What I thought where I had the most confidence was actually at a beach! Not at the sand but actually at the ocean. I basically go to the waves where it hits me about knees deep. Obviously this makes it physically harder, but mentally I knew that if i flipped myself the water will catch my head. I knew that the backflip wasn't as hard physically then mentally so I was willing to trade the more physically and make it easier mentally. When I tried it the first time, I just couldn't commit mid jump so I basically did an awkward landing where my body rotated sideways mid air and the water completely caught me. Right after I felt that the water was 100% going to protect me, I felt all this confidence and tried it the second time. I got it down, but the landing was something I needed to work on, so i kept trying and eventually got it perfect. What I did to progress the backflip was I got closer to land and less on water, so eventually I went only maybe about shins deep and I was able to do the backflip much easier. This is just my way of doing the backflip and for those who have the beach near them! Hope this helps.
He's a good guy. he has to preface so much cause there's so many ass holes out there who say "that's not how ur suppose to do it man." far to many keyboard warriors or egos out there. if it works for you do it. and encouraging others comes first in good people cause so many people don't. form can be added in. so cheers to a good tutorial and teaching/attitude/encouraging.
I can GUARANTEE that I won't land on my neck. What scares me is landing on my knees or toes. I'm probably going to use my sleeping bag for the landing, but I'm waiting until I attempt my 2nd ever double backflip tomorrow on my trampoline. Wish me luck! :D
Dude i wanna say thanks, and i also wanna say that you are freaked hilarious! you kept me interested the whole time and idk why you don't have like a million subs. but thanks again. you just earned yourself a subscriber!
I used to have the fear of doing a front flip and my mind kept preventing me from doing until I went to the beach, the sand was soft and the fall doesn't hurt as bad as a wooden or concrete floor, after I did it on the sand a couple of times and didn't have the fear afterwards, I started doing it on grass then the wooden floor, then the concrete floor, I got more and more confidence over time and now, I can do it easily. Just find a place where u know u wont feel as much pain as other places and just do it (Nike)
Thank you. I've been doing backflips nonstop for 3 months now after watching your videos countless times. You have the coolest backflip of all. Thank you again. Billy
I started with the back handspring first and while you don't have to get them down properly,it still helps to have some mastery over that because once you're doing them, the fear that prevents you from trying backflips should already be long gone. A back handspring is also far easier to do than an actual backflip and once you're comfortable with the back handspring the transition to backflips are far easier. The only difference with the backflip from the back handspring is learning to jump higher and make sure you spin quicker by kicking your knees up towards your head. This still took me a little while to develop the speed in the spinning motion of the flip for a little while before I landed my first one without my hands touching the ground, but once I started to get the hang of it on flat ground I only kept getting better afterward until I had it down.
Thank-you so much for this video, this is by far the most helpful backflip tutorial video I have seen on youtube. Honestly, even if I fail I still feel greatly motivated to overcome this fear.
Thank you for this video. I've wanted to be able to do a backflip for such a long time but was too scared. I watched other videos and they didn't really help but this one helped me make some progress. Much love!
i still can't do a complete backflip, but slowly trying to do a back handspring has really helped me get over the fear of flipping straight backwards, so thank you
thanks for this video! it helped a lot! You've also inspired me to to make a Backflip fear video that I uploaded today! Thanks Lucas and keep up the awesome work!
Hey Dude just want to say thanks for the advice in this video, after watching it I felt motivated and focused and I made it to my local gymnasium and nearly land a round to back summi after a bit of practice...I've only been doing this stuff since last November and I'm 36 this August 😉
This guy gave some pretty good pointers ... When I lernt how to back flip on a trampaline I started off with picking a side to flip to and I did that a few times and in less than 5 minutes I was able to do it... I really want to learn how to do it off a wall and flat ground now... And again thanks for the video it helped alot :)
I’m going to try this. I’ll record my progress also I already learned to do the macaco. 1st Day: Macaco Learned 2nd Day: Overcame trying to flip backwards with 2 spotters on each side for support, but still haven’t got the technique to actually flip backwards. 3rd Day: Unfortunately This User Is No Longer Using This Account Due To An Incident.
Yeap, you can see when and how you are going to land in a backflip because you see the ground before you land on it, if you don't count with the backflip fear frontflip is the hardest.
Thanks man!! I noticed that using the repotition technique helped me preform most of the moves that involves no-contact-with-the-floor flips and general flips. For example the aerial... Practice the cart wheel over and over until ur comfortable with one hand... Then keep doing it till you are sure that u have air time.. (You get the idea) Well anyway thanks for ur advice.
Well, you're still flipping over yourself, therefore it is not inaccurate. It's just like a back full, when people call it a backflip 360, technically it is still a backflip with a 360 degree twist, so that is also not inaccurate.
you helped me do everything starting off with the stretches the backwards round off's and then BOOM 10 atempts then i did it of course you dont get the tucking techniece on your first backflip

Lol wood chips? That's like doing that over hot coals
He might have chose that to make him not want to land on his head.
666 Horsepower well it's pretty soft to land on on your feet
Just gotta “..do you man...girl....woman..”
666 Horsepower that’s a bit extreme
I think he means the ones you find at a playground
which is harder, a front flip or a back flip?
Back flip
Front flip you need a bunch of force but the back flip is scaryerq
Typo
Yeap, you can see when and how you are going to land in a backflip because you see the ground before you land on it, if you don't count with the backflip fear frontflip is the hardest.
***** I just need to say i learned to actually do it!!! :D it's on a trampoline but that was what i was going for, i'm so happy! :D

Omg!!! Thank you, you really helped me get iver my fest of doing backflips.
one of my pet peeves is when people call a back tuck a back flip
but the real name is back tuck
well that id if you do it from standing it is a back tuck if it it is from another skill like round off back tuck and I should know I am a gymnast
So you can call it both it doesn't matter... I think.
Well, you're still flipping over yourself, therefore it is not inaccurate.
It's just like a back full, when people call it a backflip 360, technically it is still a backflip with a 360 degree twist, so that is also not inaccurate.
it sounds like u have nothing better to do with your time
