    My "friend" or whatever holds her poor gerbils by their tails and says, "That's how you're supposed to hold them." I keep telling her it seriously injures them and can even cause death! I'm really worried about her gerbils and don't know what to do..

    • @PetConnectionInternational
      @PetConnectionInternational  Před 11 měsíci +1

      I would explain to them about tail degloving (where the skin and muscle detach from the bone) it's extremely painful, you can also share this link which explains a little about it: www.gerbilwelfare.com/do-gerbils-tails-fall-off/
      The RSPCA and blue cross also talk about how they should never be held by their tails, even if you Google "holding gerbils by their tails" a whole massive list of websites come up all of them explaining how dangerous it is, maybe it would be worth showing her some of those, and if all else fails, Google "gerbil tail degloving" and show her the images, I'm not generally a fan of shock tactics, but if the explanation alone isn't enough to deter her, seeing it may get it to hit home just how brutal the injury actually is, it would be the equivalent of us having the skin and muscle ripped off of our fingers, its really extremely unpleasant and painful

      @@PetConnectionInternational Thank you! I will try to help her figure out that it's really bad to hold them like that! If she doesn't stop, I'll try talking her into rehoming them or giving them to me to give them the proper care they need.

    So since Gerbils eyes are better then rats,hamsters and guina pigs.
    Then there's no excuse if a gerbil bites.
    Meaning the person/gerbil expert can't blame the bitting on poor vision,like they do with rats,guina pigs and hamsters.

    • @PetConnectionInternational
      @PetConnectionInternational  Před 4 měsíci

      Their vision isn't very good, like cats, while they're able to see better in low light, it's likely that their daylight vision is weaker as a result, cats can't really make out still objects very well, especially not when they're close to their faces (that's when their tactile senses from their whiskers take over), they can generally see moving objects better, but even then a small finger coming towards them could also look like a hand holding a small snack, so some bites could very well be due to poor vision, especially in those with red eyes

    Hey so I have cats and gerbils my gerbils are in my room and I lock my cats out so i can keep my gerbils safe. But my cats got in my room when i was gone because i accidentally left my door cracked, my cat terrifed my gerbils and they dont trust me anymore, when my cats did this i had them for a week and a half. They used to trust me they would be out even when i had my hand it their tank. how do i gain their trust back i already feel so bad.

      @PetConnectionInternational  Před rokem +1

      Awh I'm sorry, they probably just got a fright from the cat, I think if you just take your time and start again with taming they should come around again 🙂

      @@PetConnectionInternational thank you and about bedding is there cheap bedding that is safe and is good for burrowing?

    • @PetConnectionInternational
      @PetConnectionInternational  Před rokem +1

      @@bri2735 I personally prefer to use pro-rep hemp mixed with LOADS of hay to give it enough structure for burrowing without being too dusty. I find the really cheap beddings to be extremely dusty, lots of people suggest megazorb (UK) but I find it's absolutely awful for dust and it stinks, you can buy kaytee in bulk on Amazon but I don't like to use it by itself because it gets very dusty, I've linked my favourites in the description if you wanted to check them out 🙂

      They need to stay separate for at least a week, but some can take longer, you need to watch out for the positive signs. There's also a printable version of the guide available to download in the video description 🙂
