Synopsis:
Cheng Shao Shang is a young girl who was forced to grow up alone after most of her family had to leave to fight in a bloody war. Thus she becomes stubborn and untrusting. She fends for herself in a town populated by people like her, who have been left behind by the war.
One day, a talented and powerfu general named Ling Bu Yi comes to the town - and falls in love with her at first sight. He resolves to marry her, even though it will cause him no end of problems if he decides to pursue this union. She also warns him that she doesn’t trust him, and that her stubborn personality might not be suitable for the wife of a general. But Ling Bu Yi also has deep secrets, and there are facts about his true identity that even he does not know. Slowly, they begin to trust one another a little more - and start to investigate the truth about Ling Bu Yi’s early childhood, family, and real identity…

if you are thinking whether to watch this or not, trust me just go for it, it will not disappoint you even for a minute, no matter what genre you love, this will not be a wrong choice, the leads will make you fall in love with their chemistry, I just loveddddddddd it, it has literally raised my standards for choosing any drama to watch , and i think only few dramas satisfy this much with their plot and execution

Hmmm, zhao Lusi brings brings softness into her movies which makes enjoyable to watch however here comes a powerful young man who is not distracted at all but still developing his craft and very mesmerising to watch. Leo Wu is amazing to watch and I hope both of their collaboration makes another film for me to remember in future as I always remember Long Ballard.

Watching this after finished binging the latest modern drama of Wu Lei, Amidst a Snowstorm of Love. If you haven’t watched it, I urge you to watch it asap. No toxic or shameless green tea women or non-stop misunderstanding between main leads. It’s more like daily life of common people, but you’ll find yourself with tooth decay, lots of blushing, breath holding just by looking at Leo Wu Lei😂

Both the leads perfectly suits with each other. You are gonna love Zhou lusi acting here, cute innocent yet funny character.
The king and his wives are the most postive characters in the drama, which is a plus point to this unlike the other dramas that have royal struggle.
I’ve seen a lot of people hating on NN/SS character well not a ton but atleast 1/16th of people and it doesn’t really specify she a young young young teen girl we see how she’s abandoned and abused but no specification on how young she truly is and how older folk tend to forget how a lot of teens are not mature and don’t usually have their shot together even if raised well

i came back to this episode to get a better understanding of what shaoshang's 1st impressions were of ling buyi. i didn't notice at 1st viewing that she had misinterpreted his compliments for her to the parents.

I have watched a lot of dramas before but no one comes close to the pure love story of Zisheng and Shaoshang. Their courage to overcome their arduous hardships despite being all alone, their determination to forge their own paths and ultimately finding true love in each other make this drama so different and so good. It's hard to find a lady like Niao Niao who is resolute and who will go to any length to protect her loved one. And it's equally difficult to find a man like Ling Buyi who is not only powerful but also a righteous man and a loyal lover. Watching their love story is like witnessing an important truth - blessed are those who find true love, it makes all your miseries bearable, for you will have found your pillar of strength in the presence of your beloved.
This was my first Leo Wu drama and he nailed Ling Buyi's role with perfection. I really can't imagine anyone else who can express the pain and fire of Ling Buyi's character like the way Wu Lei did. You will witness the depth of his love as Zisheng, and that of his ruthlessness as general Ling. And Zhao Lusi brought life to the character of Niao Niao. You will laugh, cry, and resonate with her suffering. She is cute, mischievous and an inspiring and courageous lady.

