Season 3 Episode 4 "Lines In The Sand"
House takes the case of Adam (Braeden Lemasters),[18] a 10-year-old severely autistic boy, who screams loudly for no apparent reason. Cuddy makes a minor change to House's office and he refuses to use it until it is returned to its original state; thus, he finds himself wandering the hospital in need of a temporary office. Meanwhile, Ali (Leighton Meester) still has a crush on House and is becoming a nuisance.

Cuddy is one of the few people who can keep up with House XD
@@Warrior_of_Symbolica And even then, she stays behind sometimes. lol
@@bonissoni1989 who doesn't?
@@Warrior_of_Symbolica She did keep up with House. Until he drove his car in her living room, literally. After that, she's done.

Hahahaha Freud

“YOU CAN’T STOP OUR LOVE”
and Cuddy’s like: “kill me pls” 🥴
... oh God i love them so much 😂🙏🏼
I think she was so close to breaking out in laughs.
I bet the other doctors were just wishing they had popcorn and a camera to film that
One of his funniest lines
And the way his smartass smile pops up after.
@Christian Stewart That would make their romance weird
House took the anesthetic
Wilson: "Out of vicodin?"
😂😂😂
I laughed so hard
House: *deeply inhales anesthetic several times* Doesn’t fall asleep
Kid: *mouth touches anesthetic* Falls asleep immediately
Houses Vicodin tolerance must be through the roof
He's a kid, so it's gonna affect him a lot easier too
It’s not Vicodin, it’s a combination of volatile anaesthetic gasses (nitrous oxide, halothane, isoflurane, desflurane, sevoflurane)
maybe he took little breaths ;p Meanwhile kid was probly slightly overventilating bc he was fighting for the last 30 mins.
Yeah. I imagine if you take 3/4 (roughly guessing) times the recommended amount of a drug that at that dosage would make someone pass out or die, taking "a few hits" of an anesthetic might not quite make you pass out. He did stagger greatly while getting up and leaving. We also have to remember this is a show and they're all acting so... you have to take it with a grain of salt.
@Walkin' Tall goodness gracious, hope you no longer have that complication!
House stumbling out of the room has me on the floor 😂
Me too😂😂😂
Nothing much, just inhaled some anesthetic gas. I'm fine.
*Trips over 10 times*
Him too
I mean Hugh Laurie is a comedy actor after all.
House too
As an autistic person, I loved how House handled the little boy and his fears and behaviors. Restraint is not going to help us. Yelling is not going to help us. It’s only going to make it worse, especially for kids. This little boy has no idea what they want to do and why. House quietly shows him that it’s no big deal and makes it feel safer for the kid. Say what you want about house but he showed more empathy and kindness to this kid than anyone else in that hospital.
Sure but if they continue to resist treatment they (the child, or adult if they are older) needs to be restrained, AND any family member who second guesses the medical personnel about that needs to be removed from the room.
Source: worked in an ER for 6 months and saw ~6 autistic cases, half of whom needed restraint and every single one of those 3 had family members tell me (who is not responsible for ordering the restraints (doctor is), only securing the patient with help from nurses) “you dont have to use those” and 1 of them tried to force me out of the room (called security).
Autism sucks, but acting as if we are hurting the individual, when we are only helping them, is ridiculous. It doesnt help anyone in the room and hurts the patient.
as someone with bigger autism i say restrain us as much as possible we are a danger to society
@@MTREDHEADS as someone with even bigger autism i say "restrain us as much as you want. we love it. we scream in extasy not in fear".
how the hell did those two clowns manage to ruin your post like this lmao I apologize on their behalf
Why family members have to leave the room?
2:32 That smirk on his face, knowing he's embarrassing her by causing a scene.
that smile...
that damn smile..
The guys in the office can be heard breathing hard. Laughing
