Gosh I wish there were a Core version with just the rest of the instruments (contras, solo strings...) but still leave out the mic positions. I think the size of the Pro version will turn a lot of people off who don't have all the RAM available. I think Core is perfect I just really wish there were Bass Clarinet, and the Solo Strings at least. That to me would really put it up a step to be the best library for the size!

I’m really trying to keep a tight budget, and you all graciously gifted me Discover, thank you! I was sure I’d just run with that for now. Then I heard the samples in my headphones... and then I saw I had the $49 deducted from core, even though you gifted it! Wow. Who does that?? I think you can guess the outcome: $300 charge on my Visa card now, lol. Pro eventually but Core is SO WORTH IT. That’s chump change for a full integrated orchestral library of a real orchestra. I get it now. Game changer.

Got my copy of Core the day it came out and I still can't believe how good it sounds and how much value for the money you get. BTW when I use the multiple instances template (cubase) from the spitfire page I can work my way around the problem with not being able to unload articulations, as each track comes (probably set from Pro) with only a few articulations loaded (they're separated in legato, longs, shorts and fx). As all tracks are disabled when you open it you can really just pick and choose wich articulations to use.

  • @simonterlecki
    @simonterlecki Před 4 lety +1

The Way I saw it, and the reason I chose Core over Pro is that Discover is for everyone, no matter if you're learning or just want to add some colour to your work, Core is for composers that need the full instrumental pallet ready and Pro is more for producers and mixers that fine tune the composer's work for broadcast (though in many cases that job overlaps with the composer's job).

I've gone and made my own template for Studio One. I found the one on te Spitfire site a bit complex for my tastes, so I just made one with each of the instruments, and some setup for Articulation switching. Then I threw in a channel for my drum plugin of choice (Addictive Drums, setup with Fairfax kit), 3 audio channels for Bass and a pair of Guitars, a group for Kontakt and some midi channels to feed it and a pair of channels for vocals. So far, its all great. I'll probably add some printing tracks to generate stems for later mixing. Still gotta work out a good way to build up "pad" orchestrations.... But its all working good so far. Oh one big thing. It appears Studio One and Spitfire have very different ideas on where C0 lies on a piano.

This is truly impressive! I looked at the website, and the playing techniques your libraries offer really support 20th and 21st century composers! What I did NOT find out is whether there is a different amount of playing techniques available between the CORE and the PRO version? According to what you say most likely not. But just in case there are more playing techniques available in PRO, would you mind to put a link where they can be found? (The "What you get" menu option on the website does not list the playing techniques in this particular case as it does with other libs; probably because the list would be incredibly long.)
Personally. what would interest me as a viewer who has no Spitfire library ATM would be an introduction to the Orchestra's percussion instruments and how to use them.

I will be going for Core, after much deliberation over which of your many libraries available to buy! It is a shame Bass Clarinet isn't in core. My question is about articulations - do we need to create a separate track for each articulation for each instrument, or is there another way to switch? I'm not very good at that side of things, though I am trying to learn.

In case you haven't found out in the two years since your original comment, you can assign keys outside of the instrument's range to select different articulations (default is octave -1). Man I love this product

It would be really cool to add the extended woodwinds from pro into core but excluding the extra mic positions. I know, it’s a big ask... :). I miss not having a Cor Anglais.

I will stick with Discover as I just use it for backing tracks with other VSTs and libraries such as
Halion 6, Kontakt Factory and freebies, even with something like Sonatina. Obviously the Core
and Pro versions are way better. I would buy Core if I was composing trailer music commercially
but Discover is more than acceptable for amateurs.

I use Core, with some other libraries to supplement the missing instruments that Pro has. One thing really bugs me (and it wasn't fixed in the patch that fixed the legato) and that is the xfade on the solo horn long patch. It comes in way to early and it's a very harsh sound. horns a4 does it way better. please tweak!

Hi Christian. Thank you so much for the video. I already use core and really love it. I will definetly upgrade to pro as soon as possible. My question is: what kind of hardware would you recommend to make sure that the library can be used without any problems even with big orchesteal compositions? What kind of hardware do you use for yourself? Thx in advance

Delighted with Core. I was put off Pro by the enormous size of the library. I too would like to be able to unload articulations not needed - the pencil icon for doing this is shown in the Core manual - but doesn't exist in reality. Pity. Easy to fix in an update maybe? I'm using Spitfire solo strings to get the 'leaders' and using the close mics only it works really well.

