  • If you own your own boat, and if you live on the water, you may be debating as to whether or not you should keep it at a marina, or if you should keep it at your own dock.
In this video, we'll explore the pros and cons of both options and help you decide which is best for you.
Of course, if you like the video we hope you'll subscribe to future episodes and also consider joining us on an offshore fishing adventure by visiting our website at speechlessspor....

Please do more videos. I love em. Please explain what each member on the boat is doing. How to use the outriggers, how to use the gaff, etc. Thanks.

For a commercial boat, marina wins hands down. You don't want clients showing up at your house requiring a location to park, and the neighbors complaining about traffic or noise.
Privately owned boat, a home dock with a lift, but with a extra high lift. You ask why extra high lift? I've seen too many boats on lifts have props stolen by people paddling or electric trolling motoring in. Make it difficult to access props or climbing onboard to pilfer what they can/want.
A thief doesn't care how much damage they do to your boat when removing your electronics.
The last thing on my list is that most marinas don't allow you to bring your own fuel. With gasoline $1.50 to $2.00 a gallon more in a marina, a fuel caddy means more fishing for less money. I've been dosed with spaghetti algae in diesel fuel before. If the marina is a low volume location, you're going to get contaminated fuel.

That's a great comment right there. You brought up some points we should have shared in this video as well. Much thanks for adding your thoughts!👍

Love your videos! For my Key West 239 FS I elected to use option 3, keep the boat at home on a trailer. Since I don't have waterfront property it was either this or the marina. Although I can't just jump in the boat and go, having it at home on the trailer does provide some of the advantages mentioned in the video with respect to convenience in doing maintenance & cleaning. And while it isn't as good as seeing the boat on a lift on my personal pier, I do get the pleasure of seeing it sitting on the trailer when looking out the sliding glass door of our family room! My wife actually gets jealous, she says I look at the boat the same way I used to look at her. One note, the trailer option isn't free, keeping your trailer maintained (hubs, brakes, lights, winch, surge coupler, etc.) does require more effort than you might think.

Some really great thoughts there Tony. We should have added the "keep it on a trailer" option to the video as well, so I'm glad you've brought it up. Good stuff and keep enjoying those views our the sliding glass door!😉

This video is for 0.000001% of the population.... Waterfront property owners.

If you own a boat, you’re of the .001% Dan. At what point did you become such a bitter waterman?

I think tonyg hit the nail on the head for a better argument for the dilemma.... Trailer vs marina. I think you'd connect with more subscribers.

@@dieseldan95I already agreed his idea was a great one and that’s a future video. Still, getting bitter over something as trite as this isn’t an indictment on the video, but rather the mindset of the observer.

I'll jump back in on this. I have friends and acquaintances who have gorgeous waterfront homes with their own private pier. I don't begrudge them their good fortune; I'm very happy for anyone who is able to accumulate nice things over the course of their life. And even though I don't own waterfront property, videos like this are still interesting and contain useful information. Who knows, I might hit the lottery one day so it's good to have a little knowledge about an option for spending part of my fortune! :)
