Fun fact: The AZ-5 shutoff button stays Chernobyl was really what caused the disaster. The control rods were partially made of graphite, which can sustain or increase the nuclear reaction, and by pressing this button, you would be hastening the reaction process, leading to an explosion.
Az-5 is an emergency shutdown for Chernobyl’s RBMK reactors ,which is still in use in parts of Russia, but when they pushed it there was a flaw in the shutdown where the cooling rods gave a little bit of power that caused the explosions (as said in HBO’s Chernobyl)
That part with classical music brought tear in my eye. So beautiful. I need more. Way, way more.

The AZ-5 button was actually the emergency shutdown button. When the controllers of Chernobyl pressed the AZ-5 button the reactor was already overheating and when they clicked it, it would push all control rods inside. BUT something broke and the control rods were jammed and water couldn’t circulate and thus, EXPLOSION. No one knew the AZ-5 button was actually a DETONATE button.
No the control rods were graphite which increased the reactor and they wer gralhite tips
The rods tips were coded in graphite, because it was cheaper

They should add a kamikaze plane mod where there is a plane that flies above and shoots a target 4 or 5 times and then the plane crashes into the area
Upon pressing AZ-5 rods pull back into reactor and shut it down
However *OUR* rods have graphite tips coz its cheaper
So when they retract the first thing that enters core is Graphite and rods stop in place unable to go up and down
Together with other aspects of situation at the time it created a big unbalance between Power and Cooling causing an explosion
3:38 the az-5 button is the reactor scram or emergency shutdown, but when the reactor is at super critical it can be flawed and will blow up the reactor.