I wonder if I use Spitfire Studio strings in the same manner as mentionned above if they would incorporate fine... they where NOT recorded in the same studio. Air studio One for Studio Strings and BBC was recorded at London’s famous Maida Vale Studios. @christianhenson your opinionof they would blend well? Thanks

Just add more RAM, and forget problem about unloading! I think 32 gigs of RAM is quite enough!

The reason that i would not buy the pro version is not the money but the weight of the library more than 600GB its a lot.

Hi, thanks for the video. Just I have one question, different from Spitfire Strings, there i can assign a Ccmidi control to the articulation, but here i can't see any option to do that, so we must work with all the articulations opens on tracks into the session? Thanks

You can use the low -2 keys on the keyboard as keyswitches I believe. If there is a way of mapping these to MIDI though, I'm not sure.

I'm still torn between this or Albion One.. I know Christian mentioned in another video that Albion One is a go-to for him because he comes from the world of production/EDM and that is also where I am coming from. I'm just looking to make a purchase to get started on orchestral programming and would like to have the freedom of individual instruments that BBCSO offers over Albion One but also am not sure if that makes the learning curve that much harder for me?

I have Discovery. The string sounds, especially violins, all have a noticeable quick increase in volume in the LONG mode, regardless of which settings I try (all the velocity profiles). I am looking for a steady-volume string sound. Is this something I can only get in CORE, or is there a way to achieve it in Discovery?? Thanks!

You should really create templates for Reaper since it's super stable and quick with BBC SO (more than Live and PtoTools on PC) and it's also accessible to the blind.

Love the videos. I fell in love with Spitfire sonic textures several years ago and ready for motor. If I was to upgrade my currently Albion's to all the Albions (to form orch central- so to speak), how does this compare to getting the full Pro BBC version instead. Anyone? Nice work on the App too.

Hi, Could you please do a video showing how to do articulation sets with BBCSO Core, because so far I have not been successful and getting stressed over it !!
When I say articulation sets , I mean being able to change the articulation of specific notes via the Piano roll in logic Pro X with the BBCSO Plugin.
    Thank you!!

From the Spitfire website: "There is an upgrade path between BBC Symphony Orchestra Discover, Core and Professional. The price you pay to upgrade from one edition to another is simply the price difference between the two products at the point of purchase. Owners of any edition can view their price by ensuring they are logged in to our website then clicking ‘Add to Cart’ on the edition they wish to upgrade to."

I bought the core edition and love it, but...........
Do you think there will ever be an option add either the close mics or “mix 2” hyped mix?
I will never be able to justify the cost of an upgrade to the professional version personally, but I would pay a lesser cost just to add extra mic/mix options. Not all the mic options as I realise the size of what that would add, even just Jakes Mix 2.
I think it would help make the core version more versatile and useable in more circumstances. The mix 1 sound is a bit underwhelming for some of the instruments when trying to go for something more intense/aggressive.
    Thanks 😊👍

The thing is, from my point of view, that Core it's too cheap for what it is. Even with only 1 mic. So when you upgrade to Pro you are paying for the quality that you already have.
They are "loosing" money when you only buy Core hoping that you will love it and wanted more so you will pay the Pro. I hope that you understand what I say.
I mean, I also have Core and I would love more mics, but things are as they are.

My only valid option is the BBC Symphony Orchestra because it comes as a pluggin. I can't afford the high priced DAW's so I went with Cakewalk and so far it's my saving grace. Discovery may not be broadcast-worthy, but I'll have to make it work.

What do you recommend as first investment? If I become the next Bill Gates or win a lottery I'll buy them all plus a coffee for all Spitfire's team! :D Thank you guys and stay safe! :)

I have both the Albion One and BBC Core. The Core sounds way better but it's just an orchestra. The Albion One comes with sound design tool (?? I think you can call it that) some extra drums, synth and I think couple of other things AND the orchestra.
If you are more into weird noises/sounds you might be better off with Albion while still having full orchestra at your disposal.

Does the core edition allow you to select how you trigger a technique? I see in the manual it says you could switch between triggering an articulation with a key switch or, lets say, a midi channel. I know however that sometimes manuals are reused between versions. At any rate, this is such a wonderful library and I can't wait until I can finally get it!
