For people wondering why no trees near the leach field- the leach field is basically large perforated PVC pipes lying in gravel laid out horizontally connected to your septic tank in large field. The “grey water” leaks out and is treated by the bacterial breakdown. Because tree roots seek water they will grow towards these little perforations in the pipes and can grow into the pipes busting them causing septic back ups. Best to avoid anything thirsty or with deep roots near the system.

A large drift of the grass would be beautiful. Planting as many trees as you can will be smart as it takes longer for them to get growth. Trees will help anchor the property and you will be so glad in the future. You are on your way to establishing something wonderful.

Sparse trees are beautiful! They let you see through them to views behind them, create dappled or filtered sunlight, move in the breeze and create a contrasting and airy texture in the garden! It’s all about what you pair them with. 💕🌿

Oh Janey, go back and get more crystal grass and coneflower, carry it around that side of the circle with the fence back drop. If you stand at your front entrance and walk down that pathway, thinking of your future screening on the right near the redbud on the mound. The view of the grass and coneflower will just fill that whole space as your focal point at the end of the walkway. Place a statue at the end or large pot on a stand just in front of the fence.

One can never have too many coneflowers.
In our zone 5 they are a staple . When I started gardening, too many years ago to count, all that was available was pink and white. Love all the new varieties and have added 6 new colors, to try them, then will add more.
Prayers to all affected by the fires.

Believe me, guava trees are NOT sparse! They have lovely flowers and delicious fruit. They are considered to be evergreen but just know that they constantly drop leaves. I love our guava tree. Loved your pre tree shopping trip. Word to the wise…put the jacaranda tree far from the house, driveway or car. Those pretty flowers are sticky and will make a mess of your car and your family will be dragging them into the house on their feet. Did I mention they stain
That said they are beautiful! Plant it out front where you can enjoy the show from the patio and be a stunner from the road. Maybe plant outside the fence 😂 the center island would be good. I’m in Chico but came from San Diego and they are all over. Absolutely beautiful. You will love it…just be mindful of where you put it

You have inspired me to get something that’s blooming in the ground on a monthly basis (we’ll see how I do - I moved to an Australian equivalent to zone 10b/11, so there are some things that don’t like our humid hot summers. Finding things that bloom is a challenge, as I grew up in zone 9b, and prefer more of the types of plant that grew there, as opposed to just lots of green/variegated leaves!).

Think pineapple guavas are better as bushes in my opinion, very sparse and grow so slow, you need a thundercloud plum or purple leaf plum, the red foliage is so nice and they grow very fast, i planted one in a 5 gallon container and 3 years later it was 20 feet tall, and yes more crape myrtles. Don’t worry about the jacaranda trees, I live in zone 9b in socal and they’re everywhere around here there’s literally hundreds of huge ones. It’s worth the try for you.

I agree with Jason Multi trunk Crape Myrtles are prettier. Also, Multi trunk Strawberry tree “ Marina “ variety is the most beautiful variety of all Strawberry trees with the most beautiful trunks. Jacarandas, may have problem blooming well in cold areas, that is why they were marked as 10, but they will survive. It’s just the blooms are not as profusely as places like Santa Barbara or San Diego.

Try Trees Outlet in South Sac/ Elk Grove off of Gerber road, truly AMAZING selection of healthy trees, larger than you buy at Green Acres and for quite a bit less. Also owned by the sweetest most helpful husband and wife. I plan on going back now that it's cooler for my eastern redbuds ($125!) and at least 12 ft tall. They have every kind of redbud you could want. Got by Himalayan birch trees 12-15 ft tall for $85 each a few months ago and they're doing amazing. Huge selection of Japanese maples that I can't stop thinking about... I digress. Prices, size, and selection they are my go to.
