This raises a good point. It really does almost feel like we've got two different shows at times. The Nina/Frenchie/Kimiko subplot could be too much to balance for most shows, but they've made it work well and tie into/compliment the bigger story. Not just any writing staff can make that work in only 8 episodes.

@@Cbricklyne Oh trust me, I know. It’s bothering me as well. I have mild dyslexia and the lack of paragraphs makes my brain short circuit a bit. I posted this via mobile app and my screen is cracked. The area of my screen in which the “return” button is located is unfortunately smashed to bits and unresponsive. I have a few shards of glass in my thumb from jabbing at it repeatedly to try to make it work. Maybe I’ll edit it when I replace the screen, but I’m broke and far too spacey to actually remember to by the time I get it fixed.
One thing I thought was interesting: Homelander genuinely meant it when he said he was glad to see Starlight next to him. All of what was happening, I think he was looking for support from anywhere and the fact that she showed up proved to him that there was still a constant within Vought that he could count on.
I got that he really meant it as well. After seeing the split personality he has going on, I think the more genuine emotional moments we get of him are very real. But then "the other guy" takes over and YIKES.
@@funnylilgalreacts I don't see it as an actual split personality, just as a way of visualising the struggle between wanting acceptance and wanting to stop caring. Homelander is so desperate for the former that he seeks it anywhere he can, including in people he's terrorised.

This episode perfectly encapsulates the BEST part about the boys. It can offer up shock and absurdity, while at the same time giving some of the best writing, character moments, and acting around. Every single actor was at 100%. Antony Starr is a fucking menace!
I'm just imagining telling my past self about this episode. A Train is going to apologize about Robin? Makes sense and a great arc.. in the middle of a supe orgy? Brilliant.
The showrunners were like "good luck youtubers" with this episode :)

It really cannot be understated how much better this show is than the comics. Herogasm is a story in the comics, but like everything the show has done so far it's smarter, funnier, and feels more essential and emotionally resonant as a story and it avoids doing dumb stuff. Hell, A-Train* and The Deep are basically non-characters in the book who appear a handful of times and do next to nothing, and the how the show has heavily revised them has been incredible.
*Outside of being a speedster who accidentally kills Hughie's girlfriend at the beginning of the series, the A-Train of the show has *nothing* in common with the crude, one dimensional comic book version.
@@joegreene7619 I disagree. His Hellblazer run, a good chunk of Preacher, and just about all of his run on The Punisher is pretty good. I am not dissing Ennis, but I think aside from the base concept, The Boys is hands down one of the very worst things he ever did and one of the worst comics I ever read back when it was still being published. It's like he decided to make an entire series out of every bad thing his detractors said about his writing and left in only 10% of the stuff that he's actually good at.
@@joegreene7619 Have u read his Punisher MAX series? He dislikes superhero stuff anyway. He just didn't give the characters in the comics much depth like in the show and some few things in the comics just didn't make sense.

Homelander had the face of fear and that is something he hasn't felt before at least in terms of someone actually standing up to him and forcing him to fight for real.
Soldier Boy is a walking mini-nuke and his blast takes alot out of him and he needs time to recharge. But Homelander retreated from a fight.

