Okay so the NCT thing was actually super complicated to me and I just recently began understanding it, but pretty much a simple way of explaining it is NCT (group) is the school and NCT 127, NCT U, AND NCT DREAM (sub groups) are the classes in the school. So the members are the students, so there can be one member that's in all three subgroups, and another that's in two, or even a member thats in none. It depends. This concept is a rotating-merging one; where all the members are supposed to go around in temporary subunits. However, this concept was one SM Ent has been trying to bring since Super Junior 05, but it failed because ELF (name of the fandom of Super Junior) wanted to keep Super Junior as it was so the company dropped the "05" and left it as Super Junior with a count of 15 members merged as one with subunits SuJu-H, SuJu-T, SuJu-KRY, SuJu D&E and SuJu-M. Super Junior-M being the ones promoting in China. Group SHINee was supposed to take over one way or another on this rotating concept, but the company decided against it thus passing it onto the next. The next being EXO. EXO had a very similar concept, or something close enough to what Super Junior 05 (but only 6 in both subunits) was meant to be, but only they were divided as EXO-K and EXO-M who as a whole is supposed to be EXO. Which it also failed to be a rotating-slash-merging concept group because three Chinese members of the official EXO-M line up left. There's only one Chinese member left from the original EXO-M and now they promote often as EXO instead of the subunits, but they chart in their subunits rather than EXO as a whole (confusing, I know). So now, after all these years of trying to bring the concept alive and make it work, there's NCT with literally a battalion of kids (18 so far) in rotating-merging subunits. NCT is the main group (also referred to as NCT 2018, but that changes every year so next year they will be 2019 and so on). They have 3 sub-groups: NCT 127, NCT Dream and NCT U NCT 127 is the original subgroup and has 10 members (the 127 refers to Seoul's longitude). NCT dream has 7 members and is based off of age. So when the members in that group become adults they can no longer participate in that subgroup. NCT U (which is this one) is the only constantly rotating subgroup. The members in this subgroup depend entirely on the album/song, so the amount of members can change every time. Also members can be in all sub groups depending the album, for example Mark (the rapper who did the clappy thingy at 3:25 ) has been in all three subgroups (he still is in 127 and dream (although he's leaving soon because he's too old now) and was in U for this album). NCT is the main group (also referred to as NCT 2018, but that changes every year so next year they will be 2019 and so on).
They have 3 sub-groups: NCT 127, NCT Dream and NCT U
NCT 127 is the original subgroup and has 10 members (the 127 refers to Seoul's longitude).
NCT dream has 7 members and is based off of age. So when the members in that group become adults they can no longer participate in that subgroup.
NCT U (which is this one) is the only constantly rotating subgroup. The members in this subgroup depend entirely on the album/song, so the amount of members can change every time.
Also members can be in all sub groups depending the album, for example Mark (the rapper who did the clappy thingy at 3:25 ) has been in all three subgroups (he still is in 127 and dream (although he's leaving soon because he's too old now) and was in U for this album).

wayv is the newest unit of nct they are all chinese, the goal with wayv was to spread their brand but dude to complications wayv had to distance themselves from the nct name, the members on wayv consist of already existing members of nct ten, winwin, lucas, kun and new members hendery, yangyang and xiaojun they debuted at the beginning of this year with the chinese version of “regular” which was originally an nct 127 song they currently only have 1 mini album called “take off” with the title track “take off” there hasn’t been much activity music wise since the albums release so that’s all i can really say about them

nct u is a rotational group with no set members, they switch out the members constantly the only “fixed” member being taeyong as he is in almost all the songs released by them. nct u debuted in 2016 with the song “7th sense” preformed by taeyong, mark, ten, jaehyun, and doyoung, they’ve since released an album “nct 2018 empathy” with a song from each unit (minus wayv) along with 9 additional songs by various members of the groups mentioned above along with “black on black” which was preformed by all 18 original members
nct is a mess and sm has treated them so poorly, they don’t manage or promote them properly, but they’re so incredibly talented i really hope sm gets their heads out of their ASSES and fixes these issues (also please make dream a fixed unit before i have a stroke)

Ok for yall new to the fandom or just a new fan of nct , nct 2018 is basically a large group with mini groups in it , for example nct 127 , nct u and nct dream are the mini groups in between this large group. But next year its going to be called nct 2019 , which will still consist of nct 127 , nct dream and nct u but they will most likely add new sub units too. Just to clear some confusion, trust me its confusing, but because I've been a fan of these boys since they debuted ive easily learned about them , but once you are in this fandom its going to be hard to get out , mainly because of their awesome talents , visuals and plain cool personalities.
Just know that NCT has a total number of 18 members. U don't realize that they have so many members until you see them all walk in at the same time. But, they are broken into NCT 127, NCT Dream, and NCT U

NCT 127 is used to be a 7 member group but as the years go by it became 9 and it was said that it was a permanent group which means no more members will be added but for some reason a new member was added for regular so now they were 10. next sub unit, NCT U now nct u is a rotational group which mean every song they will release will have different members according to which if they fit in the style of the music or not. thats why their boss has 8 members but the other nct u song called baby dont stop only has 2 members. next unit and the last, is NCT DREAM. dream is a unit on where all teenage members join in a range from 14-19. when a member turns 20, they leave/graduate from the group and can no longer participate in comebacks. their oldest, MARK just graduated since he turned 20 already now there are 6 members left in dream. But, when members leave, some will be added. Same like nct u, some come and some go. NCT is limitless meaning there will be endless members. They will keep adding members as the years go by. Nct is a unique group. Nct stands for Neo Culture Technology And their group concept is that they will always add new members or debut new members into the group. Nct so far has three sub units groups NCT U, NCT 127, and NCT DREAM. Sub units meaning that they create they have their own music/album and mvs within the groups they are in. Nct dream consist of teenagers. Bc of nct unique concept, they do keep changing the people in each sub unit. For example, if one person is in Nct dream, for their next comeback or album, they could go into nct 127 or any of the other groups. If I’m not mistaken, nct currently has 18 members in total. As to the number of members u can see why they split up into sub units. But their concept can be confusing so I do suggest if u guys can watch a vid explaining the group’s concept!! And can you guys also react to nct u 7th sense too!! It’s one of their songs they debuted w/ in 2016!!

So the whole group all together is NCT but it has 18 (I think) members and because it would be hard making music, dancing, being paid, and just all of them trying to get along they are split into 3 sub units( NCT U, NCT127, NCT DREAM) they're not all different members because one member of nct could be in all three units. I know its kind hard to keep track of and I barely know any of their names. But some of the members of NCT 127 are also in NCT U.

So let me explane you about NCT. NCT is a group that has unlimited number of members. So they can add members whenever there is some trainee in company that shows a great potencial to be an idol. There are subunits in NCT (NCT 127, NCT U, NCT DREAM)
NCT 127 now has 10 members and they don't change members, and people who join NCT 127 are people who have some unique style
NCT U doesn't have special members, so they combine whatever members they want for a song, like for one song there can be 2 people ( Baby don't stop) or 5, 6 members...
NCT DREAM has 7 members, and this unit has age limit, and it is 19 years old, so whenever someone turn 19 they will be 'graduatin '
It's really uniq group, and NCT has a powerful vocals but SM company doesn't really know how to show it, it's such a shame.
