This was one of the rare Canucks games that was memorable that year (and go figure it was a loss), what an awful year for Vancouver. That being said, the Punjabi commentary of this fight was priceless, and so I'm grateful that it introduced me to that back in the day. It's honestly surreal to see how little the Canucks lineup during this game has in common with the lineup for them now, they're definitely not great but at least they are trying to be good unlike back then when they tried to compete with a super old roster, a bust contract in Loui Eriksson, and a defence with Gudbranson, Biega, Hutton, and Sbisa. What an absolute trainwreck, they finished with 69 points. Just talking about it makes me barf. On the other hand, the Leafs still have the core guys of Matthews, Nylander, Marner, Rielly, and Andersen (and Hyman if you want to compare him), but their team's depth parts have really taken a change too. I remember the narrative for the Leafs in 2016-17 was that they were resilient, fighting well against Washington. They'd do great things...to be honest, they've constantly gotten the short end of the stick because despite some damn good regular seasons they constantly have to face a Bruins team that's higher in the standings, and because of it people think the Leafs are failures despite the top teams of the Atlantic being overpowered. Now that they're in a Canadian division (tough overall one but not a top heavy one by any means), they might have a chance to actually shed their reputation. I feel like if they don't get the job done this year, they're going to seriously consider a retool (not a full rebuild with that many great players), where some of the decent players may be on the way out just to change the structure of the team.
