Noodle; utility...

      @iWantOreoz Před měsícem +4

      I feel like the biggest reason why people overlook Meganium so much is because of its pretty bad offensive, which you wouldn’t expect from a starter. But once you get past that, Meganium has some great roles to play, mostly in a game like this where health is a limited ressource

    With the new passive updates, Tinkatink lost Huge Power for Steelworker (sadge) so less overall useful, especially if you manage to get Zacian, but the big winner is GIMMEGHOUL. Dude gets Contrary as a Passive so you're immune to all Status and stat lowering moves, AND Make It Rain is basically a Spread Steel Torch Song, with higher power and Pay Day's effect. Absolutely amazing and a solid hypercarry.

    Like you said, hard to depend on egg moves, but my favorite starter has been Magnemite! The Parabolic Charge egg move is crazy good and steamrolls through Classic mode. I've had many runs where I pair it with a ground type (Clodsire, Excadrill, Mudsdale, Flygon, all good) and constantly sustain with the healing from the move. It has gotten even better with the most recent update where Magnemite's passive ability changed to Levitate, allowing you to use Earthquake freely as well.

    A honorable mention i'd like to make is excadrill from gen 5. Kinda weak in the early game but once you get good moves (which he learns, so you dont even have to rely on TM's, even tho iron head is nice to get, but not needed).
    Stats are rly decent, good typing, can mostly take a hit and set up for a sweep with swords dance. Rly good dmg if you get that swords dance. Earthquake/drill run/dig for eternatus to hit his weakness. Carried multiple off my endless runs. Just watch out for heavy super effective attacks like fire blast or hydro pump

    I have to advocate for Butterfree and Aggron as well.
    Butterfree with a speed nature out speeds many things and compound eyes sleep powder is great for switch ins or catching mons. Furthermore they have a busted ground type egg move that hits both opponents and burns. Passive Magician is ridiculously good especially if you can fish for steals on a sleeping mon. Finally Buttpree also can get tm Hurricane with compound eyes and has a GMax form
    As fory main man Aggron, he pops off hard with egg moves: Salt Cure, Shore Up, Body Press, Head Smash with Rock Head. Rock and Steel has downsides, but it also hard counters Rayquaza and Eternatus. He can learn Stealth rock from a tm (if you have room for it) and his Mega is an unkillable tank; just sit on Salt cure and even sandstorm damage.
    Bonus is that Buttpree is merely 1 point and Aggron is a fair 3 and a solid carry early game.

    poplio is imo the best starter in the game, getting access to bouncy bubble AND torch song at level five is beyond cracked, the only downside is how slow he is. but i havent lost a run with it on my team (mainly due to garganacl), the rival is laughably easy no matter the starter she has.

    Great video! I actually disagree with the Blaziken part, especially for someone just starting out. While its mega is great, you aren't guaranteed to get it. This means that your stuck with a relatively frail and slow pokemon that has terrible matchups into the final 2 bosses. Additionally, it a terrible levelup learnset. It's very good when you unlock everything on it, but when you're just starting the game, I'd say its one of the worst starters to pick.

    Some advice i can give as one of the devs of pokerogue is venusaur is a fan favorite for many runs as a starter is simply because of a bulky grass/poison typing along with leech seed poison powder sleep/powder synthesis and strong grass moves. Charmander is only really good in this mode mainly due its egg moves being bitter blade which is a fire giga drain, oblivion wing which is yveltals legendary move and epower being a strong ground type move to deal with electric mons and dragon dance to set up the big downside to starting with charmander early without egg moves is because the water area being very early most of the time. Swamper is amazing due to its ground water typing and its egg moves have shore up and bulk up being extremely viable in setup along with the passive drizzle and its main ability u start off with torrent. Id never really recommend serperior in pokerogue mainly due to the fact that no one wants to take the time to train up a grass starter with no secondary typing like a bulbasaur or a torterra but it does get multi scale flame thrower and make it rain with clanging scales as egg moves so those can easily make up the difference but it isnt really a mon u want to start with until u get him setup fully after opening a ton of eggs. Currently the best mon in the pokerogue classic format of only starters of each gen is fuecoco mainly because of torch song on its skeledurge evo aswell as shadow ball willo wisp and hex incinerate being level up moves and incinerate is useful since it hits both targets in double battles which were just boosted to happen more often and they also can be champion double battles. Its egg moves make it so much better with the passive punk rock and the moves slack off overdrive and alluring voice instantly making it have the moveset of a fairy toxtricity with slack off healing and fire ghost typing and overdrive will help with water flying alluring with dragon dark types for the most part and shadow ball for psychic ghost types and torch song for grass bug types and on top of that it raises its spatk every hit not even needing a kill making fuecoco the best mon to start with even without egg moves or a passive ability.

    • @roguethedemon9735
      @roguethedemon9735 Před měsícem

      best non starter choices as of right now is egg move abra and nacli easily being both that kadabra is a very early on evolution and a link cable can show up very fast as its only great ball rarity to get alakazam and it having a mega option aswell and nacli being salt cure recover for the final boss and it being able to eat most of the final bosses attacks and it will have sturdy or purifying salt making it either immune to 1 hit KO's or status effects and ruins ghost type moves and salt cure dosent stop until the mon is switched out and its also very useful on rayquaza since it will always take an entire bar down excluding the initial damage it does and on top of that stealth rock set up for the rayquaza and a natural learning earthquake and the ability to have to have toxic curse body press diamond storm egg moves with solid rock passive makes it that much better.

      tinkaton aswell countering 1st half of boss fight with fake out and gigaton hammer and zigzagoon/meowth being early mons to catch in town that can have pickup or meowth which technicican but u have to pause the evo on meowth if its pickup since it loses it and changes to limber on meowth but zigzagoon dosent need to but meowth has fake out which can really help in double battles next to a sweeper mon like fuecoco.

      A good rule of thumb in the meantime would be legendaries or anything that has good type coverage. Since the biggest concern is usually Mega Rayquaza, you could try something that can setup well and has a good ice move. Basically anything that gets Dragon Dance or Shell Smash is decent.
