I mean technically Childe never lied to us and told us from the get go that he's a bad guy hell he even warned us about the walls having ears. Sure he omitted some truths and technically used us for his goals but doesn't the same goes for Zhongli? Anyway Childe is still one of my favourite bastards.
This is why I really love Childe as the character. He is gray and interesting person.

I actually liked Childe the first time I saw him, since he did not deceive or plot against the traveler, he literally admitted to being "a bad guy" the first time you meet him.
Yeah, he's weirdly kind of honest. Like, in the Labyrinth Warriors event, he was going to tell Xinyan the truth about who he was, even though he could tell she was from Liyue.

I love the "10 more seconds"-cutscene a lot, it's so badass and the whole quest shows Childe in another light. Never would have expected to like him either.

I’m in the middle, he’s not so bad but I don’t like that he lied to his brother. Teucer is going to be upset when his brother lied to him and more upset that his brother lied to him to his face.
He was my favourite character before the quest, the quest didnt change my opinion on him

i never really hated him, i thought he was a super interesting character since the very beginning and still is. people only see him as a "bad guy" because he went against us and caused a lot of chaos in liyue... but it makes it all more interesting the fact that he's just doing his job, following his beliefs and that he doesn't really have anything personal against the traveler. he's neither a good guy or a bad guy, it just depends on your pov and which side you're on.
I feel bad for Childe, honestly. He had no choice in any of this, he was a meek child who fell into the abyss at a young age, and it messed up his head. The detail that his eyes are blank unlike other characters show how the light was snuffed from him. Then, he was sent to battle at only 14.
He is kind of a victim in all of this, who tries to make the best out of it.
And despite getting messed up in the abyss, he still has humanity intact.
All the harbingers we know of so far have had really tragic life stories...

Interesting things to note about Childe, which can help you understand him more:
- He was forced to join the Fatui.
He actually wanted to be an adventurer, after growing up listening to his dad's adventure stories. I'm sure someone's already told you that he fell into the Abyss when he was 14. When he returned home, he had changed and was constantly getting into conflicts in his hometown. His dad figured military lifestyle would straighten him out, so he had Childe conscripted (forcibly recruited). When the Fatui arrived at his house, Childe defeated all of them, which impressed one of the Harbingers. He still had to join anyway.
It's interesting to think, if his dad never had him conscripted, we would've met him as an adventurer from Snezhnaya, rather than... well, _this._
- He believes that the Tsaritsa's end goal is peace.
He has a voice over on his profile where he says that the Tsaritsa is a gentle soul who had to harden herself and that she is doing what she's doing because she dreams of peace.
- He seems to avoid unnecessary killing.
In the Golden House, the millelith we found were unconscious, rather than dead, even though it would've been easier to tie up loose ends if he killed them. In his speech before freeing Osial, he says that he didn't want to do it because "the weak" would get swept up (This dialogue was originally a lot harsher in English, but it was a mistranslation. The version we have now is a more accurate translation). If you recall, he only did it because he found out Rex Lapis was still alive, so he was certain that if things got out of hand, Rex Lapis would put an end to it before people really got hurt. Plus, he said the sigils would free Osial "for a time", meaning he knew it was temporary. And of course, there's the dialogue in this quest: "I'm no Signora. I don't use lethal force against recruits."
- He can be weirdly honest.
In the Labyrinth Warriors event that you missed, he was actually going to outright tell Xinyan his true identity despite figuring out that she's from Liyue. We get internal dialogue from both Paimon and Childe. Paimon is concerned that Xinyan might freak out or get angry if she finds out Childe is the Harbinger who freed Osial. Childe, meanwhile, identifies Xinyan as being from Liyue, then decides it might be better to just tell her the truth. Paimon interrupts him and lies to Xinyan, though.

To be fair, I feel like Childe in the Labyrinth warriors event was like, just there for a filler. He doesn't have any proposes and he show almost show no personality. When i played the event I was like "Is this the same guy I knew in the story quest?". The only reason for his whole character to be there is to tell us Scara is missing.

Childe's backstory is really interesting and I definitely recommend taking a look at it to sort of understand his "warrior" side.
The best way to describe him is a good guy on the wrong side. He is complex and mentally unbalanced and thats what makes him this intriguing.
This quest gave me a huge Red Flag vibes, hope mihoyo doesn't kill him off cause by far he is my absolute favourite character.

Griffin just nailed this role. Childe after using FL and talking about family and childhood dreams made me so emotional. Very first quest to do so actually. Voice acting in that particular scene was just beautiful. Also Teucer is adorable and precious don't care what anyone say I will protect him.

