I actually really liked Ten lots of great tunes, torn to shreds, let me be the one, girl like you, long long way to go, unbelievable, you're so beautiful, love don't lie, everyday. But I like most stuff that def leppard releases as I brought Slang and Ten on the first day of release. A fan since 88
I agree only just listened to x recently good album..not their best personally i prefer it to slang which i consider their worse album although again not terrible just worse by their standards. 🤷♂️x is easier to listen to slang is bit..boring but been years since i heard it maybe adult ears will be different i bought it expecting hysteria type sound so obviously i was disappointed
Dont know why people hate on X, I think it has a lot of great songs, 4 letter word and cry are my favorite
From start to finish X is awesome. So underrated
Def Leppard makes great music, no doubt about it.
Volume levels between music intro and interview are so satisfying.
Ok so I've just learned that the X on that album cover was actually the roman numerals 10.
Me too! 🤔
My favorite song for this album is Scar!
Scar is incredible. I'm biased because it sums up the way I felt at the end of a relationship that had been very special. Lyrically it's dark and brooding, musically it's heavy in a very oid school way, yet it still has the catchy chorus that Def Leppard are masters of.
+Mark Chang - Difficult to judge. Strictly imho but had 'X' or 'Euphoria' come out in place of 'Adrenalize' they would have been more successful than it. But what I like about 'X' is whilst it has all the elements that make Leppard what they are it doesn't sound like a typical Leppard album. To me it's the sound of a band who are not trying to live up to anyone's expectations but rather are just enjoying making music. The latest album has that feel too and is all the better for it.
Mark I have them all, although 'Retro-Active' is a low quality MP3 download. Everything up to, and including, 'Hysteria' is on vinyl, everything else is on CD. I've been a fan since before 'On Through The Night' came out so I've grown up with the band. Unlike me they seem to have gotten better as they've aged (LOL).
Athletes Only I haven't heard it yet, but my favourite songs of the album are "Long Long Way To Go" and "Now".
Definitely a kick-ass track. I could’ve actually seen that being a track for the Euphoria album. Had it been done with the electronic drum kit from the 80’s, I think the song would’ve sounded better.
Love to listen to you Joe❤❤❤❤❤
It is actually one of my favourite albums from DL.
See you on 9/29/18 at the gorge in eastern Washington 🤘I’ve been attending your shows since the High & Dry tour in the paramount in Seattle back in 1980 Or 81🤘 Joe, Rick, Phil, Steve, Pete, Rick Allen, & Vivian Thank You for All the years of the best Rock on the Planet!!! Your music will live on forever 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I hated X for the longest time, but it grew on me. I enjoy a lot of the songs on the album now. "Four Letter Word" and "Scar" are definitely highlights for me.
Chase Charaba Same
Lots of good songs on X, Torn to Shreds is my favorite.
Kiss the Day is still the best song on X. Sad it was only on the import.
M2 agree fully
4 Letter Word is total classic Leppard. Is my fav on X by far but Scar is a close second. I really enjoy most of this album tho. Even Long Long Way To Go is quite enjoyable.
Agree
Love dont Lie is still one of my Fav DL tracks, its a shame i never heard it in concert.
Love that song so much it was one my brother and I covered for a while.
Savage Garden 😋
I agree with you joe, but 4 letter word and kiss the day make my day great¡
Great LP !! Great Tour as Well !!
Great Album ....
The problem with Def Leppard is these Guy's can make all song's work and Every1 love's their music. Trust Me I know what I'm talking about it's some what unique music & every1 needs change ups to keep Our Music World! Def Leppard kicks ass on stage Babe Oh yeah I love These Guys so much 🕸🖤🕸👣🕸🌻🕸🎤🕸🎸🕸🎸🕸🎤🕸☝️
Decades now I've always felt "Def Leppard" was a free roaming 1000 acre piece of land for protected animals
Still LOOKING GOOD 💋
Don't sweat it Joe, Apple knows the feeling.
One of your best innovative albums, still sounding like DL yet with a modern twist. Now and Breathe a sigh are amazing songs, but so is the entire album, as usual.
Fan since 1982
Breath a Sigh is on Slang not X.
@@retropyro I did not write that it is on X, I only mentioned that "Now" and "Breathe a sigh" are amazing songs.
@@retropyro the reason I mention them is to emphasize that they come out with different types of songs, but they still sound like DL.
lol.....honestly I thought he was going to say most people called it Xcrement 😄
Ten is the only album I merely like. I love everything else.
Scar. Best track. Has a hint of that classic Leppard sound which I love.
