How to make your own eco friendly & SEAMLESS t-shirt yarn at home by recycling waste fabric

  • I love to knit & crochet using t-shirt yarn and I quite often re-cycle my own using surplus or waste fabric. I DO NOT love having seams in my t-shirt yarn though and so contrary to many of the tutorials out there I do it a different way. Have a look and see what you think. You don't need to stop at making yarn from t-shirts, what else could you use, using these methods?
Instead of seams I have soft folds of fabric and I either join with a couple of tiny sewing stitches or I join the new yarns as I would with any knitting or crochet project, leaving tails on the reverse of the work and then weaving in at the end. I then have control over the final look and I don't have big lumps of seam or knotted/pulled joins to try to disguise. It's a preference thing definitely but let me know what you think in the comments below.

Thank you for making this video!
Every tutorial said you need seamless shirts, but most of my old shirts had seams and I was looking for a way to get past that.
    Thank you so much!

What about rounding the 4 corners first then doing the 'maze' style but in an oval, then you wouldnt need to go back and round any more corners??

Thank you! This is so great for using up clothes with shapes that don’t fit the T-shirt/tube shape.

This is amazing, thank you! I bought a cheap T-shirt from dollar tree and it ripped at every seam When I was pulling it! 😫

Thanks, very helpful. I don't know if it's just me, but I couldn't see what you were doing on the sides because the frame cut them out.

    What about shirts with prints?

Wouldn't be much smarter and faster to round the corners as you're cutting?
