I work as a sailing instructor (we rent kayaks to the public too) and I’m always helping people in and out of kayaks. Many haven’t ever kayaked before. Happy to hear I’ve been doing it right 😂.

This is what representation does! ❤️❤️ I’m a plus size man who loves the outdoors, seeing another plus size person shown active, out in nature; and educating proper kayak use almost made me emotional. What a great video!

I’m a bigger dude myself, went kayaking last summer for the first time. Never thought it was something that I’d ever do. I absolutely loved it!! I’d like to do it more but it’s been such a cold, rainy summer here in Alaska this year 😢

That was fun! On the beach, there's another method: the kayak parallel to the shore, as in the video, but then step over the kayak so it is between your legs. Then sit down in the cockpit and put your legs in. Of course, that only works if the width of the boat and the length of your legs are compatible😂. Docks can be tricky when the water level is very low and the dock high above the boat. After putting my feet into the kayak as in the video, I turn my body around, keeping a good grip on the dock, and lower myself slowly into the boat.
I love this! I’m about the same size as the beautiful girl in the video & I’ve always wanted to kayak, but find fear of falling in keeps me away! Thank you so much for showing that it doesn’t matter your size or your experience level, if you want to explore nature, you totally can!! 🥰

This beautiful young lady did a great job of explaining how to get in and out of the kayak in several scenarios.
I have been kayaking for about 2 or 3 years now. I have always just walked in knee deep and plopped in. Then hop back out in knee deep water. I even put a paracord on my bow that i hold so dont lose it.
I am gonna finally try this technique

The slow and low thing, if everyone just remembered that a lot of kayak biffs would never happen. You guys should print that in the inside of your kayaks with a little diagram showing someone slowly crouch lol

Thank you! I just always got in, with my kayak on the edge of the shore, and my son pushed me out, LOL! I don't have him for that anymore, but they have put in a new dock after ripping the old one out years ago, and it even has a humongous plastic kayak-launching chute. I had to go and watch how other people used it, because I couldn't figure it out, LOL!

I picked up a Pelican Kyak yesterday and man o man, this lesson truely helped. Funny thing,😂the Fire and Rescue boat came out for a training.... I did NOT have to use them due to your wonderful instruction!!! Again, thank you soooo much, this really helpd!! Ang in WA state, 64 and bad knees.... weeee, such freedom!!❤😊🎉

He’s a somewhat experienced kayaker, so he helped a lot. But I was NERVOUS!

Just go ahead and get wet practicing standing up in the kayak. I PROMISE, sooner you get that (and it doesn’t take long, just takes the feel for it) sooner the entire kayak experience gets effortless. Even still tho I’ve found getting in from a dock can be one of the more challenging ways to get in. She does a very good job