I agree. Sounded like Steve’s ghost in a good way!
Kiss the Day awesome song from X
I own it !
Four Letter Word and Everyday are great songs
Scar is the greatest song on “X”
❤️❤️❤️JOE ELLIOTT ❤️❤️❤️
Was definitely the band going like a boy and yet despite all the pop stuff they showed us they could still rocknon tunes like four letter word, scar, and kiss the day
Yeah, "Four Letter Word" is the best track by far. I really love that song.. "Scar" is also really good, as it sounds like it could have been on Hysteria.. I also like "Let Me Be The One".
I Love Joe and Def Lepp 💯🤘🏼❤️🔥
I really like X
Love all of their music ❤️ the one I love the best man enough make love like a man pour Suger on me
Scar is great song from X
#CheapTrick says Hello!
I thought the album name 'X' was a 'kiss', as it is often written after a signature.
I've always noticed something about animal and you're so beautiful sounding very similar to each other
Wow, amazingly honest on that one. It's my least favorite DL album, but some tracks are pretty good. My biggest complaint was about the lack of guitars.
Definitely not their best, but has some pretty damn good songs. I will say that I like the album more today than I did when it first came out.
A couple of guys in Sweden... that was MAX MARTIN haha.
Omg I never knew it was pronounced “ten” sorry Joe I’m guilty of calling it X
Does Kiss the Day count as a song from this albun? I know it's a bonus track, but it's still a good ass song
Huh. The album is called 10. I never knew
X makes me kind of sad. It had so much potential. It was pretty modern (by early 2000s standards, at least) very poppy, and could've reintroduced Def Leppard to a whole new generation of fans. However, they chose the incredibly safe Now as the lead single. Gravity or even Unbelievable would've been much more suitable lead single material, in my opinion. I mean, Unbelievable was even co-written by Max Martin, the guy responsible for just about every hit since 1997! If they had Gravity as the lead single, I could've seen X becoming a hit.
Scar is my fave song on the album
X was a real let down for me, actually I'd only rediscovered Def Leppard the previous year and bought all their albums so I was just in time for the new album. Now I think Euphoria was very good, but there were signs of them moving towards present day pop, which I didn't absolutely hate in late '90s, but by 2002 I'd about had my fill of top 40 stuff and I was getting into a lot of older bands/older music. It did kinda feel like Leppard had embraced the exact kind of music I was trying to get away from! I think when "Love Don't Lie" came on, souding like Savage Garden's "I Want You", I though "Oh now that's just going too far!".
I thought "Gravity" was OK actually, I wouldn't want to download it, but musically quite interesting, I like how the 2nd chorus cuts off mid-way and returns to beginning and there's some other little tricks that make it a bit more up to par than the other songs. Still, I heard the previous draft of that song "Perfect Girl" with different lyrics and I reckon I'd have rejected the song along with the others if they'd gone with that one, I mean how many "girl" songs is too much? It's not the pre-psychedelic '60s when bands like the Beatles were writing almost exclusively about "girls" (I heard that Paul McCartney wrote "Paperback Writer", because his grandma or someone told him she was tired of them always singing about girls. Still think "Paperback Writer" is pretty lame subject matter, though musically interesting).
Grandpa Joe getting old.
35
No, I actually think Joe was very cool with bringing in people who had worked with pop acts. The main reason being that they were so desperate to hit those top 10 singles charts.
There's a reason that no song from X is played live and that's because they're lifeless.
Joe seems to have hit the nail on the head about this album. X was always my least favorite album from them. I say 'least favorite' because it's by no means a bad album, and there's not any bad songs on here. But some of the material just never grew on me, just kinda meh. Great open (Now), great finish (Scar), other standouts for me are Torn To Shreds and Love Don't Lie.
There are two problems with this album. 1. The two songs they bought from other people suck. They don't sound like Def Leppard and they are not good. They should have sticked to their own stuff + the stuff they did with Marti Frederiksen. There's already some killer tunes of their own in the album unfortunately pushed to the second side which brings me to the problem 2. The sequencing of the songs on this album is horrendous. It it murder. The placement of those softer songs purchased from other people at the front literally kills the album. Why is a song like Unbelieveable track 2? There's some great uptempo & catchy songs pushed to the second side of the album. Unfortunately, most people never really recover from the "sellout sounds" in the first part. I have my own 10 track version of the album with a completely different tracklist with Girl Like You as the 2nd song and it sounds far more exciting.
First
I liked X but it was definitely their weakest record. You can tell they got outside writers just listening to it.
It's total crap
