    Hello Seth,
    It's nice to see that you're doing well and looking great. I have a Denon AVRX4400H with a proper 9.2 setup, and nowadays, most of the movies we watch are from various streaming services. However, the quality of the audio isn't respectable. Without installing more speakers, do any of the newer receivers do a better job with the poor audio quality of the streaming services? I'd upgrade to a better AVR if the audio quality were improved with streaming services. Do you have any suggestions

    • @airetheaterdesigns
      @airetheaterdesigns  Před 5 měsíci +2

      HEY! What's happening? Hope all is good. Regarding sound with streaming, this is a common complaint. I would focus more on the quality of the speakers and the speaker layout/set-up more than anything to improve the audio. Feel free to give me a call as I may type a novel to go over suggestions.

      The front and center are Klipsch G-28 and the celling are Klipsch CDT-5800-C and the sides and rears are R-5650S and Klipsch 12’ sub. The thing is, it sounds fantastic on blue ray for that reason I thought that perhaps the streaming services were not providing the same audio experience as w/ blue ray. Since you didn’t immediately mention an issue w/ the receiver I suppose it’s safe to assume the receiver is fine.@@airetheaterdesigns

      That's wacky. I JUST talked to a buddy yesterday that had someone he found on-line that fixed his old legacy stereo system.
      You'll need to Google around a bit. Depending on the age of the gear, you may be able to do it through a manufacturer-provided servicer or through someone local that works on legacy stuff.

    I'm a fellow dealer in San Diego and Cross paths with you periodically at the local distributor. I'll say hi next time I see you. 2022-2023 was an absolute nightmare for HDMI issues with Marantz receivers. We chalked it up to chip issues with shortages over those years. Cinema series has seemed to fix this. Great to see other professional installers that know their stuff in the area.
    On the code set thing though, we didn't have that issue with Control4. Full, complete, easy, and reliable IP control. Actually probably the most reliable we use.

    • @airetheaterdesigns
      @airetheaterdesigns  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Were your IP codes working for discrete DSPs such as All Channel Stereo, Dolby, etc.? They weren't for us (they were toggles that would toggle the DSP category). We tried with IP through Total Control and IR/hex with URC. The hex codes listed from SU didn't work, though they said they did (they never tested them). Inputs and power worked fine.
      After bothering Sound United for 2.5 years on this subject, they recently sent us the latest code list from Japan and these finally work. This was just a couple months ago.
      See you around!

    • @cbane
      @cbane Před 2 měsíci

      @@airetheaterdesigns Yup. Control4 has always had reliable IP Marantz/Denon drivers with discrete DSP. Probably the most reliable IP controlled device we offer and full direct discrete DSP modes.

    • @airetheaterdesigns
      @airetheaterdesigns  Před 2 měsíci

      We'll have to compare notes next time I see you. Their hex codes definitely didn't work for 60-70% of their DSPs over the last number of years and their November release only fixed about half of these. If you look at their latest release of codes, Dolby, DTS and THX are 90% listed as unavailable for all of their newest receivers. We've been able to get by now but prior to this, the codes didn't work with RTI and URC and they are the same hex/RC-5 codes that are supposed to work with all models.@@cbane

    • @cbane
      @cbane Před 2 měsíci

      @@airetheaterdesigns I'll introduce myself next time. Ask Jason @ V for my contact info if you want to reach out and chat. Haven't used IR (or needed to use hex strings) or 232 on Marantz in probably 7-8 since becoming a C4 dealer. 100 percent IP, certified, and rock solid with power, source, DSP etc. They also have modes "music" "movie" that toggle DSP modes accordingly but direct discrete as well. Marantz has been our go to since they allowed power on with input removing the on sequence delay 10-15 years ago.

    • @airetheaterdesigns
      @airetheaterdesigns  Před 2 měsíci

      The toggles work but not discretes for what I listed earlier. If you look at Marantz's chart from Japan it literally says that codes don't exist for Dolby, DTS, etc. for their entire new receiver line-up. When you want the client's system to go directly to 5 channel stereo or Dolby, these specific codes didn't work. I think what you are doing (having toggles for DSPs to cycle through the specific modes) and what we do (have specific DSPs so the systems ALWAYS go to Dolby, 5 chanel stereo, etc. are different. This isn't a problem with Yamaha or many other manufacturers@@cbane

    This is the first time I ran into you guys. pretty good review. I think you are right about the Marantz. I was searching for a receiver to replace my 750 Yamaha when I audition a Marantz, Yamaha and Denon at a Best Buy store. I almost bought the Marantz because it sounded better than the Yamaha. But the Yamaha was cheaper and the flagship receiver was closing out so I bought the 3070. Not a bad receiver but not as detailed as the Marantz. I had a Yamaha 2200 years ago that was more detailed than this one.

    • @airetheaterdesigns
      @airetheaterdesigns  Před 10 měsíci +2

      Thanks for stopping by! The 3070 was a great receiver. Before they changed their nomenclature, their 30XX series sounded REALLY good for the last 12 years or so.
      P.S. Your 3070 should sound better than the RXV2200 that you had. It has superior DtoAs and a better amplifier section. Play around with YPAO and see if you can get that 3700 sounding better as it may sound smoother right off the bat when comparing the sound signature to the 2200. You might like a "crisper" sound and YPAO and settings can give you that.

