I remember the 'old guys' at shops in the 90s with kit bashed GSC armies when there were scant to no models for them, so along with a really nice conversion and paint as always--this IG conversion is a bit nostalgic for me as well. Cheers from an old guy!
A Tau genestealer cult would be cool, or maybe a space marine chapter converted to the great devourer

wow your idea for this cult is really cool! ofc it makes sense if a hivefleet travels through the galaxy, they cause Cult uprisings on many worlds in their wake. But if the hive fleet is destroyed, there are still several dozen planets or even systems who have to deal with the chaos of cult rebellion. I definetly have to keep that in mind for my cult-astra militarum army^^
i was thinking a warp storm might be what stops them, didnt even consider the fleet itself being destroyed

I would easily watch a full day's worth of your painting models. You explain everything with the same level of expertise you paint your models.
One thing I would love to see you kitbash is some Dark Mechanicum. I think there is a lot of room for some really creative combinations to make a fully chaos corrupted tech priest.

have you though about using the new kit to build a catachan?
Have you considered some sort of Gaunt's ghosts themed conversion?
I'd really like to see some of the older custom warband/chapter conversion, I can even provide the idea, about a custom chapter master whose body is phobos jump pack (like shrike) with warptalon lightning claws. the chapter is largely sons of Corax though the chaptermaster is a loyalist Night Lords and likes to keep his heraldry with a helmet.

a army idea I have is like, imagine a penal world own by the Mechanicus who would turn every prisoner into a combat servitor until enough servitors with botched lobotomies who kept their sentience were just around for them to revolt and kill there techiest overlords and take control of the planet for themselves. Since this was a penal world the greater imperium didn’t really care or notice and would keep sending prisoners to the land of eerily silent yet well-maintained facilities and workhouses. the army itself would rather be Genestealer Cults or Mechanicus gameplay-wise and is the servitor revolutionary army come to bring hell to whoever is attempting to halt their hard-earned peace. I know this kinda brakes the lore for why servitors exist but stranger things have happened.
There's definitely something about the command squad that makes just excellent Genestealer Cultists... I made my set into them too 🥰

Hey Pete, have you thought about trying Nivea Creme instead of Vaseline for lubricating your tools? It has all the benefits of normal Vaseline and removes the need to clean it up afterwards!
I'd suggest trying matt varnish earlier in the paining process. If you paint the cloth and then matt varnish you can create a variety of finishes across the model. This will create a lot more visual interest than a totally matt model. Especially as you're currently matt varnishing over metallics which totally ruins their metallic effect.
Watching this made me think about my 1000 points of unpainted genestealer cults…. God damn it.

I've mixed Skitarii and Wracks bits for my Dark mech to great effect.
Dark eldar and Necrons bits are great sources of Dark mech stuff in general!

When you did the Glistening Gums glaze on the head, it seemed like a large amount flowed onto the face with a few bubbles forming too.
As a newbie, did it wick some of this away or was leaving it that thick fine because the detail wouldn't be lost once the liquid dried?