I have watched many of these dramas. This is still my favorite. It has humor, a great love story, and a happy ending. The writing is very clever and the FL is written so well. All the actors do a great job. It is unique in capturing the best elements of this type of drama.
Love Like Galaxy
This series is just one hell of a masterpiece. Legit will hook you till the end. This drama made me laugh, cry, and swoon and just made me feel so much emotion. The acting and the way the plot was written are just top-notch. Shout-out to the writers, they really did a fantastic job. Also, I love the way the action scenes are executed. Like I've seen some cdramas with obvious CGI, so this one's are such a treat for my eyes. I love the good old physical action scenes with gore stuff, hehehe.
I legit never skipped an episode because there's no over the top draggy arc. I'm really fussy when I watch a series, I tend to just usually skim through some scenes if I find them redundant and draggy to the obvious point of just making the series longer. However, with this one, the love story of the main lead is perfectly written and interlaced with all the happenings of the series. There's no all of a sudden sub-plot out of nowhere. The disappearance and reappearance of characters are justified, and their thoughts that lead them to do certain actions are perfectly executed, too.
Trust me with this, all of the actors are phenomenal. They gave one hell of justice to the characters they portrayed. Aside from the chemistry with the main couple, this drama is full of chemistry with other actors, too. It showed all sorts of love like platonic, family, love for a country, friendship, and even deep passion for achieving one's goal!
Lemme just tell you my faves pair-ups:
Qiqi and Shaoshang??? Chaotic! The 2 cutie loyal bodyguards stressing about Ling Buyi's Love Life??? Cuties, but def a massive headache, too! Yuan Shen and Ling Buyi ganging up on Lou Yao??? Chef's Kiss! EMPEROR AND THE TWO EMPRESS??? Iconic! GRANDMA CHENG AND HER BETROTHAL GIFTS??? Immaculate! Emperor stressing about Ling Buyi's love life (again)??? WILL NEVER NOT BE FUNNY!
Zhao Lusi will never fail to get me to start to watch her dramas. So far, this is my 6th series of hers. (whether or not I've watched those series from beginning to end is a discussion for another time, all I can say is I've religiously watched 4 out of 6 of her series from start to end) She's just so talented and will always have a chemistry with her co-actors. With this series, Zhao Lusi yet again delivered. She perfectly executed her role of Cheng Shaoshang. The playful and cute acting of hers will never fail to give me uwu she's just genuinely adorable. I don't find her acting as an immature kid and playful character, annoying or cringy at all. And trust me when I say she can be with anyone. Her chemistry with those 3 boys is just amazing! Damn I think she can be shipped with a wall, and I'll still swoon.
Leo Wu just captured my eye with his role in this series. Fyi, I watched him for the first time with this series, and I'm hooked. (Spoilers) The way his eyes change to a complete madman when he tortured Prince Yong and Marquis Ling are just crazy and his fighting scenes damn he hottie. I got chills watching those scenes. It gave me the anti-hero/psycho man vibe, and instead of being turned off, I actually love his character more. His character as Ling Buyi is so complex and yet well-written. I love how he stayed true to himself and was still goal-driven despite the consequences. His love for Shaoshang didn't change his aspirations, and that just didn't even disappoint me for one bit, I think it's really attractive. I love a goal driven man. (Nvm, the fact that I bawled my eyes during that cliff scene)
I super love how the love story of Shaoshang and Ling Buyi was a slow burn. Well I guess more on Niao Niao part but it actually made sense given her personality and girl even had a previous fiancee (though I think it's more platonic the way it ended scarred her still.) And damn I'm whipped for a simp man aka General Ling. I just love how he's just been there since day 1 for her??? Like when he backed out when she was already betrothed but still went out of his way to give her a comfortable life like (SPOILER) when he requested the Emperor to acknowledge Shaoshang to not be looked down on by his rival's family??? Damn son I need you in my life! And when he got his chance, he immediately grabbed it and worked his way to enter Shaoshang's heart. Boi was so patient and understanding. Never once did he use the guilt tripping card on Niao Niao to earn her affection. If not for the chubby right-hand man of his, Niao Niao would never know man's sacrifices. Although he did really make a big mistake of underestimating Shaoshang's love for him. I know he doesn't want Shaoshang and her family to suffer but our girl did try her best too, to communicate that she is willing to go to hell with him no matter what and make sacrifices too.
I think the time skip was necessary since Shaoshang needs the time to grow up and discover herself. I understand her with that decision, too. Like gurl legit builds high walls to defend her heart but Ling Buyi was persistent (I ain't complain abt that)… A lot of dramas for her to finally understand how to love and trust Ling Buyi…A lot of self-realization to finally accept that being one minded with future husband doesn't mean she's restricted of freedom…She actually grew up a lot and learned so much, she listened to all the advice about love just to be left once again when she tried her best. That's just sad knowing her background and insecurities. That's legit her childhood trauma all over again. The only difference is this time. She did her best to make him stay with her and begged not to be abandoned. So yeah, all I want to say is back off haters! Those dumb ppl who hate on my poor baby girl saying her decision to break off isn't necessary. Just don't understand her character at all.
Anyways, moving on. The comedic scenes in this series are very much appreciated and are very needed since I've started episode 1. The first few episodes got me hooked cause of Shaohang antics and the drama of her family just made me howl in laughter. It well-balanced the amount of tears I've shed when I watched how the relationship between Shaoshang and her mother started. Mommy issues just never fail to make my heartache, maybe since it strikes close to home.
Cheng grandma, General Cheng, Cheng Bros, Qiqi, 15 years old mischievous Shaoshang, Concubine Yu, and of course my ult fave the Emperor just never fails to throw me into fits of laughter.
The emperor is such a mood and will never not be funny. His bickering scenes with Concubine Yue just stole the scenes every time. Massive respect, too, for Concubine Yue. She's such a badass character and in a way similar to Shaoshang, seeing an actually contented and chill Concubine is so refreshing. Anyways, back to the emperor cause he deserves a whole novel. I just want to know his reaction to our main couple all the time. He's so invested in them more than running the country, and honestly, who can blame him??? I badly love how he just overreacts to anything related to Ling Buyi, and that's just gold since Ling Buyi deserves all the love he can get. (Spoilers) Although, I have the same sentiment as the Emperor. He deserved to be there at their wedding , but him making a whole tantrum about missing it is also such a golden moment.
The only thing I kinda wish this series explored more is showing Shaoshang's intelligence and talents and how it can actually help the new Empire they're building. And of course, I NEED A DAMN SCENE OF THEM, HAPPILY MARRIED!!! I felt so robbed with that one. Like, I don't mind that there are times that I want to nudge their head to give me a cute kiss scene, but I can guess I can still live with it. But omg, they dare not to give me a grand wedding scene! Like after all those preparations, struggles, and time wasted!!!!! Emperor, please make a decree of their wedding so you and I can witness it!!!
So yeah, I guess that's all. I don't really want to occupy the whole comment section, so all I can say is watch this masterpiece and see for yourself!
Final Verdict/Rank: Beloved Series, Ultimate Favourite (Worthy to Rewatch for nth times)
Going back to watch Long Ballad makes you realize how much both the ML and FL actors have grown their skills in the past year. Both of their acting is considerably improved in these roles.