I loved Childe even before this quest. I love me some witty, self-confident (borderline narcissistic) villains, but getting to see a softer side of him was really nice and only endeared him to me more, just a great character all around imo

Yes, you've finally uploaded this! As a self-proclaimed Childe simp™, I have a love-hate relationship with his story quest. On one hand, it's really cute and shows another side to him. On the other hand, for the average player, it can seem like Mihoyo's trying to wash over what Childe did in Liyue. I really wish that it would've delved deeper into his lore, and give some more context to the average player who hasn't read Childe's voicelines and story. Since it didn't do it in this quest, here's my character study dump:
Childe's real name is Ajax, and is from a small town in Snezhnaya. He was shy and a stutterer as a young child; however, at the age of 14, he fell into the Abyss. He fought for his life in there for 3 months with the help of his master, Skirk ( whom we don't know much about yet ) and managed to escape back up to the surface. Three days had only passed in the human world. His family was confused at his complete change in personality. While he was quiet and calm before, now he would pick fights with everyone in the neighbourhood. When it didn't stop, his dad enlisted him into the Fatui, thinking that the military training would knock some sense into him. This was not the case; instead, he impressed the Fatui Harbinger Pulcinella by beating the shit out of the adults as a kid, and later ended up being the youngest ever Fatui Harbinger.
I think that an important detail about Childe is something that he says in the Labyrinth Warriors event. He says that his main purpose as a Harbinger is to seek out strong opponents and to fight. While he is definitely loyal to the Tsaritsa, he overall doesn't like the people in the Fatui. He says in his voicelines that he dislikes the other Harbingers because of how to deceptive they are. As a Harbinger, he is willing to carry out tasks that require being deceptive to complete his missions; however, it isn't something that he particularly enjoys. It isn't why he's there.
Childe's relationship with the traveler is one of the closest in the game. After you battle him and win, he gains utmost respect for them. They went from "buddy," or "girlie," to "comrade." He even writes to his family about them, to the point where his kid brother could recognize them based on their appearance alone. In the teapot, he invites you to come to his house and meet his family. Childe doesn't have many voicelines about other people, either. Teucer even tells traveler in this quest that Childe said if he was able to, he would quit the Fatui and join traveler on their adventures. He's very lonely ( which is reasonable, considering his insatiable bloodlust ) and values his relationship with traveler a lot, truly considering them to be friends ( even if traveler is still suspicious of him. )
One thing that makes Childe so interesting is the fact that apart from the murder hobby thing, he's just a normal dude. He looks like a normal guy, he has normal hobbies, and a normal family. Unlike his colleagues, he likes being up and front. He even joins street performances in Liyue when he has the chance. This is also what makes him so dangerous. He can be friendly, but he can switch to a ruthless killer in an instant. It can be easy to forget, such as in this quest when he's coddling his little brother most of the time and botching business opportunities to keep up the stupid toy seller act.
Other than the cute factor of this quest, it shows that Childe is still really young and immature. Telling his brother that ruin guards are toys and taking him to a factory that could put him in danger? He has good intentions, but it's so dangerous. Along with his Russian-Roulette game of a moral compass, he cannot be older than 23 and he does not have the best judgement. He's been thrown into this position of authority that he shares with, as far as we know with Scaramouche and Signora, immortal beings. They don't trust him either. They purposefully send him off on far-away missions to avoid dealing with him because they don't like how he does his tasks.
I'm really glad that you've changed your opinion on Childe! I know that you really like him now, after watching your tier list video. I just wanted to talk about him in the comments because there is so much to say about him that a lot of people just don't take the time to look into because "he's a bad guy" and "you can't like the bad guy."

his dynamic w the traveler is pretty interesting to me, vv curious about when we'll see him again, his 2nd story quest, snezhnaya, harbringers & ofc tsaritsa. and about mhy trying to wash his actions, yea I feel like that could be executed better? hm, altho I feel like the quest isn't rly meant for us to forgive/forget what he did, but merely just to show the other sides of him? ._. anw, the shift from childe archon quest -> childe story quest feels sudden to me & I feel like we don't spend time tgt w him that much during the game either, they're mostly just short talks compared to other characters. hm, curious about what the traveler thinks of childe...
also apparently there's tons of mistranslation stuff about the story & characters, etc. so that sucks bcs I feel like that could cause misunderstanding (it's during the golden house & the talk at the bank w signora & zhongli. found them on reddit & pasted it into my other comment). it's a bit sad & unfortunate how some info feels kinda left out/not translated well in the game? there's probably way more examples of these kinds of thing happening that we're not aware of, hence we understand/process info of what happened in the story differently
@@vnree i really hope that we’ll get to see him in an abyss related quest. it’s entirely possible that he knows our sibling. also yes, there’s mistranslations that kind of fuck up his character.they changed some of childe’s dialogue at the end of the golden house fight so it’s better than it was at release.
also childe as a playable character is fantastic. i just finished triple crowning him on sunday :)

