I’m sure I’ll be humbled when I get back to the shop tonight and realize you’re a master due to years of experience. Hopefully these videos can help speed up my learning curve. I started carving lures but mostly paint the bulk mail order blanks for everyday use (& hurts less to lose). Main reason I have gotten away from carving wood is the issue with proper wood and weight to get action I want. I’m always falling short of action I want and even if I get it correct, I end up with a 5 inch (12.7 cm😉) bass lure that weights a pound and a half (.680 kg). Then I need a shark rod & reel combo to cast it. Im exaggerating but you get the idea. Just curious what you’ve had success with on smaller lures pertaining to type wood, weight placement and things like that in general. Love the videos. I’ve tried to NOT watch them this summer so I can look up all your stuff & binge watch them and get me through winter 😁👍
Well it really depends on what your making some woods are not suitable for certain lure types. Like you would not want to make a glide bait from balsa.

Man the construction and paint jobs on your lures is incredible if you could make me a lure I would pay you for it. I do a lot of striper fishing where I’m from and a realistic blue back herring or river herring pencil popper would be fire.

Ive been having issues some days when airbrushing contrasting colours close to each other, especially white and black, the paint would come out grainy, without the smooth blend and random bigger specs of paint would end up where its not wanted. Ive tried reducing the paint more and also dropped my psi, to some extent it helped but i still have a grainy look. I tend to spray the belly of the lure last, but then some of the white would end up high on the flanks, but it can only be seen when you tilt the lure at an angle. If i spray the belly first at times i would get some specs of the usually darker colour from the back on some part of the belly. I've tried reducing the paint more as mentioned above, ive tried reducer and retarder/flow enhancer and dropping psi. I can use stencils to avoid this but i prefer the blended look for some lures as opposed to the hard line from a stencil. Anything else I could try to avoid these problems?
@@SolarfallBaits I do a full clean after every spray session, but it makes sense in some way that most of my problems come at the end of a session when there has been a fair amount of paint and colour that has gone through the same airbrush. I do clean quite well between colour changes to avoid random bits of different colours getting where they shouldn't. Thank you for taking the time to reply 🤘😎
Beautiful painting, you make it look effortless. I've tied flies for 40 years and recently started airbrushing lures, you taught me a couple nice tricks on this video. I love your epoxy finish, what brand is it? We're fishing walleyes so tough is essential. Please share some more I just subscribed to your page
Thats great to hear, I bet you could teach me a thing or 2 about fly tying. The epoxy i use is true coat epoxy, made by a fellow lure maker of true glide lures.
I’ve been watching your channel for a long time and I know you have a lot of experience with making masters for molds. I’m getting ready to build my first mold master and I intend on making the tail section slotted and pinning a flexible tail. My question is, will I run into problems if I make the slot on the master and incorporate it into the mold, or is the slot something that should be cut in after each bait is molded?

Its most likely your airbrush so what i would do is clean it thoroughly and see if the problem persists.

I had no idea you could tape over fresh airbrush paint? I was always worried it would pull the paint off? I'll try this next time!

you should be okey if you cut the slot before molding.

Its just a normal sharpie i cover the signature in 5 minute epoxy before i put on the top coats so that the writing does not get smeared later on.