I think Zhao Lusi was amazing in The Long Ballad. I'd seen her play the villain in a previous drama and I was just blind to her potential. The way she protrayed Leyan in Long Ballad was astounding. The way she plays Shaoshang here is a whole 'nother personality. The way she plays Bai Fengxi in Who Rules the World is yet a different person altogether. I'm blown away.
I think Leo was great in The Long Ballad too...

After watching the whole drama I finally get why the scene at ( 21:27 )was so important to the General developing an interest in ShaoShang. *spoiler*: In this scene, she did exactly what he was planning to do with his own family - but on a minuscule level. The reason why he knows exactly why she is the best-suited woman for him (he says this several times after in the drama) is that he knows she would understand him when he later decides to take revenge on his 'father'. When she betrays her own uncle to the General, it's because she didn't need to care about familial relationships as they never cared for her. It's kinda like her taking revenge on her own family for treating her badly when her parents couldn't accompany or support her. The fact that her parents weren't in her childhood established empathy for the General because he practically didn't have his parents around him as well. So when ShaoShang took revenge on her family by selling her uncle's position, it made the General feel that there is someone in the world who would do the same thing to their family, ultimately making him feel like he doesn't have to be lonely during this journey to revenge. That's why her actions at the start of the drama were kinda like foreshadowing his actions in the end and perfectly explains why someone like Lingbuyi (the general) who has never shown any love interest to any other woman in his life would fall for someone like her.
...except he doesn't realize that Shao Shang is someone who doesn't care about consequences, which becomes a huge problem in their relationship later on. He compliments her father here, saying she's like his colleagues at the ministry of defense, meaning, she knows right from wrong and is doing what is right. Except he's wrong because, for her, that's not what this is about. As you said, her actions toward others are simply dependent on how they treated her. She doesn't necessarily care if her actions will effect the country or people not directly linked to her, etc. For example, she wanted to help the Crown Prince because the Empress had been kind to her. Didn't matter to her whether the CP was right for the throne or not. She also wanted to help the Crown Princess at one point because she felt she had been nice to her. Her agendas directly contradict Ling Buyi's own agendas.
@@divinearia1601 I guess that's like falling in love at first because of similarities and because she did something that he wanted to do. Except when he knows her better it becomes contradictory because he starts to realise that this part of her that he fell in love with sometimes arouses the opposite effect on himself. There are many times in the drama that she claims that he tries to change her to adapt to the palace, except that's also the part that he fell in love with. There are a lot of dramas that make the male lead randomly fall in love with the female lead literally just because they're the main characters. Like usually the male character is cold to everyone and suddenly one day, the female lead (who does exactly what the other people do) appears and she becomes special cos they argue back. But although their relationship might not be the best and most compatible one in terms of personality, I understand why Ling Buyi would become interested in her in the beginning.

