R.I.P Stan Lee
😢💔
Yeah 🖤🖤🖤
I agree 🙁
The Jim Carrey version will always have a special place in my heart.
+Dylan Matthews
Same
Same
Same, but I also really liked the animated short.
+Dylan Matthews Same here.
@@Gabreya Hello
If I wanted an animated Grinch movie...I would see the original from the books.
Yeah, because the book was really short. The animated short by Chuck Jones was just the right length.
It's Illumination. I'm not surprised
Grinch? More like a green Squidward or a grouchy Oscar from Sesame Street. Hell, OSCAR is more grinchy than the actual Grinch in this movie!
rhonda howard LOL that’s true 😂
The original cartoon will always be my favorite.
Same here
@Mutafukaz Spider I just loved Thurl Ravenscroft's Grinch song the best even as an adult.
@@Demondragonkinggav I really liked both the animated short and the live-action adaptation.
@Mutafukaz Spider Yeah. Nothing can beat the original.
Same
Hey Tony did you hear about Stan Lee? The man was a real superhero, and he lived his life to the fullest.
Rogue Fox exactly we lost a great man Stan Lee we lost a legend
You should do a tribute to Stan Lee who passed away just hours ago.
The new Grinch song is the worst part. It’s as bland as the story line.
Yes the song is garbage
And I was actually sung by Tyler, the creator.
I was saying the SAME EXACT thing. The Grinch, to me at least, is just another Gru...down to the stripped scarf.😶😞
And the way he walks with his hands behind his back in a slumped fashion just like gru.
Tbh I like the original animated and the 2000 version better. This one is just boring.
Th.El.Co._1 So true! Thank god I never went to theaters for this, or I wouldof been full of shame and embarrassment.
Dr. Seuss is spinning in his grave right now again.
The 1966 Chuck Jones and Boris Karloff Version will be always be the best Adaptation of 'How The Grinch Stole Christmas' Story.
Even Jim Carry's The Grinch (2000) was better than this bland, boring and pointless The Grinch (2018) Adaptation.
Shut up nostalgia hugger this is better
Jim carries grinch will forever be my favorite Christmas movie
Luke A I just loved jim carries performance when I saw this movie as a kid it became my favorite Christmas movie
how the grinch stole christmas (1966) will always be my favorite christmas movie, it's short great and is a christmas classic. I only like Jim carrey performance and the kid that played sandy lou (which she is the lead singer of the pretty reckless) in the 2000 grinch movie. The 2000 movie has the whos being such pricks and assholes, the ending message about the meaning of christmas was botched, some of the jokes was cringy behind believe, the movie looks so dirty as well.
Juicy J SAME!
The cartoon one from the 60s is the best of them all!
Emilia Martinez your right. But the live movie when Jim Carey played as the Grinch, That ones the best too.
@@truearea53 there can be only one. The 66 version beats both remakes
Best version of The Grinch was the book and original cartoon. The Jim Carrey film was alright. The Grinch 2018 was a complete shit show and a mess.
Illumination might be my least favorite animation company. While I enjoy the Despicable Me movies for what they are. They seem to focus more on marketing as opposed to quality.
alternate title: how the Cringe stole the Grinch! pause tho!
Yeah
supermariofan03 And they make..... C'mon Asch say it!
Asch:No!
Me:Pleeeeaassseeee?
Asch: Not at all.
Me: But I'm in an infinite time loop!
Asch:Hmmmmmm.....
REEEPLLIIICAAA!!!!
Blue sky Studios is my least favorite animation studio they ruined the Ice Age franchise with Ice Age collision course just cause I didn’t like the minions movie does not mean it completely ruined the Despicable Me franchise. So illumination is just OKAY.
I can only think of 1.
They chose the wrong narrator.
The movie was great until Pharrell opened his mouth.
He did such a bad job. I don't know what the director was thinking.
Even the original narrator from the movie made in 1966 was dead on.
Jim Carry playing the Grinch in 2000 did an awesome job but Pharrel di not;
Pharrell stink skank stunk.. He killed the chances of a remake.
mike smith The film to me is okay but Pharrell was TOO droney. It makes Other M Samus not droney at all.
Could’ve just had Benedict Cumberbatch narrate the film instead with his own natural British voice and it would’ve worked much better than having Pharrell narrate.
