  • Hey Flight Fam!
    I got called for a 2-day trip on the last day on my reserve month! I am working number one on a domestic trip that lays over in Richmond, VA. I also took the time this trip to explain the perks and flexibility of the Flight Attendant work schedule.
    Thanks for joining me on my journey as a current Flight Attendant | Private Pilot to become an Airline Pilot! ✈️

    Hey Kevin, so I had my face to face interview last week and they offered me my CJO. I am making the jump from gate agent to FA with the same airline! Naturally a little nervous but very excited for what the future holds. 👍🏼💯✈️

    Hi Kevin ,
    I’m a little confused does, trading and dropping trips mean the same thing where another flight attendant has to pick up the trip so you are no longer responsible for that trip, or does dropping literally mean you dropped it and no longer have to work that trip and the company is now responsible to find someone to work that trip.

    Kevin,you mentioned your wife is an RN .Am a retired RN and I worked 12 hr shifts just like your wife. I worked seven on seven off,which worked like a charm for me.. At my former facility ,you the choice of a 4/3 or 3/3 shift.

    Thanks for that clear explanation. How tough is it to clear your schedule down to such low flying hours? Are you able to a 4 day down to a 3 day? How does dropping trips work? And are you able to offer extra money for people to pick up your trips?

    • @FlyingwithKev
      @FlyingwithKev  Před 2 lety

      It depends on a lot. How good your trips are to begin with, how busy are operations that month, etc. Short answer: some months absolutely and some month require more trading around. Yes, you can get 4 day to a 3 or depending on how good the trips is. Dropping a trip works if an other flight attendant picks up your trip. And some flight attendants have been known to do so.

    Is the “3 month line, then 1 month reserve” the permanent schedule for you? Or will you get to hold a line every single month when you’re like 10 or 20 years in?

    • @FlyingwithKev
      @FlyingwithKev  Před 2 lety

      3 months line and 1 reserve isn't necessarily permanent but it what flight attendants are on now up to 30 years on some months.
      This work status often depends on the state of the airline, man power available, union negotiations etc.
      We generally hope for permanent line months, even five years from now, but it is not always the case. The outlooks were very positive till the virus hit, now were trying to build back up again. It seems to be going well.

    I know Dallas it's very senior for American. Did you get Dallas out of the gate when you started or were you based elsewhere initially? Maybe you weren't even living there at the time.

    I would consider fa with American but they do not pay while in training when some others do. I don't see how they can do that without new trainees complaining but I guess if you signed up you were willing.

    • @FlyingwithKev
      @FlyingwithKev  Před 2 lety +2

      Yes, you don’t get paid for training, unfortunately. You do get started on FA “advance” pay system where you get paid your monthly advance for projected work hours of the month. That helped a little when I came out of training.

      That would likely not be able to be done starting out. You bid for schedules as an FA, and those just starting out have the lowest bidding seniority. It could be possible once established as a FA after 5 years or more of seniority.

    • @FlyingwithKev
      @FlyingwithKev  Před rokem +2

      the first year is a struggle for most FAs! Its around 30k to 45k depending on how much you work. It gets more comfortable year 5 when there is a significant pay increase. 50k t 75k depending on how much you work, of course.

      Hey Bryan,
      You can apply to any airlines, by going to their main website page. Your then scroll down to "hiring" or "careers".
      In the search, you can type flight attendant or flight service.
      I know American Airlines is hiring!

      @@JobitoCota1998 Reserve days-off are generally from 2 -5 days blocked off together then you will be available to be used for another 2-5 days, as an example. On line months you are off when your not flying a 1-4 day trip, just depends how much you want to work there.