This was easily one of the funniest character story quests for me. Paimon's lines + Childe struggling with trying to keep shit hidden from Teucer was a great time. Then again, Childe easily has some of the funniest line deliveries (looks at how he whines at the end of Liyue quest abt Signora and Zhongli -- my favorite childe AND signora scene hands down) so. :'D glad to see you enjoyed this too

From what I can understand from his profile story, it's a topic he keeps very silent about and has told nobody else. Don't know if the Tsaritsa or Zhongli might have some kind of inkling? I mean, as gods, couldn't they feel the presence of the Abyss in him?

As a Childe main, I feel like I have an obligation to explain why I adore him so much. 😅🤧 Childe's actions in Liyue of course cannot just be swept aside; though he was only acting under orders, he was of the strong belief as a Fatui Harbinger that everything commanded of him would bring glory to The Tsaritsa and her goal in making Teyvat a better place. Childe did remark in spite back then, "You've seen this world...", a parallel to Signora's, "Filthy rats, all of you!" means they know something of the true nature of the world and their duties as harbingers were just steps closer to eradicating that common enemy. Though it can be said Childe does not care about others, he is extremely and devotedly a family man who will put family above all else. It's that contrasting elements of his personality that generally makes him a well written complex but likeable character. He is neither purely evil or purely good but a combination of it and that is truly what makes him an interesting character. I expect that we'd see more of him in the future. I feel like he will play a part in shaping the future of Teyvat.

50:52 the big surprise that made me a Tartaglia main. Childe may be a Fatui Harbinger, but he’s deep down just genuinely a nice guy (if you’re not talking about fighting or anything like those ehe).
And also, hear me out, I think people kinda been hating him for the wrong reasons, many people still believe he’s a ruthless murderer and did not hesitate in unleashing Osial and endangering Liyue, despite the fact he literally voiced his hesitation in the cutscene after he was telling the Traveler about his backup plan (mistranslation is mainly to blame for this). Childe loves fighting but he’s no sadist. His goal wasn’t even to endanger people specifically; it was to lure out Rex Lapis into defending Liyue. And the fact people act like he was dumb for being duped? Does no one think about the fact that he went to the Golden House to grab the gnosis from the corpse…and still had a back-up plan that ran with the assumption Rex Lapis wasn’t really dead (which is TRUE that he is in fact, not dead when Zhongli still has his Gnosis before handing it over)? He’s not as scheming as the other Harbingers but he’s not dumb. And furthermore, if you think about it, he’s the most well-adjusted Harbinger so far despite his past. A lot of people don’t understand how he’s extremely different from the rest of his coworkers, to the point that they too alienate him - sure, they’re from the same organization but he doesn’t hold the same values as any of them so far, other than Pierro and Signora’s dedication to serving the Tsaritsa and fulfilling her goal wholeheartedly.
Good thing that this story quest fixed most of the hatred people put on Childe, and they now see him in a different light compare to what they once saw Childe in the Liyue Archon Quest

I've always like characters like Childe to be honest, so I never hated him when he first came out. Characters who just like to battle, no malicious intent, like Kenpachi Zaraki from Bleach, are always super fun in my opinion.
This quest is literally the trope of “when the villain is a really good dad.”
I absolutely adore the character of Childe. I think he’s a very well developed character. He’s a bad guy, but he’s not an awful person. He still loves his family.

Childe was my first ever 5 star and I love his playstyle of going into melee. I hope Mihoyo doesn’t kill him off before we reach Snezhnaya and meet his family because of his use of foul legacy and delusions. His obsession with fighting stronger opponents reminds me a bit of hisoka from HxH

