I love this guy! He’s great with his presentation and I appreciate the way he communicates with his audience with respect. Yes, also he brings up options and benefits. He has such a low key charismatic personality you just crave the idea of wanting to work along side with him at work. I have so much respect for him. I’m jealous of his family and employees. Thank you for not being obnoxious. You are awesome. Thank you so much for sharing. 🙏
I have watched many bamboo steamer videos and learned the most from this video. Nobody else mentioned soaking the steamer or infusing the water. I subscribed.
Great video. I went to Chinatown today to get a double bamboo steamer like the one he uses. Have been using a metal steamer. Really looking forward to the bamboo. Thanks.
I love your voice thank you for this. I originally bought a bamboo steamer to make my boyfriend a bento box as a one time use, but now I've been using it every day and I love it so much
I wander how many of them I can actually stack ontop of each other before the steam starts to get too cold. I also heard that you should put fish at the top or the rest will taste like fish. No idea if that is trie though...
Thank you for this video. I purchased a bamboo steamer for the first time a few days ago. It came without an instruction booklet so I have no idea how to clean it properly before using it for the first time and how to properly care for it thereafter. Do I use mineral oil on it from time to time as you would a wood cutting board? I am afraid of mold being a problem for lack of proper care so I literally have not touched it. Worst part is I want to make homemade Wonton soup and am dying to use my steamer 😥
I think is a recommendation. I have never seen a video that shows that you should soak them first but it makes perfect sense. You don't have to though.
Can a non-wok owner use these? I hear a few people say if it fits perfectly. I have a pretty standard set of N American sauce pans and skillets, would it fit on top?
Yes. If you havev a pot that fits the inner bottom diameter, you're set. Or, you can get adapter rings. Or, you can fit them in a wide enough pot with a 1.5-2.5" tall trivet. I use a trivet, and stuff the whole stack inside my pressure cooker (unsealed).
Looks like a tasty dish, and steaming is often a good way to cook things, thanks for showing these steamers. However, sometimes I wish you would be a little more careful with your culinary science. Salt can indeed increase the boiling point of water, but for it to actually do so in this case would take a _lot_ more salt than that. Even if you were to use sea water, the boiling point would only go up by one degree or so over that of fresh water. (Depending on how salty your sea water is.) Really, putting a pinch of salt in your steaming water only wastes salt. The salt stays behind when the water evaporates, so it won't even help to season your food.
Other than putting a disgusting dead fish corpse in this glorious basket video, it was super solid. Funny that this guy is making finfish, which, could kill 1 of his actual own children who is super allergic to 7 of the big 8 allergens.
I loveee that he gives other options that may not be available or can afford for everyone!!!
Ming has been one of my favorite chefs for so many years. Thanks for the steaming video!!

Thanks Ming, you're the first on YT to inform of soaking the steamer first. Great info - makes good sense.

Hi! Can you use Bamboo Leaves Instead of Banana Leaves?

doesn't the bamboo absorb some of the flavour??
I've been on an Asian food kick, so this channel is awesome! I'm excited!

Can you steam a steak as long as there's a liner?
Awesome
Is the steamer soaked each time we need to use it for cooking?

I had the same question.

I lost 7 lbs looking at that healthy food
Salmon has such nice red color. Think twice whether you want to add lemon acid to it as it bleeches the red color.
How do I clean the Steamer I burnt it a little did not use Leaves on the bottom 😲🤷♀️🤷♀️😳😳😳😢😢did not use much water to steam!
Is he suggesting that you soak the steamers 2 plus hours before each use?
Broccoli tastes better if you add butter and salt to it After steaming
Quanto si tiene in cottura ?
👍

I wouldn't stem salmon, tastes mushy like it's been boiled.
Why are there cancer warnings on bamboo steamers? That is not very healthy.
Why so much Oil... OVER EXAGGERATED...
Hah! If you think that’s a lot. In Greece you should see how much is used. Of course only the best, most delicious EVOO.
Totally wrong !!! 😖
Yuck
Lol.
