  • As part of on-going research by the National Monuments Service and the Office of Public Works at the Brú na Bóinne UNESCO World Heritage Property, Archaeoastonomer Dr Frank Prendergast was commissioned to produce a new customised landscape model showing the sky from Newgrange. This model can be installed in Stellarium, a free software programme that allows anyone to use their home computer as a virtual planetarium. Once the model is installed users can visit the Boyne Valley virtually and recreate the sky above the Great Mound of Newgrange at any time day or night - on any date of interest - be it 2021 AD or 2000 BC.
For more on Newgrange Skyscape in Stellarium please see: arrow.tudublin.ie/arastart/12/
Please note this programme is not suitable for use on a mobile phone.

Don't forget to set date in Stellarium to closer to January 13 for Winter Solstice circa 3200 BC (due to calendrical drift).
