- Beautiful scenic bike ride from Plummer, Idaho to Mullan, Idaho alongside Lake Coeur d’Alene, up the Chain Lakes and finally part way up Lookout Pass on the Idaho/Montana border.
The Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes is a paved trail following a former Union Pacific Railroad route.
Starting in Plummer, the trail begins with a 5 mile downhill section to Heyburn State Park at the southern end of Lake Coeur d'Alene. From there, cross over the stunning Chatcolet Bridge and follow the eastern shore of the lake north towards Harrison. Stop in Harrison for breakfast, a coffee or some fantastic ice cream from the Harrison Creamery.
Leaving Harrison, the trail meanders up the Coeur d'Alene River through the chain lakes where you are sure to see a variety of wildlife from birds to moose.
Following this section, the trail continues east through the charming towns of Cataldo, Pinehurst, Smelterville, Kellogg and Osburn before reaching the historic town of Wallace.
At this point the trail begins to climb Lookout Pass and eventually comes to an end at the Mullan Trailhead near the Idaho/Montana border.

Okay, I have to tease you a bit. I notice you have the expensive gravel bike, the expensive shoes and apparel and driving an e-Honda but you have a bike rack straight out of the 90s that will stretch your trunk and can potentially bottom out your bike when you back our of a driveway with a steep curb😅
Beautiful trail. I'm gonna try this weekend.
Hope you enjoy it! It really is special.
did you stop for water anywhere? I am doing this in July and am nervous I won't be able to fill water bottles.
No water on the trail itself, but you ride through a number of towns as you approach Mullan with stores. I found a small park in Osborn right off the trail with running water that I refilled at.
@@rideswithjoe9795 Yeah, just did this last week. Yes, Osborn was very helpful. There are some public restrooms just off the trail in Harrison with a sink big enough for water bottles. I did 91 miles that day...Plummer was my finish line. Boy that climb out of Heyburn does not feel great after all that.
On a scale of 1-5 what is the level of experience and physicality needed for this ride if broken up
Hi Jennifer, It depends how you break it up and which way you go. It is relatively flat between Harrison and Kellog. There is a slight incline from Kellog to Mulan but it is not bad. From Heyburn state park to Plummer I would say it averages at 3-4% incline....it was brutal after doing 80 miles (for me). If you want it to be the easiest, I would start at Plummer or Mulan, enjoy the decent and then get picked up in the middle. The flat part is a rating of 1. Up to Mulan, 2.5-3. Whatever lengths you do, just make sure you've done 80% of that length before. Bring plenty of water. Places to stop could be in Kellog, Osburn, Wallace, the coffee shack on the trail at smeltville and Harrison. Nothing much between smeltville and Harrison@@jennifercarr7351
It's amazing how bad music can ruin a really nice video. Yeah, I know I can mute it, but hearing the sounds of nature along the trail would be nice. A lot better than this music. But the video part is quite good.
Thanks for the comment, Mark. Editing videos is not a strength of mind and I agree the music selection is poor. I am glad you enjoyed the video component. Cheers!
Probably too critical in my review, but I do like the sounds of nature on the trail. I will say your video had me put this trail on my list of trails to ride this summer. Thanks!