One of the best dramas I’ve watched. It has everything. The storyline is great. The actors are superb. No need for graphics or fluff. I thought I was long but realized I looked forward for each episode. The director is an awesome job!!!

This is the best Chinese drama I’ve ever watched. It’s slow in the beginning, but please don’t skip any episodes for you to make sense of everything later on. The leads have the best chemistry. 10/10.

Just finished watching this wonderful drama. Not gonna lie, I cried a bucket of water and laughed myself almost dying. So many terrific comedy scenes and so many emotional scenes too. All the cast, not just the mains, but all the cast were freaking superb. My favs were Empress, emperor and consort Yue. Seriously I love this drama so much. I'll rewatch again after 6 months. Until then bye. Oh and to the new viewers, this drama is highly recommended. It's really worth it. Lusiyaaaaa😭😭😭😭 see you again in your next project 😍😍😍😍

I love how he is so observant in the final scene. He knows she's up on the deck, so he takes the time to compliment her for putting country ahead of family. I think he's already fallen for the person she appears to be without knowing her. He is very loyal to the Emperor so appreciates that. What I don't think he realizes is that she was really doing it for revenge on the grandmother's family for how badly she was treated.
He compliments her to her father, comparing her to his colleagues at the ministry of justice, thinking she took action for the reason of right vs wrong. And you're correct that it wasn't about that. She did it for revenge. Also, she completely misinterpreted his compliment and, in her head, turned it into something negative.
Ok. I am here just because none of the people in my circle are drama watchers. I started watching this because I had nothing else to do on that day. Man the leads got me hooked. What a chemistry. I fell for the ML pretty fast. I don't know what is it about that guy but man I fell for him pretty hard. I really like how their story unwinding

I know many dramas from Zhao Lusi. This girl is talented and nails every role. I love her so much. And Leo Wu. He is so handsome and an amazing actor. A factor why I waited two months for this drama, so I can enjoy the drama and their chemistry in one go.

I would never have watched this series if it had not been for the fact Actor Leo Wu (Long Ballad) and Actress Zhao Lusi (Romance of the Tiger and Rose) acted in this series. I have to admit I am SO glad I continued to watch the series! Its absolutely amazing!!

This truly is a great drama. Doesn’t have so many predictable tropes, shows how how even people with good intentions can hurt each other. Each character is is fully really realized and stays consistent to their own internal logic the whole time. It’s also a good teaching drama where you see FL forming her identity under the influence of good and bad role models and really listening when a great female role model has something important to teach.
Still can’t forget this series. I am about to rewatch it. Amazing chemistry from the two talented young stars Zhao Lusi and Wu Lei 💜
I regret that I started to watch this drama 😢 I should have waited until it was finished and binged watched this. Waiting for the next chapter is pure torture. This is so hilarous and I love CSS character. The actress, the director and the screenwriter has done a fantastic job. Those who will watch this later I envie them for getting to watch this without interruption. So far the first eight epi had me laughing and empathising with the FL character and I can't wait to see the development of her romance with LB 😍😍😍😍😍

I just finished this series. I had to come back here to leave a comment. This is one of the most beautiful historical series I have seen. Not just as a C-Drama, but as a drama per se. Beautiful story, great acting, direction, photography and everything....
I am a new entry to K/C Dramas... I watched Whirlwind girl 1 recently, and Leo Wu caught my eye. So i was looking for his more recent works when I came across this... What brilliant acting by him, Zhao Lusi and every actor involved. The chemistry between the ML and FL is so subtle and yet so powerful. They didn't need bucketloads of intimate scenes to express the depth of love between the characters. I am also amazed by the character development and relationship development through the series... The emperor and mother-in-law deserve a special mention for their comic relief.
This is a complex plot with no unnecessary heartache. Also I love that the two aides of Leo Wu are not shown to die in battle. Happy ending in all ways... :)
I will probably be watching this again soon. And really hoping that the lead actors pair up for another series soon ❤️
Wu lei also has another drama called The long ballad you will not regret watching that either i strongly recommend that one ❤.

