Christy Huff, MD, FACC is a cardiologist who resides in Fort Worth, Texas. She attended medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas where she graduated Alpha Omega Alpha in 2001. She completed an internal medicine residency at Washington University in St. Louis in 2004. Her cardiology training was completed at U.T. Southwestern in 2008, with a focus in advanced cardiovascular imaging and noninvasive cardiology. She was in private practice as a cardiologist in Fort Worth from 2008-2011. Following the birth of her child, she made the decision to become a stay at home mom.
Dr. Huff is currently experiencing benzodiazepine withdrawal firsthand after she was prescribed Xanax for insomnia related to a major health crisis in 2015. After developing concerning symptoms and receiving no answers from her primary care doctor and a prominent neurologist, she began to research benzodiazepines and discovered her symptoms were consistent with benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome. With the help of a local psychiatrist, she slowly tapered over 3 years and 3 months off of benzodiazepines using Valium. She completed her taper on March 15, 2019. Christy’s personal experience has led her to realize the dangers of these drugs and the severity of the benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome, neither of which were emphasized during her medical training. She is an advocate of better education of physicians regarding the dangers of benzodiazepines and how to safely taper patients off these drugs, and stronger regulation of the prescribing of benzodiazepines. Dr. Huff is the Director at Benzodiazepine Information Coalition (BIC).

It's great that she had the money to hire a nanny. Many of us don't. I am a widow with three sons aged 10, 14 & 15 years old, my brothers no longer live in our city, I stopped talking to my mum a few days ago because she says these withdrawals are all in my head. She literally said "Emily, you're bringing everyone around you down. The birds are singing, the sun is shining, focus on the positive things". My teenaged sons stuck up for me & calmly told her that I am doing my best & holding our household together well considering the physical & emotional hell I'm in & that I don't bring anyone down. It's lonely & terrifying & I don't know where to turn at this point.
Reach out to Other Benzo survivors to come visit u
How is this drug still legal anywhere? Getting off of this drug has been pure hell! Thank you so much for the video. Very informative. God bless both of you!
The morning terror is the absolute worst for me. I can't love like this.
All prescribing Dr's need to prescribe this video along with that first bottle. Great stuff!
They shouldn’t be prescribed PERIOD!!
RIP DR Christy Huff ❤
Christy is an Angel, how did she survive benzo w/d and cancer! A warrior indeed
Hi Shana!! Sandy here, hi sweety!
@@smilemor-phony5964 Hello dear friend I LOVE you!
@@NoName-pu5ls - I love you more!! Just having morning coffee & cig getting to finish reading 'Blood Medicine: Blowing the whistle on one of the deadliest prescription drugs ever.' Excellent book, but they're mistaken, Klonopin, Ativan, Xanax are the deadliest prescription drugs ever, far as I'm concerned, not Procrit.
@@smilemor-phony5964 I agree totally with you. It's indescribable and inhumane this Insidious poison.
I agree. No matter how hard I could not break free. It is good to see some of us making it. Gives us all hope.
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH
Thank You both so much for Supporting Our Community. You Are Beautiful People. Christy, You Are Simply Amazing. One Day at A Time. I can tell you Both That In Time You Will Be 110% of Who You Were Previously At Your Best!
Use benzo "buddies" sparingly. Only use it to create a taper plan if you have a terrible doctor that won't allow a slow taper. It's a cesspit of rumination.
Had some prick kept popping up saying first stage 2 years complete insomnia. Fkg a hole. Would love to meet that person sometime . I wouldn't be able to say what I'd do to that sick individual..stay away from those sites.
I feel like this channel is very similar in that regard. There’s some good stuff on here, but it feels overshadowed by doom, gloom, worse case scenarios, comment sections full of horror stories, etc. I feel like that can make things a lot worse for people who are already afraid to taper. Like the videos on this channel of the poor lady who suffered from severe akathisia. People will watch that and think, “Oh my gosh! That’s what’s going to happen when I taper?”.
I honestly can’t tell if this channel and Benzo Buddies does more harm than good by ruminating on all the horror stories. There are many other positive and successful stories from other people on CZcams that offer hope and encourage positivity.
I think it would be more helpful to focus on the success stories, and body’s ability to heal, rather than ruminate on the worse case scenarios, which risks painting the picture that that is what the norm is for everyone who tapers off benzos.
R.I.P. Dr. Huff.
Great interview. Thank you James and Christy for doing this interview!!!
From what I hear, I’m happy you stepped out. I’m on BB. Old Sal. Two months off.
Thank you
Nailed it!
I'm so proud of you Diane👏

Horrible FEAR Disabled Nausea & EXTREME DEPRESSION
You ain't alone.
Don't become consumed by your shadow.
Ashton manual, the problem is finding a Dr who will actually help you do this
Can side effects and withdrawal cause aggressive dementia?
Would love to talk to this dr this is what I’m going through with lunesta 😢
Lunesta is also a Benzodiazepine!!! Google Dr Michael E BOHAN in Virginia Beach ! He has a Benzo Tapering Workshop & is a BENZO EXPERT !!!
Any advice for me ???
Why is nobody responding to comments/questions? If you upload a video then you should address people’s concerns.
Did doctor find a solution for your dry painful eye.
What would happen if a massive global supply chain disruption occured. Hundreds of millions of people all going in to withdrawal crisis at once? Doesn't bear thinking about!
How best to ween off
