    Thank you for bringing light to theses almost forgotten chain of events. Our people were deceived and that's the bottom line. These were real communities that looked out for one another. I believe that although they lived below the government poverty level, they were rich simply because of their strong sense of family/community. Thank again for sharing. It's not the dogers fault it's the politicians

      pigjubby1 did Mexican politicians deceive them and force them out of Boyle Heights? Mexicans move in to the neighborhood isn’t gentrification, it’s simply people just moving into the neighborhood.

    Nobody seems to be bothered when families were displaced and homes demolished to build the 10 freeway, the 5 freeway, the 60 freeway and the 710 freeway. I never hear of any boycotting of those freeways even though they displaced many more people than the people in Chavez Ravine.

    • @amarus12
      @amarus12  Před 5 lety +5

      why do people like to open publicize their ignorance on the internet, when plenty of tools exist to just research a bit? entire documentaries have been made about how the east la interchange displaced families and fractured communities. there are MANY people who recognize the construction of those freeways as violence against the communities who lived there--this is partly what the fight against the 710 freeway extension has been about.

    @ShortButFreshFilms your definition is superficial and completely neglectful of the ways that racism actually manifests in our society. For example, the dehumanizing practice of classifying human beings as "illegal" is absolutely based on racism. For one second consider who is marked as "illegal" in dominant discourses surrounding immigration today. Despite the fact that people immigrate illegally from all over the world, it is always non-white bodies that become marked as "illegal" or "alien."

    Native Americans (Indians) we're here B4 any one.. but as far as Mexico thats a spanish word. and mexicans speak Espanol. que no? where did that language come from? SPAIN correct? so theres Spanish people, Native American people. African slaves who were displaced.. and then immigrants from Europe. all coming here to a new land and Formed America and canada... it's just history... if u look at the history of Europe it's similar. warfare and domination and slavery.

      "Mexican" is not a Spanish word. Its Nahuatl, The people Mexica (Meh-Chee-Ka)... When the Spaniards invaded Tenochtitlan they changed the way pronounced the "X" in MEXICA from the Meh-Chee-Ka to what we know now as Meh-Xi-Ko. Mexica means "Near The Water" in Nahuatl language for your information. My reply has nothing to do with your comment. Im just correcting you..