    • @airetheaterdesigns
      @airetheaterdesigns  Před 4 měsíci

      If you aren't EVER going to add a center, rears, etc. you may want to consider a 2 channel/2.1 set-up and run the HDMI directly to the TV. You'll get more audio bang for the buck with this sort of set-up. Marantz and Yamaha have these sort of options.
      Arguably for some, today's calibration programs (Audyssey, YPAO, etc.) are more important for multi-channel and don't do a lot for two-channel set-ups. You can improve 2 channel sound tremendously by following our "How to make your speakers sound better" video.

    Thought it was interesting - not bad, just interesting - that when you talk about Marantz’s Audyssey room correction setup, the image you show is a Denon (I might be a #denonfanboy, but I’m 75 years old, so not much “boy” left!) receiver with THEIR Audyssey room correction setup on top (yes, I know it’s all the same company now). I’m not sure, but I thought Denon had Audyssey first, some years ago. As for #denonfanboy, I’ve always thought Denon was quite comparable in terms of performance, but at a better price point. How do you feel about that?

      Thanks for stopping by. We will probably do a Denon vs etc. review in the near future here, depending on funds and free time. In comparing Denon vs some of the others, you kind of have to dive into the weeds to see some of the differences. Ex: Some forums have claimed "The RXA6A ($2500) tests the same as the Denon 3800 ($1699) so there is no reason to buy Yamaha". They neglect to mention that the Yamaha has a more robust power supply, bigger capacitors, a better damping factor and weighs 14 pounds more. Think these differences equate to sound quality? I do.
      It really costs all of these manufacturers the same to make this stuff and we don't make any more selling one brand vs another SOOOOO should one think that you get a special value with Denon vs Marantz, Yamaha, etc.? I think not. I would buy the receiver to meet your needs and budget and know that spending more does equal a better receiver. Do you need/want these better elements? That's up to you.

      Did you run calibration on the Onkyo? This could possibly account for the difference in sound that you are hearing. I agree that today's receivers have become more similar than different over the years.

      @@airetheaterdesigns I did run the Onkyo room correction. Having difficulties Dirac. The sound difference was noticeable prior to running the correction program.

      Not a bad idea and we may do that at some point. This was more to point out the pros-and-cons of Yamaha vs Marantz so people could differentiate between the lines.

      I have nothing but nightmares with Yamaha and my Xbox Series X. Never outputs the audio correctly and there is always massive de-sync too with the audio, I have tried everything to resolve it and ended up unplugging it from the receiver and not bothering.

    Seriously, if you're going to do a review please do some homework before you start making jokes. And if you make a joke bring put some facts behind it and not just kate the piss. You're supposed to be informing the viewers.
    Whilst other companies did not put inferior chipsets in their equipment when there was a shortage, D&M compromised quality for availability.
    Please God just do some homework before you put a review out.

    • @airetheaterdesigns
      @airetheaterdesigns  Před rokem +3

      If you're referring to our segment about Covid availability, we did plenty of homework. We reached out to Yamaha over and over and over asking for ETAs, scheduling, etc. Instead of acting like Sonos and Marantz which actually had timelines and calendars that they sent to dealers, Yamaha did NOTHING. When they were presented with the knowledge that we got weekly updates from Sonos, that we got rough timelines from D&M, etc. and asked if they could do the same...THEY DID NOTHING.
      That's not taking the piss...that's frustration based on 2 years of a total lack of communication.
      Covid was tough for everyone in manufacturing but some did a much better job than others.

      I’ve heard the Cinema 40 has better bass than the Cinema 50
      Also, do you know if the Cinema 40 has the same HDMI handshake issue for Xbox X that the Cinema 50 has?!
      I know the Yamaha is really good with connectivity and auto switching when turning on a device

      @@GizmoDuck34 As of this second, we would take Marantz over Yamaha re: HDMI switching and handshakes. We have had a number of issues with the new Yamaha models (one was last Wednesday) where the handshake isn't being made and you need to turn off/on the TV or receiver to get it to show picture. We have seen this mainly with Sony TVs so we are trying to assess if this is a Yamaha thing or a Sony thing. We think Yamaha but stay tuned.

    I have a few awesome Yamaha Receivers from the DSP-A1 to RX-V1 to RX-V9,to Aventage-A2030. They all have many features, sound great and have been reliable. The one problem with them is if the remote goes bad you are basically screwed especially since Logitech stopped making their infinitely programable remotes. Yamaha does not sell replacement remotes as far as I know.

    • @airetheaterdesigns
      @airetheaterdesigns  Před 3 měsíci +2

      Nice! I sold the 2nd or 3rd DSP-A1 in the US (I wanted to be the 1st, but one of our other sales guys beat me to it) when I worked for Dow Stereo close to 30 years ago! You shouldn't have a problem getting a remote, either OEM or a generic one. Check with Yamaha and their parts department on Monday. They should be able to steer you in the right direction.
      NOTE: URC remotes work great for Yamaha receivers, regardless of the vintage.
