  • One of the greatest struggles most parents have in dealing with an adult child struggling with substance use disorder is differentiating between inadvertently enabling their addiction vs. helping them in a healthy and loving way toward recovery.
    In this program father and son team Kim and Sean Humphrey talk about their journey as Sean's parents began to institute the loving and healthy boundaries they learned by attending Parents of Addicted Loved Ones (PAL). Kim is now the CEO of PAL; and Sean is in long-term recovery after years of addiction to heroin. He now is the community liaison for The Calvary Healing Center in Phoenix.
    Parents of Addicted Loved Ones (PAL) is a nonprofit that provides hope through education and support to parents of adults dealing with substance use disorder. Free weekly support groups of parents helping parents use an evidence-based curriculum created by professionals in the treatment and recovery field.

    This is great, very practical and real-life. Have you seen Dr. KJ Foster's videos on addiction? They're also great.

    Can we find the slides and pictures somewhere? Thank you so much for making this video. In times of Covid we are learning but this really sped up the information we receive.

      Hi Paula. We're so glad you found this helpful - and encouraging. The pictures and slides were intentionally not included on CZcams to protect the privacy of Kim and Sean's family, but they review all the points during the spoken presentation. You can also get more information on the PAL website at palgroup.org/ or find a group in your area by clicking directly here: meetings.palgroup.org/meetings

    I have been approached to bring PAL to Laughlin, NV. Not sure if I can lead because I lost my only child to Fentanyl. I would still try.

    Were you ever afraid that your son would commit suicide if things got too bad?

    • @ParentsofAddictedLovedOnes
      @ParentsofAddictedLovedOnes  Před 9 měsíci

      One of the very unfortunate issues is the threat of suicide which certainly did happen. We always take this seriously and every hint or suggestion of this, we attempted to find where they would be and send help. Always take threats seriously.
