Ben's ability to put into words what takes numerous years of riding experience to learn is amazing. Great video.
He got an eye for all the small details. There are a lot of technique videos but they only show a fraction of the important things. Really enjoyable to watch
@@jordy5625 these are so much better than a certain big networks videos!
Is it just me, or is Ben cathro just the best. Every time I watch him I feel connected to his personality and feel like a friend. Keep up the amazing work buddy 🤙🏻
Stopping comfort braking is probably my biggest current challenge to progression
Same!! Good luck to you
Same
This is the big one. When you get over comfort braking, you will become much more fluid and ironically you feel more in control. Scan along way ahead to quickly identify those sections you can charge. The question I started to ask myself was "can my bike deal with this next section"? That really helped me. Once your experience gets to the point that your forward trail scanning knows what your bike can deal with, you get the courage to get off the brakes and ride the section
@@oliverbourne9599 yeah its really ironic, the faster you go the easier it gets
Same here, always struggling with comfort braking and loose of control due to this. Will set up targets on some home trail sections to try improving on this. Thanks for the how to series... 👍🏻 I appreciate this series and can highly recommend it. It's even enjoyable watching it a 2nd or 3rd time, which is quite rare on YT these days 😅
As soon as I heard about this "how to bike series" knowing cathros humor I thought it was gonna be all jokes but I'm actually learning alot from this series and I've been applying it to my racing/riding and I feel like I'm actually getting better and faster
It's damn near impossible to find CZcams videos with such universally positive comments. Cheers to Mr. Cathro and the commenters. Brings a tear to my eye.
Another 15 mins of pure gold. Everything you need to know, forget the rest.
Set your bike up right, learn how to to learn, then learn pumping turning popping stopping. Job done✔
Thanks Ben
Been implementing the things talked about in the videos to my riding. All I can say is that it's really helping shape my riding. Thank you
Just let this man make all the content.
Wait... so I shouldn't just lock up my front brake every single time I need to slow down??
You should…and embrace the pain 😁
You totally should! Don't forget to keep your chest over bars too.
You should absolutely lock up the front brake to slow down, but only when you’re riding backwards! The Dyslex’Braking Technique is rarely used, and was banned by the Enduro World Series during competition!
I mean.....
That's what I got out of it...
Love the red light, green light example! It shows how dynamic you have to be on the brakes.
The fact that I've raced worlds @ val Di sole this year and I still learn bit by bit more from Ben
Who needs the PMBIA when you’ve got Ben Cathro?? Such a great series.
Well, what often happens (to me at least) is I watch a "how to" video, say to myself "I'll definitely spend some time practicing that next time I'm on the trails!" and then completely forgot about that and just ride... Riding with a coach forces you to actually practice. But yeah, hands down the best "how to bike" series ever!
He’s got it pretty much dialled eh. Couple of tweaks would top it off but this is by far the best series out there. Such great content. Without the PMBIA I’d be out of a job 🙈😂😜
great video. reminds me of motocross. brake hard and late, get off brakes and then rail the corner. so much work I put in on that technique.
yes just like a moto just way lighter and you power it, you will find so many moto riders ride mountain bikes and truly shred. the physics are the same.
That's the video that we all need actually ! Thanks Ben !
Great video as always:) BOSS position = neutral position
The q I still have is 1) what to do if your just coming in too hot and have to continue breaking into the corner and 2) when to shift weight, if your meant to be back on breaking but forward for aggressive turning, and breaking late ?
Love this video from Ben. This is my first time hearing the term “comfort braking” and it really helps cement in my brain the “you don’t need that” type of stuff I do way too much. Can’t wait to practice some of these ideas.
Me too. I try to keep the pointers in mind when I'm riding, then I feel myself flying way too fast and I can't remember if I need to be high up or lower down on my bike..then I just hop off. Can't wait till I get to the comfort breaking point.
Another great vid, Mr. Cathrovision!
Would love to see more videos of fast riders with a kind of brake indicator like you did with the On/Off graphics. Maybe some kind of switch or sensor connected to the brake lever with a brake-light mounted on the bike/rider.
Overlaying that vector going above the tire was a clutch explanation!
I just got back into off road riding two weeks ago and already felt some bad habits starting.
Just watching this video has already made me correct these things, now I just need to practice them and make sure I don't leave the balls at home. Being somewhat fearless for just a moment is all you need to correct a bad habit. Cheers mate
Moved to Queenstown NZ a few years ago and been thinking of getting a bike (shame not to with the bike park 5 minute walk from my house). Your series just put the nail in the coffin mate! So keen to get practicing on all your tips!
I find that during panic breaking I end up braking too hard, and end up over the front bars. This video has been helpful. I raced BMx way back in the 1980’s. We didn’t have front brakes, so this whole mountain biking thing in my 50’s is difficult. I’ve gone over the front bars, as the shock compressed way too many times
He got an eye for all the small details. There are a lot of technique videos but they only show a fraction of the important things. Really enjoyable to watch
Very late to these videos but as a newbie these have been HUGE for learning so many basic concepts I didn't know about. So many little tidbits that seem so obvious but you don't know what you don't know. Thanks a ton for putting these vids together. 🤙
This series of video is amazing. Braking is exactly my top topic currently as I always feel that i am either braking too hard or not enough... it is a lot of practice to nail the perfect one ! Any tip ?
For me it helped to session a single corner very often until feeling that the limit of traction is reached. Cheers mate
@@robxin6807great idea 🙏 thanks two years later 😂

Omg this is so insightful and I can't wait to try out your teaching! Thanks Ben!!
Another amazing video Professor Cathro!!! About time someone came along with some good advice!! Im ready for a wheelie and nose manual video!!!!
Great info that I wish I had before I started thanks
Big thanks from Hood River, Oregon( biiiitchin riding) !! Been watchin instructional vids on turning and braking from whom ever puts them out. A big help ! Recently have been reconnoitering a considerable labyrinth of dirtbike trails in the local offroad area - Post Canyon, puttin a perpetual Mona Lisa smile on my face !! Steep, loose, chunky descents. And getting lots of chance to use proper body positioning in turns and forcing myself to let off the brakes in turns and over obstacles and brake before. Your vid is clear and easy to ingest and helped alot !! Got a good example of not braking like I could have comin down a REALLY steep dirt bike section -65+ degrees - called Impossibles. It is pure dirt and when it's damp and not dug up from dirt bikers rallying up it .. it is a real kick !! Drops a good 100 ft so braking is imperative. Garth Hardin on youtube - "2021-7-7 Impossibles KO Krash !!!" Ride Jump or Wither !!
just subscribed one of the most helpful vids ever, thanks
Best MTB instruction on CZcams !!!
Thanks you for making wonderfull videos that I can watch in free time
Ben is freaking so good at teaching. This should win an Emmy
Ben, your vids are the best! Way better than any other YT biking vids!
Your experience with MTB drills are VIABLE.
Nicely done!

These videos are so great! I've learned a lot... now I just need to trust what I've learned on the trails.
Watching the second time it seems all so logical. Really enjoying this series! Thank you.
