It's possible that the "venison before this" is actually venison, a good burger patty has good quality meat AND a lot of added fat to help hold it together and keep it from drying out while frying
Adding on to what you said. Maybe it was seasoned too much or too little, with spices you can remove the gamey taste or run with it and truly accentuate those flavors. With good Indian foods, one thing is consistent "spices" there's a reason why it's considered a spice capital.

Im not being a nit picker but a prawn is in the same main group /under crustaceans as crabs and lobsters. Prawns belong to the sub-order Dendrobranchiata and belong to the family of marine life called Decapod crustaceans. The reason why you might of tasted the venison differently as different cuts will give you different flavours, kind of like when you eat beef cheeks, rump or silverside you will taste a different flavour between each one.