Did anyone else notice that House smiled when the kid finally breathed in the anesthesia? IDK if I'm over analysing but that seemed like the caring smile that he gives to someone he understands (as in "I gotchu"), not just the smile of pride that he got the kid to adhere with his plan.
That, or he’s loopy af from breathing in all that anesthetic lol
There is a good chance house knew what to do cause he is also autistic
House liked kids and babies.
high smile 😃
@@danieloconnell3139 it could be 2 things
The red berries theory applies to non autistic kids too, early in development many kids choose to eat/drink from parents plates bowls or hand because they feel the "safety" aspect. Kids also tend to follow the grp when playing.
I love the way Cuddy says "She's pretty"
She's SO jealous!
I'm with you so far
Jealous with a girl who got a virus🤣
Something about the tone of her voice is so cute there
The way she mocks him made me chuckle. Then “Men are stupid”.
Can we just give a shout out to this kid's actor? It must not have been easy to play such a part!
lmao, lets shout out the kid actor for accurately acting like a kid. OKAY, LOGIC
@@iamReddington theres definitely a difference between a kid acting like a brat and telling a kid to act like a brat. I can guarantee you most will not act the way they usually do if you tell them to
Oh yeah, screaming and twitching with irritation is something that is very impressive that would be hard for anyone to do. And just in case you are wondering, that was sarcasm
@@voiceacticon667 someone hasnt seen enough shit movies to know that its not as easy as it sounds to make it look genuine
@@Biosquid239 you don’t know shit of what I have seen and not seen
It’s interesting when we see the humanity in House. During the series, it’s always with patients that are misunderstood or have no way of communicating with the rest of the world. House always explains them away but you can see the underlying theme that he truly understands people in more ways than any other character will ever comprehend. Even with all his brilliant observations and puzzle solving, he can’t figure out how to get others to connect with him on his plane. House can figure out theirs, everyone else can only get glimpses of it: Challenge of being a genius.
He knows how to. He was just too scared to.
The way he leaves the room after running into things 😂
Me when I wake up in the morning:
"YOU CAN'T STOP OUR LOVE!!"
And the smirk right after ☠️
"She's called you 15 times your mother's not that interested in you" 💀😂😂😂
Anthea Iu “Maybe I’d be better adjusted if she was” House is and always will be my favorite TV show.
2:28 I bet she tried so hard not break character to laugh from House’s line
I love how Wilson just shrugged at the other doctor as if to say "He's fine" 😄
House depicts walking on nitrous 100% accurately.
My heart shattered when house was "communicating" with the kid..he really does care
Or, you know, he just wanted some peace and quiet.
The way he dismisses his human moments with sarcasm or logic, like here “Monkey see, monkey do” and when he and Cuddy saved a baby “I just realized I forgot to TiVo aliens” shows me how uncomfortable his own humanity is - but shows me that his humanity runs deep in any case.
He's not "communicating" with quotation marks, he's legit communicating with Adam. Adam is autistic and the gas is making him feel weird, which is scaring him. He just wants to know what's happening. House "shows" him what will happen, without making his overstimulation worse the way Wilson and the others did. Because he sees what will happen - or thinks he does - because of the gas, and probably due to the novelty of an adult communicating with him like he's a person and not a dog, he calmed down enough for them to sedate him. It never occurred to these parents or the doctors to explain to Adam what they were doing and why, they just forced him to obey.
@@LAKnightAuthor yeah sort of like how some kids no matter how many times you tell them not to do something like jumping off a couch they continue to do it till they get hurt. And also why younger kids will whine scream and cry to get their shots until they see an older sibling try it
Cuddy: "Men are stupid."
House: "I'm with you so far!"

