One, i think its scripted and two my mom used to answer questions for me at the doctor’s too. I was shy but I was open with my mom and my mom knows when I truly don’t feel good or when I just need a check up. I haven’t had to answer these kinds of questions but not necessarily in this situation, some kids may not feel comfortable or feel shy speaking to a doctor so parents answer for them. I think its fine if parents do that as long as the parent truly understands and hopefully the kid expresses how they feel so the parent can say it for them. And no, my mom isn’t controlling, like I said I was shy and I was like that with most people I just met or certain people I would even see often. I understand the patient is supposed to answer but in some situations the parent knows or is just trying to get an answer whether that makes them a Karen or not.

At 38, I advocate the hell out of life, only to be treated less than because I have a disability. I have hdhd and when i was acting out they put me on medication and it made me a lot worse and i stopped eating and sleeping aswell as getting depression and anxiety and one day my parents took me off my medication and my teachers told me i was doing fantastically well that day and after my dad found out he was livid ,these supposed 'specialists' gave me the wrong medicine and diagnosed me with adhd in a very mild form and gave me the wrong dosage, so after that i completley stopped taking the medicine anf i have grown soooo much over the years i am doing well in all my subjects but most particularly art and technology studies (buildings and architecture) In the end it isnt a bad things to have hdhd its what makes us human and its not a good idea to worry about labeling yourself as HDHD because why do you have to conform to what a person that doesnt even know you says

ADHD wasn't a 'thing' when I was at school. I just got sent to the headmaster or the library. I spent so much time in the library that I ended up collecting antique books as an adult! They also had me tutoring the younger kids in the end, which was great. I never learned how to remember things without an organiser/notes/lists/phone reminders, as my brain just doesn't work that way. But as difficult as it was, I'm glad I wasn't just medicated as I was forced to learn alternative coping methods that I still use today. Now I can build my own version of a 'school' for kids that are having the same issues. I don't think classroom-based learning works for everyone, or that it even SHOULD work for everyone.

Hence me at 14 hiding in the bathroom for being given a detention for forgetting my homework diary and feeling very lost and in tears, and at 10 to be told I wasn’t clever enough when all along it wasn’t about me being thick/dumb but that I had adhd and I needed a different method. A parent that supports their child and recognizes their strengths and weaknesses is a parent who accepts their child for who they are. A short doctor's appointment, that the family has been waiting for, is not the place to take time to improve cognitive and social development. We practice before going to appointments, my son knows why we are going to the appointment, we review everything that he feels the need to address and I support him during the appointment so we can all use the time as efficiently as possible. This dramatization is terribly offputting and I don't know about you but I have never sat in a doctor's office in such a configuration. Remember the parent is trying to help their child succeed in life. I would be neglectful if I didn't help my child in the ways he needs help.