Just came across this vid and it was awesome to see your opinion on Childe slowly change over the course of the quest! I was laughing so much, especially at all the denial parts toward the end lmao.
Childe really is such a complex character, and his moral ambiguity is just one of the reasons why he's always been a favorite character of mine. I think acknowledging him as morally grey is one of the first steps in understanding his character and what he really stands for. He's not "good" sure, but classifying him as evil is just as incorrect. He has morals, values, principles--but he also has a larger goal and deep devotion to the Tsaritsa.
During the archon quest, his purpose had been solely to retrieve the Geo Archon's gnosis, and the unleashing of Osial--which he had known would be temporary from the start, while also counting on the interference of the Geo Archon himself--had only been a contingency plan, something to fall back on in case his other plans failed. He also explained prior to the unsealing that he had "...hoped it would never come to this, for the weak would be swept away in the process", showing that he had actually never wanted to use those means in the first place. Those feelings are just a part of what separates Childe from the other harbingers. He's surprisingly quite honest and straightforward. Even from the very beginning of the archon quest, once he and the Traveler escape from the Millelith, he almost immediately reveals his position as a Harbinger.
His story quest does a great job of expanding on his easy-going nature. Once you enter the Northland Bank to meet him, you get to catch the tail-end of his conversation with Ekaterina, one of his subordinates. To provide a brief comparison, Signora is known to torture and punish her subordinates, and Scaramouche didn't even tolerate his subordinates speaking out of turn in Unreconciled Stars, and Dottore...well, Dottore is beyond messed up (You should definitely check out the official comic to learn more on that). Meanwhile, Childe speaks very, very casually with his subordinates, and his conversation with Ekaterina even shows us that he canonically makes lighthearted bets with them as well.
Overall, the story quest is a testament to just how different he is from the other harbingers. He never perceived the Traveler as a nuisance or an enemy to eliminate, has a generally friendly disposition, possesses a deep love for his family and is a believer in keeping his promises, even putting his life on the line to protect Teucer (because as we've learned, the Foul Legacy Transformation causes extreme injury and strain to his body), on top of even inviting the Traveler to his home to meet his family. This combined with his voice lines for the Serenitea Pot is just one big shot to the heart. He's dangerously endearing. When you place him in the Serenitea Pot, his favored furniture set is a KITCHEN. There's even an official mini-comic, where Childe is shown cooking and even doing regular cleaning and chores, all from the POV of a new Fatui recruit.
If you're interested in learning more about Childe, I highly recommend reading his character stories. They provide huge insight into Childe's personality, and his lore is pretty insane, to say the least. After that, I'd also recommend watching the Version 2.2 event, Labyrinth Warriors, where Childe makes an appearance alongside Xinyan. Even though the 2.2 event doesn't provide as much character lore as the 2.3 (Shadows Amidst Snowstorms) event did for Albedo, it does tell us a bit more about how Childe perceives himself. Would love to see you react to it!

Love the reaction. Honestly I think Childe is the most upfront villain even in the Liyue Archon quest. It's easy to hate him but considering he has a really traumatizing backstory, it's pretty understandable how he grew up to be this person he is now. Overall, I still consider this one of the best story quest ever.

Why do i see comments about ppl hating Childe? Like, Bad Guys or Villains are still cool, just bc he used us and almost wiped out Liyue? Bro, several ppl in Teyvat manipulated us and weren’t bad guys, Zhongli also did that and he isn’t a bad guy, now, we have Dottore, perfect Villain, even though he experimented on Collei and also almost destroyed Sumeru with his “Experiment”, Signora is also a Villain, and yet, almost no one hated her bc they knew she was bad from the beginning(but same for Childe lol), she had a sad backstory(and Childe almost died in the Abyss)
This quest showed his good side, i wonder if other harbingers have their good sides too🤔
Childe's other cousins might be playable characters maybe it think 🤔

i love childe and this story quest so much, he’s by far my favourite. the humanity and more depth we were given was the first idea that harbingers arent just loyal tsaritsa dogs and have some sort of personal goals. he was mostly honest with us from the get go and yet it still felt like betrayal. that AND childe’s backstory genuinely makes me upset the idea of lost childhood and loosing himself.

If you think about it, Childe fights for his home because he loves his home he wants to protect it and after suffering for what it felt 3 months in the abyss tsaritsa took him. I believe he was 14 when he fell in the abyss and probably very traumatising for such age. I would say that Childe’s had one of the best character development. Not only that but the fact that he puts his family before everything is very respectable to me. I hope we get to see more of Childe in the future! Truly a very interesting character with a past that makes you want to dig into it.
I absolutely love the cutscene where he kills the ruin guards in 10 seconds, its rly cool.

Childe didn't really wanna join the futui, I'm pretty sure he fell into the abyss when he was 14 and from there they trained him up until he lost his eye sparkle. He's the only character in the game who has dead eyes.

I mean i get that everyone hated Childe or some still hate him but i gotta say he was my first 5 star and i got him while still doing the mondstat archon quest i loved using him he was so fun so when i finally met him in the Archon quest i was happy….. i mean we knew he was a Harbinger from the start but we still went along with him and he introduced us to Zhongli (which i hated until i played his story quest) I was sad we had to fight him but it was expected for him to betray us…… but any Childe interactions after his betrayal have been wholesome in my opinion….. I cant wait till he teaches us to dance haha….. Childe might not be my favorite character but he is definitely top 5

Man that line where Childe said in his letter that if he ever had the chance he'd quit his job and join us on our adventures, that line got me and so after I finished this story quest, I put childe in all my teams and he was the first one to reach friendship 10 well ahead of every other character. :)