@@jayt8 well in chinese historical dramas there are Goodbye my princess, Ashes of love, Immortal samsara, Legend of yunxi, Love between fairy and devil, and Love and redemption (i didn’t watch love and redemption yet but i know for sure it’s good). And in modern chinese dramas there are Lighter and princess and Put your head on my shoulder. (And now i am watching more dramas that are in my to be watched list). 😄💝

Just finished binge watching all 56 episodes these past 2 days instead of studying for my finals. I guess I got lucky and found this drama just as it finished bc i can’t imagine waiting for each episode to be uploaded. I haven’t enjoyed watching a cdrama in so long. Definitely recommend everyone to watch this. This drama/plot was right up my alley and i’m surprised it took me this long to find out about it. Chemistry between all the actors and actresses were spot on. Whoever did the casting needs a raise. This drama isn’t called a drama for nothing, the storyline was long but I didn’t find it boring at all. My emotions were all over the place, they had the perfect amount of comedy mixed with romance and melo. Adding this to my list of all-time favourite dramas for sure. Definitely need to rewatch this slowly once i’m done with my finals.

LLB spots CSS peeking and pretty much "mansplains" it as he is departing the cheng home "country before family!" but CSS misinterprets his praise because her filters have been corrupted due to abuse and neglect. she's not accustomed to affection, compliments, flattery or praise for anything.
He didn’t fall here. But she made a strong impression because she gave up her uncle and possibly because she was smart enough to realize that harboring the uncle would beworse for the family and reason and justice are more important.

For those of you now embarking on this Journey, I would like to day it's well worth the wait. There are 56 episodes which I watched on another platform because I just couldn't wait for CZcams.
My review: Zhoa Lusi was once again at her best. Her character was at times a bit infuriating but given the life she lived it was understandable. This was my first time watching the ml and I must say he went all out here. Though not the best looking of the 3 suitors he has a subtle charm that sucks you in. Every episode was substantial to the plot and it was one of the first c dramas I came across that had no major plot holes. Issues were wrapped up quickly and the few plot twists surprised me. I loved that there was no unsubstantiated forgiveness. Meaning no one trying to kill a whole family and then being forgiven. Every villain paid the price for their evil deeds. The directors came back and ensured that even the machinators paid.
There were some really sad scenes. Both ml and fl turned on the water works perfectly. I can go on and on but instead I will advise you guys to watch it. Great story

She has great chemistry with all her male leads. Such a versatile, outstanding actress. Leo Wu is very handsome & am glad his first real kissing scene is with Zhao Lusi. What an outstanding performance as General Ling Buyi! Hat's off to the producer, director, scriptwriter/novel writer, the whole cast of character & translators for giving us an amazing , entertaining drama! Their love really reaches up to the galaxies!🤩🤩🤩

I was commending both oriental cultures for their ability to convey a story without making the sole purpose of the show about the intimate relationships shown in the story line. Ok, I did not realize this until my second watch through. LB always references her being sick, having a weak body, not to get sick again until around episode 20 something. I always wondered what sickness he was talking about. I just realized it was from the first time he "saw" her and the maid referenced that she had been sick for so long. You think you know how caring LB is and then you notice another brilliant detail like this. ♥️♥️

I actually started with this then started watching _The Long Ballad_ because of Wu Lei while I was waiting for this to slowly air. So glad I watched TLB. It was so good! I'm rewatching my favorite parts of that still(and this as well) because I haven't really been able to move on. Both Ling Buyi and Ashile Sun are such strong characters, and Wu Lei nailed both. I've become such a huge fan and plan to follow his future projects. I'm currently watching his Crossfire series even though that kind of gaming isn't really my thing. Lots of action in that, and you just cannot have Wu Lei without awesome action scenes!