The humour that resembles an early 2000s Dreamworks film exists in this film, because they are taunting us, because Illumination own the rights to Shrek and not Dreamworks.
technically they dont but are under the same company. and then i guess they were given the rights because now they are making their own Shrek. oh boy i cant wait to see Shrek in illumination's round fuzzy cartoonish style, where Shrek starts off by mildly inconveniencing the village people, and they go over his dark backstory of being an ogre as a child, he gets made fun of for being green, but by the end of the film after meeting Fiona, he learns to not be bad. (aka despicable me again)
BCG Stan Lee passed away :(
They should have stopped at the version with Jim Carrey and not try to do another remake.
I like Jim Carey's version of the Grinch more
Harry FleuTV ew
Harry FleuTV Same here! Way funnier, good storyline etc etc.
Same
plus doesn't the grinch and his cheerful neighbor remind you of squidward and his overly cheerful neighbor, spoungebob?
What scares me. Is that they changed the song
The grinch didn't need a backstory.
Well... Specifically *this* backstory misses the point of the character.
@@Monicaccina exactly that’s why it’s the weakest adaptation of the character.
Except that the grinch is NICE to Max which is the opposite of who his character is
It's one of the first things they show, and it angers me so much
you should do this format more often, sticking to the 3 Reasons why a movie is good or bad, but you can still do your regular format of movie reviews mixed in.
Their wallets grew three sizes that day.
Good one.
your opening is more accurate than movie itself
That opening is everything. 😂
I wasn't planning to watch it anyway.
What I hated the most about this movie was that it so boring
Alex Hilber yeah it was so boring and lame.
To me that's not the Grinch that's grinch Jr trying to live up to his father success
Jim Carrey was better as the Grinch. And the movie had a better reason why the grinch hated Christmas with both the past and present.
Alejandra Cervantes At least Jim Carrey got the essence of the character unlike everything in that film or this.
True legendary actor.
+Alejandra Cervantes Exactly! The live action version did a better job at conveying the reason why the Grinch hated Christmas and in hindsight, the whole situation makes perfect sense. And Jim Carrey's portrayal as the Grinch was both in character as a jerk and at times, genuinely sympathetic without going overboard.
Illumination just won’t move past their one big hit. It shows and it will be their downfall as a studio.
5:04 the grinch's eyes are supposed to be yellow. even that live-action movie knew that.
Yeah his design was pretty bad in this film they tried to make them look as plushy and nice guy as possible even though that’s not the point.
I was laughing while watching the movie because the real grinch stole Christmas in less than 30 minutes which took the fake grinch 1 hour and 30 minutes. Pathetic!
I knew this movie would suck and be like the Lorax. This movie is so dated and uninspired.
Domeju True
3. Illumination Studios
2. Illumination Studios
And 1. this may come as a shock, Illumination Studios!
I fucking despise Illumination and I will dread the day their take on Shrek will hit theaters
eh I'll stick with the live action Jim Carrey Grinch movie
I don't think they misunderstood the message of the original (because it was so simple), I think they just chose not to care and chose to make their own shitty version.
@Zilla you want tell that to Brandon will you?
@Zilla look up the comment section. The same thing Brandon said is posted on many comments.
Spencer was just following him to keep his idiocy down.
If your going to target, target all the offenders.
I guess you could best describe this film with three words.
(sings) "STINK ... STANK ... STUUUUUNK!" (insert evil maniacal laughter here)
I don't think anybody expected the voice actor to be as amazing as Boris Karloff, but the voice of the Grinch in this movie just didn't work at all.
More like...
The *Cringe*
Blazing Coal Or the Asuka. Not me.
I'm scared of the Shrek Reboot
*Because he lied to us about Smash*
on a related note, Chuck Jones, Boris Karloff & Dr. Seuss are rolling in their graves now! take a listen everybody! listen!
@Luke A right but still! this is an Animated adaptation so what!?
The movie sucks.
The cringe that stole Christmas
Did anyone even ask for this movie?
How can they mess up something so damn simple
Apparently Illumination can
1966 Grinch FTW!!!
Good video! Although in the live action Grinch movie, they did the same thing with the sad backstory of the Grinch being an orphan but raised by a couple of ladies I think and that he was bullied in school as a kid which was why he hated Christmas. But you made very good points.
Why complain was it kinda felt like a Grinch cover of Despicable Me.
just watched in on netflix after previously wanting to see it in theaters but missed the opportunity. glad i did because it would not have been worth it at all. it’s really pointless it’s quite humorless, and only really enjoyable if you’re under the age of 6. wasn’t even any more enjoyable while watching high.
The Grinch is a pointless film and I hate it. I was dragged to see it in theaters with my family.
This whole Movie feels like a stupid Cash Grab.
But after watching your review Tony, Now I know it's just a carbon copy of Despicable Me!
Agree
Agreed with everything you said here.
