    I got myself 14X Pro OLED one last month. I have to say I'm very satisfied. It's got i7 12650H and 3050Ti GPU, and costs about 1,400 USD. With 16GB DDR5 RAM and 512GB SSD, it's perfect for office employees and creatives as well as programmers. The screen is really good too. The finger print button is also great. Asus Dial is also really cool with certain applications.
    Highly Recommended.

    Honestly after watching reviews and reading a lot of stuff I ended up deciding on a Thinkpad p15s w/ R7 5850 and 32 Gb RAM. I don't play as much and have a desktop anyway, for the rare occasion when I travel I'm happy to play 5+ years old games in lower settings if required. With the market being as it is most good things are sold out, at least I will have the 1 single notebook keyboard in the universe that is bearable. Would have liked the 16:10 of the Legion, but honestly the keyboard looks like crap and the numpad would be so annoying, the actual useful part of the keyboard not being centered because of it. So just gave up on the GPU. Hell, I'll play a mud again like 20 years ago. My mind renders betters stuff than video cards.

  • @mk-wz2sh
    @mk-wz2sh Před 2 lety +10

    Title mistake: it is Vivobook PRO 16X.
    I would also emphasize that USB-C in this Asus does not support PowerDelivery (only in Intel model) and does not support Display Port. In addition, it is not possible to disable iGPU - HDMI (the 10-year 1.4 standard) is not connected directly to the GPU, which in the case of rendering larger projects, e.g. in Blender, prevents the use of GPU acceleration.

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  Před 2 lety +12

      It is, though adding the extra characters makes the title too long, and as far as I can tell there isn't a non pro version anyway :)
      I mentioned it can't be charged over Type-C and that there is no DisplayPort over Type-C, and that HDMI goes to iGPU.

    • @mk-wz2sh
      @mk-wz2sh Před 2 lety

      @@JarrodsTech Yes, I know :) But there are a lot of non-PRO Vivobooks (which can be confusing) and what's more I find it ridiculous that the Vivobook PRO (targeted for PROfessionals: calibrated screen, dialpad etc), due to the lack of direct video output and a bottleneck in the form of iGPU with a small amount of shared VRAM cannot be used for professional applications and e.g. the above-mentioned larger scenes cannot be rendered in Blender with GPU acceleration :D

      @Noble_Isaac Před 2 lety

      @@Noble_Isaac it's great that you have a Lenovo, but I wrote about the Asus Vivobook Pro 16X. In these laptops, Power Delivery is working only in Intel models, not in AMD. And it is not a matter of the processor, but of Asus that implemented PD only on Intel models.

    • @eduardosanchez7827
      @eduardosanchez7827 Před rokem

      I have both in my office and I can tell you this: The Vivobook 16 is a much competent laptop if you consider it’s portability. It’s slower but it’s build quality is better, keyboard is way better and the overall design looks better for professional use. The AERO is a different beast: yes it’s faster but not by much. The screen is flimsy, the keyboard layout is a little uncomfortable (can’t explain why), the build quality on paper should favor the AERO because of its aluminum exterior but the Asus feels way better. Finally, when you launch any creative app like AutoCAD or Photoshop you Can the fans ramping like they want to run away. It’s ridiculously loud even on everyday task on those programs.

I don't know how much $ this saves them/final price, but IMO this is a serious self-own for an otherwise interesting machine. At least with Apple you're getting excellent hardware in virtually every possible aspect in return for swallowing the bitter pill of no upgrades.

      Its apples and oranges comparison. The Legion 5 is a 2.5kg laptop, that excludes the huge bundled 300W power adaptor. This Vivobook is a 1.9kg machine. I do not feel that this Vivobook is priced to close to a Macbook Pro 16. Still, the Macbook Pro 16 is at 2.1~2.2kg . A heavier machine. With Apple, yes you do get excellent hardware, but its hardware is mostly optimized for video production stuff. It sucks at gaming . I got literally 6 fps in Starcraft 2 , with Metal API , maxed details at close to its native screen res ( to avoid that notch) on a Macbook Pro 16 with a 32GPU core M1 Max, 32GB RAM . I tested Warcraft 3 Reforged (with Metal API) on the same machine too, it could run smoothly at 1920X1200 resolution with every graphic details maxed out, but not near its native resolution. Starcraft 2 could only run smoothly at medium graphics setting at 1920X1200 resolution.

      not surprising at all
      its a vivobook-lower class in Asus' laptop lineup
      so i guest asus cut the extra ssd slot on purpose so if users want to upgrade more, they gotta have to buy higher class in lineup like the Zenbooks

    can someone help me? When jared says you can't bypass the iGPU with an HDMI - does this mean when I play games the monitor will only display graphics generated with the integrated graphics ( i.e not the 3050 ) ??

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  Před rokem

      No, the Nvidia graphics will still run the game, but the display signal goes via the iGPU - exactly the same as if you're using the laptop's screen to run the game. It's just that most laptops have HDMI connecting directly to Nvidia, which removes the iGPU bottleneck and can boost FPS in games.