We waited for 3 seasons for Butcher and Homelander to throw hands and it did not disappoint! I'm proud of Hughie of getting in the fight. I don't know how this season going to end I have a feeling it going to be awesome and heartbreaking!
Alcohol and self-loathing is absolutely a thing that draws people together.
Vought implants a tracking device in every member of the Seven (maybe with the exception of Homelander), in season 2, episode 6 Frenchie removed Starlights tracker from her right shoulder so Hughie, M.M. and her could investigate Liberty (aka Stormfront”s) origin.
That scene with Homelander talking to himself in the mirror reminds me of Green Goblin from the Sam Raimi series of Spider-Man films.
Also at 33 mins "'I'm so turned on right now" lmao.
Homelander's conversation with himself was straight out of Norman Osborne/Green Goblin in Spider-Man.
oh no, Kimiko is definitely something of a monster. she doesn't just do what she has to, she often chooses the most violent and painful deaths for her enemies, like peeling a guy's face off or slicing them apart.
even in this episode, she killed the guy when she stabbed his femoral artery (be would pass out within seconds from blood loss and wasn't fighting her any more), but she chose to keep stabbing the bad guy in the heart and chest until she's covered in his blood. Powers or not, she's a monster, and she realized it on her mission in Russia, because the girl shot her and when she revived they were too scared of her to even accept help, so she got the outside perspective of how others see her.
I can understand her anger in that moment at the guy who had only moments before been punching her in a place where he knew she had stitches for no other reason than to make her suffer more when he easily could have just killed her or knocked her out.
Anybody would feel that level of anger and need to exact revenge and make him feel as much pain as he just did you, and in that sense she's not a monster.
She's human.
She just has the capability of making that need for revenge a reality.
@@Cbricklyne I have the impression that if the opposite happens: that is a man instead of kimiko who behaved in the same way towards a woman (enemy). because of the double standard everyone would consider him a monster on the TV show.
Did you know that Jensen Ackles is in the top 50 most popular actors in the world, I think he's the 42, maybe but I do know he's on the top 50, which is well deserved, he's awesome.

Your point about Huey not being able to save Robin is really good. Others are saying he’s dealing with “toxic masculinity” or whatever but it’s obvious its not about that.
I love how a train was told off by her, she's come a long way and I feel bad for her cause she knows they're all evil and she can't do anything except take orders from them but to see her put a-train in his place was like her speaking for the audience that watches the show, bravo!

I think we know that Victoria needs to see what she is targeting to explode it. Annie unfortunately does not know that. We also know that blinding people is a major weapon in Annie's toolkit. So I think Annie could win that fight, but it depends on who strikes first.
there's also the question how exactly her head popping functions?
Is it like telekinesis, where she basically puts an immense pressure on someone?
If yes, then homelander is pretty much invincible, considering that we know they basically tested out most weapons on him and nothing worked.
Antony Starr played twins on Outrageous Fortune, one slimey lawyer and one stoner hippy. He's amazing.
Thanks for sharing. That was great. Using Herogasm as a set-piece for important, intimate ;) story moments was effective and creative. The acting was the best it's been yet. And, yep, Herogasm was eclipsed by the over-arching story. A brilliant piece of work.
damn i'm conflicted... i honestly feel that in order to stop homelander, especially with him at the height of his power and insanity, you need to be willing to use force, to fight dirty, because at this point, he needs a good decking.
that being said, i don't like the idea of disregarding the lives lost in these battles. while i still feel like these fights, as physical as they get, are necessary to impose on superpowered beings who won't play nice, the drive to stop them shouldn't push it past the point of any regard for innocent lives.
Agree with that, but we are talking about Butcher here, who has murdered innocent people for his own personal gains, not just taking out criminal soups. What he is doing and leading his team to do is par for the course, and essentially a parallel to Homelander himself.

Actually I think it was worse than that.
Don't forget that part of Soldier Boy's power is that when he hits you with that blast, he either obliterates you (if you're a normie or a lower-level Supe without invulnerability or super-strength), ....
....or,...if you were a stronger Supe, it takes your power away (like Kimiko), and I believe the implication was that in the case of Supes who transform into something else or some other form, they get frozen in that form.
So snake penis guy is stuck like that, just like Termite (had he lived) would have been stuck as a small guy forever......and I imagine if Doppelganger was still alive and had been a that party, he would be stuck in whatever shape or form he had morphed into or transformed into.

Homelander has more in common with The Deep (and Black Noir to a point) than he realizes. Out of the core surviving members of The Seven, Homelander and The Deep lack a solid identity or depth outside of their superhero personas, so unlike Starlight, Maeve and even A-Train*, they are NEVER seen in civilian clothing nor are they shown to have or had even one healthy relationship w/ a regular person.
*A-Train wore civvies at least once in Season 1 and he's changed his costume this season, which is treated as a joke but also defines his internal struggles within the role assigned to him.
Yeah Homelander stalking to Homelander is a real tell. And that actor should get every award possible for playing that role perfectly

His childhood idol has totally rejected him and tried to kill him. Homelander is edging closer and closer to a full psychotic break where he accepts that he'll never be loved. And we've already heard from him what he'll do after that.