The ONE joke that actually made me laugh in the entire movie was when Kenan Thompson Who had some of his red velvet cake and saw the Grinch stealing his prop sled. And he said,
"I just saw Santa outside! What is in this cake? ... Can I have some more?" THAT got a laugh out of me.
1. DESIGN choice! where Frack were the Ppl who designed "Horton Hears A who" in '09 ?!??! 10x more better and reminiscent of Chuck Jones Designs!!
2. Missed Opportunity with Voce actor. The Origional Animation had an English Deep voicd to narrate AND voice the Grinch. And the Actor for the new one is ENGLISH and has DEEP voice. But have him a kinda higher pitched American one?!?
3. Backstory was.....😧Jim Carey ver. Was WAAAAAAY better. Made more sense and inderstandable with his resentment of the Who's and Christmas.
The Jim Carry version sucked, too. He doesn't need a backstory - he's just an evil guy and that's that. "No one quite knows the reason." It's a mystery and literally doesn't matter. We're not supposed to feel sorry for him or identify with him; we're just supposed to revel in and laugh at his dastardly despicable ways. He isn't sad and doesn't hate Christmas because he never got one; he hates "all the noise, noise, noise, NOISE!!!" He just hates it, and that's that.
@@hanburgundy4317 Ironically, the original did explain it with the Grinch’s heart being 2 times too small and hating the noise of the Who’s celebrating Christmas.
Benedict Cumberbatch should have used a similar voice to what hew used for Smog from the Hobbit for this role! And if the animation for him was actually creepy--he would have looked perfect!
I respect and agree with your opinion, Tony. I feel like Benedict Cumberbatch wasn't the perfect fit for the Grinch. No hate towards Benedict Cumberbatch. I will never denied that Benedict Cumberbatch is an amazing actor. He is a great actor.
In here, I don't see him as the Grinch. It's just Benedict Cumberbatch as Benedict Cumberbatch. I don't see the character I just the actor himself.
To be honest, I think Christopher Lloyd would have been a better choice to voice The Grinch. That would have been funny though. Or maybe John Lithgow.
i think Benedict Cumberbatch could have pulled it off, that guy has some range, but of course, he had bad direction.
Agreed
Lemme guess, the reason is because it is a unnecessary retelling of the original story just modernized. Am I right?
Brandon Spain the grinch in 2018 seems like a depressed teenager who just passed college. I love that actually.
The Fake Grinch
Movie Really Sucks
Yes
Fake Grinch?
@@ainsleighdavidson yep
The intro cracked me up! 😂
Ikr
hey Illumination! Chuck Jones from Heaven called! he alongside his animators did the character 100 times better than you guys back in the 60's at MGM! 21/100 i knew this film wasn't going to work!
@Luke A it is GARBAGE LOOKING! in fact i love the original 1960's version better! but here? what the hell did they do to my personal favorite villain character here?!
p.s i wonder if the original 1960's marketable version is still selling well?
Shut up nostalgia hugger
The Grinch scared the crap out of me as a kid lol
I like your ISLAND scroll btw. Nice.
The screaming goat video was from 6 years ago in 2012 actually. And another thing, the animal is really a sheep not a goat.
Unfortunately it raked in $66 million so....expect more of them.
i really REALLY hope the Original Chuck Jones special doesn't get pushed under the rug!
music sucked !
Excuse me Tyler, The Creator is amazing. Why don’t you listen before you judge?
@@michaeltoobased i did. The song is still crap.
From what I heard....the makers of the film felt an evil grinch wouldn’t be marketable...y’all do know the Jim Carrey Version was number one for a month and it had the homie putting a Mistletoe near his ass
XD That Intro tho!
BCG is right. The new version of the grinch sucked and you were right about everything
That singing; you sir need to get an award.
I hate the narrator he was to up beat and didn't get into the spirit.
Boris Karloff and Anthony Hopkins did a much better job narrating the Grinch than Pharrell.
It’s insane how it took a freaking hour for Max to become the reindeer for Grinch
Why this movie sucks
1. Illumination
2. Illumination
3. Illumination
Silent Protagonist 4. Illumination
This is the only good illumination movie secret life of pets 2nd place
Its illumination, what do you expect? Got to make everything nice and heartwarming which makes them terrible candidates for a grinch movie
you think that both gru and grinch being mean to people but turning out to be good people from the beginning is a theme in this animated movie company?
Which is Worse? Small Foot or The Grinch 2018?
Small Foot. But both are great for a good laugh and something to enjoy by yourself or with your family.
InsideOutWIRLionKing&HTTYD3 Fan2001 grinch 2018
Small foot
The Grinch
BCG,do you think you will like Ralph Breaks the Internet?
