  • Hey guys, new guest on the channel this week : Clément Trimouille. He's my partner in crime in Paris and we often decide to nerd about archtops, pickups, strings etc. He's the guitar player in the Zoot Collectif, a jazz band in Paris with many other friends, playing all sorts of Jazz.
Clement decided to play this cool standard from 1954 called A Sleepin' Bee (Harold Arlen). He's playing a 1934 D'Angelico Snakehead (with Ernie Ball nickel strings round wound gauge 12) and i'm playing a 1934 Gibson L-10 (i'm using a Dunlop .71mm pick and the guitar is strung with Martin Bronze 80-20 gauge 13-56). The sound is captured by both a Neumann TLM 103 and a Bluebird microphone.
Feel free to support the channel if you want/can : www.paypal.me/acousticstandards
I've decided to take a couple of student for online classes so hit me up if you're interested. Contact and info : acousticstandardsinparis@gmail.com
I haven't recorded albums in the style of those acoustic standards, but i have 2 albums on bandcamp with my Django tribute Quartet : romainvuilleminquartet.bandca...
The third one "Three sides of a Coin" is just out, so don't hesitate to drop me an email if you'd like a physical copy, i can ship worldwide !!
I may be considering recording a physical album with these acoustic standards as some of you have asked for it, but as printing cds is being a bigger quest year after year, please drop me a message if you think it's a good idea or if you'd like to preorder one or give suggestions etc.
I also have a youtube channel for the Django stuff with my 4tet : / @romainvuillemin
Please share, subscribe and keep swinging !

My ears are favoring the D'Angelo for rhythm and Gibson for solos.

Man! I love D'A Snakeheads. Maybe yours and mine can get together someday.

When you're strumming chords, you're doing it above the fretboard. I was wondering if that can wear out the fretboard if the pick is too heavy or if you've adapted your technique to not hit the fretboard with the pick? I just recently got an archtop and it's entirely different from an electric guitar, so I'm still working on figuring out how to get the best sound out of it.

no i don't think my pick hits the fretboard, only the strings i guess. The sweet spot of these acoustic archtops is near where the fretboard ends

Wow lots of upstrokes from Clement in his intro? I'm not sure fighting gravity improves tone? Beautiful playing all round nevertheless cheers!

We have different techniques indeed, i guess it s because he mainly plays plugged in
