I hand wash all my contigo products and once a week I soak the lids in warm water with a denture tablet, give them a good scrub with a straw cleaning brush...had them for YEARS...have never looked like the ones you are showing here. Mind you, dishwashers are never really great for things with small parts/holes. Dishwashers have ALWAYS left gross residue on my fine mesh colanders...maybe it’s the same principle here?

Don't wash them in the dishwasher; the water gets stuck in the inner workings and makes them gross. I've used contigo for YEARS and never had this problem. Always hand-wash with a straw brush for the straws and spouts 😊
I am so glad you made this video, I was going to make one showing exactly this problem. I had to use an asterisk head screw driver to get the "triangle" screws out. Anyway this is a huge safety problem, people are actually drinking mold and black microbial fungus. You need to send this video to Dr. OZ or a local news channel, this is disgusting and the design is flawes and needs to be removed from US markets. Thank You!
I use lemon juice shake it which cleans the inside from the tea then flip it upside down with the lid on it in a cup over night. I do wish they had a tiny brush to get down into the groves the stall ones don’t work because it has the metal tip on the end. Or u can boil it for a few minutes. I was shocked when I looked in it the first time and seen the black mold my wife had a cough that wouldn’t go away and that was why. Black mold can be deadly
I strongly suggest you have the dishwasher checked out, have you cleaned the filter in the dishwasher? I find it very strange that even with just straight water flushing throughout the dishwasher that these lids were this bad.
Good soak in hot soapy water, lid tab pulled out. I have 2 Contigo bottles, a water bottle and a coffee travel mug using coffee with milk and sugar. If you're using any sugary drink like soda (not made for carbonated drinks) milk or fruit juice, they need to be cleaned daily. Contact Contigo with your issues and they send a replacement.
I think Contigo stopped making these bottles probably due to people misusing them and not using common sense in cleaning them. I LOVE the Contigo products and the lifetime warranties they give so it's too bad some Karen's cause the company to stop making some models. Judging by the total filth in the lids the family is in danger of earning a Darwin Award for self-destruction. I think that Contigo would have reason to sue you for causing the company great harm posting this hit piece. Next will you post that your dinner plates don't self clean?
I have one, And I clean it daily. It still looks as nasty as the cups you're showing, Because it's hard to clean around the springs and bottom. I have a Great idea though. Toss the cup in the garbage, And never buy a Contigo coffee cup again!!
I have the same problem! I bought 4 and they all are like this. I clean the bottles daily completely. I noticed when I dumped the water out to clean them after about 1 month of use black gunk coming out in the water. I have a new one that has never been used and will be returning it. The water stays very cold but the tops harbor bacteria. I will be contacting the company to ask for a refund. Very unfortunate!
These bottles are for mostly WATER. They are NOT for hot liquids or carbonated drinks. I can almost bet that the bottles she is showing have been used for other than water. Also why would you even put those tops in the dishwasher? It's best to hand wash them. #2 It clearly states to store the top off the bottle so that it dries properly. I can see that NONE of those directions were followed in this video. This is NOT contiguous fault. This is BAD user error.
I bet you felt like crap for a while. That's black mold honey. Please get a physical and blood work and let your Dr know you were exposed to black mold. Hugs

I just rinse out the bottle and lid and then air dry for several hours or overnight until completely dry.

Do you undo the four screws and pull it apart every day? The only way I’ve found to get into all the nooks and crannies is to use a waterpik.