It has gotten great reviews on IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes
Agree and the review came in on IGN.
Aren't you forgetting that the live-action movie gave the Grinch a backstory too? He was found as a baby by two women who adopted him, he got bullied at school for being hairy, and when he tried to give himself a shave in order to impress his crush, the kids all laughed at him. This caused him to act out and thus, resulted in him hating Christmas. What do you think of that?
The live action one was worse
A backstory for the Grinch is unnecessary period.
"Now, please don't ask why. No one quite knows the reason....Whatever the reason, His heart or his shoes, He stood there on Christmas Eve, hating the Whos." -Straight from the book
Both theatrical films tried to shoehorn a backstory and both failed equally.
@@RoadrunnerMoose exactly my thought
I watched the film a few days ago and is... Average. There's things that I liked, There's things that I don't like, but like I just said, is just average. Now in dats i'm only expecting Illumination to make me entretain in their films. I'm not expecting a really intresting or creative story, just watch a film that can at least make me laugh. But I will stop going to watch their films in the day when they make a movie so awful that could be consider worse than Hop. For now, I don't mind going to the theater and watch their films.
I liked the introduction 😄
His cave looks like it was designed by martha stewart
I'd just seen the animated Grinch movie and it's Okay NOT Great NOT Terrible Just Okay
Yup exactly how I feel about it.
Would anyone rather watch the live action Jim Carrey one?
I would, one of the reasons why I'd rather watch the Jim Carry one is because the characterization of the Grinch is better.
At least in my opinion.
Holly Soltis And his actor has charisma!
Benjamin Vanneste I totally would. Since the 2018 just bombed it all.
The whole concept of a backstory explaining why the Grinch hated Christmas goes completely against the original story. In the book and the classic Chuck Jones adaptation, it implies that he hated Christmas because his heart was two sizes too small. Simple enough. But no, that's not a long enough explanation to make a feature length film, so they have to discard that and make him a misunderstood, sympathetic character. The voice and character design don't fit either. In the Chuck Jones cartoon, Boris Karloff, who was best known as Frankenstein's monster in the 1931 film and starring in many other classic horror movies, was cast as both the narrator and the Grinch himself. Not only did the Grinch look menacing in that cartoon, but his voice sounded menacing too. You know right from the get-go that he's evil and mean and rotten. Even Jim Carrey did a better job of capturing that. And don't get me started on how they butchered Cindy Lou Who. In the book, Cindy Lou Who wakes up on Christmas Eve to get a cup of water, and the Jones cartoon hints at this. In this one, she has an elaborate plot to trap Santa at her house and gets the Grinch instead. Oh, and in a blatant example of woke Hollywood virtue signaling, Cindy Lou now has a single mother. Finally, instead of the Grinch figuring out for himself what made the Whos so happy after he took all their Christmas food, presents, and decorations, it's Cindy Lou who makes him have a change of heart. Make no mistake; this film is Despicable Me in a Dr. Seuss skin, and it cheapens the original story in a way that the Jones cartoon didn't.
Also the Grinch hated the noise or “The Noise, NOISE, *NOISE* !” of the Who’s celebrating Christmas whether it’d be the Who kids playing with their new presents or the Who’s singing their usual song they sing every Christmas. That’s another reason he hated Christmas.
It's pretty much the same with Illumination's The Lorax, an adaptation that completely misses the point and ends up being ultimately forgettable as a result.
The grinch 2018 your’e a mean on me grinch is horrible
BCG,did you see the trailers for Toy Story 4 and Detective Pikachu? :)
I hope you like those trailers ^^
You’re a misunderstood one.. mr grinch 😥
Good intro, hope the videos keep coming.
first off called it! i knew they would make some money from this animated not so bad looking Shmegma
Wreck it Ralph 2 Ralph break the internet a much better movie come sooner on November 21 2018 on Wednesday
Illumination Entertainment.
*Ding!*
At the begining of the video, i noticed that you have a poster of yakumo from school rumble.... where can i get one and how much are they?!
Can't wait to hear your rant on the detective pikachu stuff
T Rayk i can hardley wait
Just for that "Dragon Ball Catch Eye" Sound, I'm subscribing :D
7:20 I think a better image to show here would've been the moment in the old cartoon where the narrator says, "The Grinch got a perfectly wonderful, awful idea!" The expression the Grinch has in that moment is downright scary!
Wow. Your a great singer. Can we get a full version of Your a Mean One BCG please?
What's these Grinch movies not understanding the core theme of the story aside from the original version.