There’s not one bad actor in the show. Like even Chace Crawford playing the deep… He’s still so good at showing emotions even though his character is absolutely ridiculous 80% of the time

39:14 i don’t think Russian music specifically triggers Soldier Boy’s laser beam. I think it’s anger. The Russian music just reminds him of all the torture he was put through, which makes him angry and sets him off. Remember how he killed Countess, he was pissed the hell off and did it with ease.

Antony Starr (homelander) is some of the best acting I've seen in a series. In season 1 I was like ok whatever, but at this point I'm literally blown away. This guy is literally killing it.
Annie is my favorite character. She's the only one that has the power and the character that a superhero should have.
The mirror scene is up there with Dafoe's scene in Spider-Man 1. Maybe not as crazy as the goblin... but man can Antony Starr act

14:40 i feel like that entire commentary between A-Train and Ashley is speaking on the fact that black people only protest when a white person or white cop kills a black person but they don’t say anything or protest when it’s black on black crime. anyone else thought the same thing?
A-Train killing innocent people (Hughie’s girlfriend and Popclaw) and not really caring but then a supe does something to his brother and all of a sudden he wants justice. Just what i was feeling when i watched that scene.
I think it’s more so that A-Train is a privileged man who is been able to ignore his own neighborhood for such a long time because it wasn’t in his face. I don’t really think that it was a black or white issue at all. And Ashley was right in saying he didn’t do anything about it until it affected him.
You also have to remember that Black people do have an issue with other Black people killing Black people. You just don’t hear about it because the news doesn’t report about it.
It’s hard to hate anyone in this show cuz all of the actors are so good and likable!
The actors really played up the debauchery of this episode, but honestly I think it was a lot tamer than I expected, especially after watching 3 seasons of this show. That being said, the battle at the end more than made up for it, solid episode that felt like a finale, great we have 2 more episodes to go this season.
I expected a lot worse. I'm glad it turned out the way it did. Like I said, it wasn't really what was front a center. All the emotional stuff and the fight were the best parts.

I think that the writers did this episode that way specifically. Herogasm got sooo built up so they were able to slip under our defenses. MM, Homelander and Frenchie got me in my feels. HARD. Billy tore my butt up next as you've already watched. They knocked this whole season outta the park.
The way Soldier Boy talks about not wanting to hurt those people in midtown makes me believe he’s a good guy but is just a tiny bit bad and not like other supes
Honestly I think Soldier Boy is probably still not a good guy. Probably falls somewhere in the Chaotic Neutral alignment. Laws are suggestions to him and hes sort of in it for himself. But I dont believe he ever is truly "evil". He doesn't want to hurt random people but if it happens as a by product of getting what hes after so be it is sort of the deal. I don't know if he exhibits and good so far, hes never really looking out for others and even his deal with Butcher and Hugie is entirely selfish to help him achieve his goals. You could argue that he seems to be a bit remorseful about the deaths at midtown which suggests he at least has a conscious about which is something.
Watching it again and again through reactions and just rewatching I can see the remorse in the way he talks about the Midtown incident and it makes me wonder when he asks M.M. if its entirely meant to be rude or if there might actually be some undertones of genuine curiosity in an attempt to almost remember them himself and reflect on it but that could be WAY WAY off.
i hope that a-train become an antihero going rogue by his own and starts killing who deserves

This episode looked like it had a lot of plots mixed together but really loved Butcher, SB, Hughie and Homelander fight.

The actual HeroGasm part of the episode was Loads of fun, but for me it was more like a Chowder Appetizer that I slurped down before getting my hands on the Real Meat of the story. 😋

Soldier Boy is suffering severe PTSD. It's less Winter Soldier and way more your poor uncle who hears a car backfire and starts screaming about "Charlie in the trees!" while having flashbacks.
Also there's no chance the way Blue Hawk died wasn't intentionally symbolic, A-Train just stood in for the pickup truck.
There were a lot of great scenes in this episode! A lot of emotional damage!