Also House: "Monkey see, monkey do."
House really wants to reject humanity and return to monke.
Monke, together stronk

3:43 i love House's reaction there
"Seriously? i need to take in this thing more?"
I read it as “Holy Hell. This Shit’s strong”
My personal favorite episode. Comedy was great ("YOU CAN'T STOP OUR LOVE") and it shows how good of a doctor House is, so much so that he can do in 30 seconds what a pair of parents couldn't do in years. Also, handled that anesthetic like a champ, imagine having two pain killers coursing through your system when you're half a leg down
All house wants is his cable and his carpet back

House embarrassing his boss is what I love about this show
Poor Wilson, often deceived and exploited. Though to be fair, he issues great payback (filing through the cane, anyone?).
Halfway through the cane. It's brilliant and required a lot of thought.

I hear that Mustaches have been known to slow down time.
It's not scary, it's natural; and it doesn't fly fast, it's only our perception illusion.
Obviously you are here too
One of my favorite moments in the series. "YOU CAN'T STOP OUR LOVE!" Brilliant.
This is actually rather interesting cause autistic people actually do have a hard time articulating words, and better times using actions
So house showing the kid it was safe was actually fairly accurate
LOL House stumbling around after taking a few hits was hilarious! 😂😂😂
3:56 wow, House’s eyes are so mesmerizingly blue... sorry, what were we talking about?

No judgements here, sister. It's exactly why my prescription contacts are blue 😂😂😂
The ending of this episode really touched my heart
Also: He uses the monkey metaphor again in 'Airborne'.
Uh...I think you meant to write "analogy".... It's easier for writers to reuse metaphors or analogies instead of constantly making up new and original ones...just like in real life.
@@bubbaguy4411 he said metaphor because house calls them metaphors. even the staff say metaphor cuz thats all he does
@@bubbaguy4411 Don't be a smartass.

Not gonna lie, I lost it when House took the mask away from the kid to give himself one more puff of the gas. 😆
When house hits the meds and starts walking into shit XDD
"You can't stop our love!!" - words by House
Honestly though, him using the mask so the kid knows it's safe was brilliant.
I love how House didn’t even argue with Cameron. He just let her go off explaining everything and let Cuddy come in to prove her wrong.
I find it interesting how House was able to relate and communicate with the patient even better than the parents were. Talking to someone who is autistic is like speaking to someone who is not speaking your language, so communication is practically impossible depending on that person’s severity of autism.
The point was just the opposite: there was no communication involved; the boy just observed that the mask didn't hurt House, so it probably wouldn't hurt him either. And most people on the autism spectrum can speak and understand language. It's not necessarily an intellectual disability.
froggy doodle I was using the language comparison as an analogy. Don’t take it literally. Communication is not just limited to verbal interaction, but also non-verbal interaction which is what some people with higher-functioning autism struggle with (i.e. body language). The patient doesn’t know that the doctors are trying to sedate him with the mask. For all we know, he’s never seen such a thing and has every reason to be afraid of it. They need to communicate to him that he needs to breathe through the mask, but he doesn’t understand that. It’s a very similar situation when you are trying to talk to someone who doesn’t speak English for example. That person isn’t stupid, just doesn’t speak your language. Yes, autism isn’t an intellectual disability. It is difficult to get that message across hence the analogy.
No it’s not yikes dude
Anthony Mendez yikes no. Just stop
@@bstmeg5237 what does he have to stop he actually makes a lot of sense really

I love how Chase just looks at House one more time like, "we done messing with her boss?"
House never misses a chance to get a hit of something. He could've pretended to breathe in the anesthetic.
I actually remember seeing this episode on TV on its original air date: September 26, 2006. I was in my Sophomore year in High School back then! Today (Thursday, December 7, 2023) marks the VERY FIRST TIME since the original airing of this episode of House that I have EVER seen it!! Definitely a trip down memory lane!
Wow, 2006. Hasn't aged a bit.
i love how they're still uploading so i have something actually interesting to watch during quarantine lol
Braeden’s acting in this is incredible. I hope he keeps acting in the future.
I know that anaesthetic is meant for a small child but I’d doubt that House would be conscious after inhaling a bunch of sevoflurane.
actually no, because of the type of procedure and the kids own severe autism the combo wasn't designed like it was for a normal child who would be dosed slowly because their not freaking out. It was designed to knockout after a couple inhales which is why the kid was out quickly and houses body both taller and heavier just kinda lost sense of his muscles as his system deals with what he inhaled. Side note: they cant give an injection because that would mess with the test results.
Also you've gotta think with all the vicoden House does he's gotta have some tolerance
@@ameliarose47 That's not how tolerance works, House is an opiode addict, that doesn't help him much with other substances and the combination of vicodin and whatever they inhaled there would knock him out even faster.
3:01 Where the "eating the red berries" scene begins.
The best part was House was actually mimicking his patient the moment he walked in. Loud, moving all around and not stopping with the typical ques. It made him and his patient seem like they are in the same situation. House only got quiet after the first hit.
Guy: who are you?
House: somebody you'll never send a gift to
*later on his kid gives house a gift* .... foreshadowing!
The stumbling 😂
House always handling the kiddos with ease
