150$ 2.1 speakers for 400$, what a deal!
That's insane pricing for c tier audio. Audioengine speakers that NZXT clearly ripped off are the same price and sound much better.
I knew they were clones of something and I couldn't remember the exact brand, but there we go
a logitech g560 2.1 system is a lot more value and sounds amazing and has rgb what can sample the screen for nicer experience
Audioengine speakers are also overpriced for what they are. Micca's RB42 passive bookshelf speakers punch way above their weight class at $150 and can be powered by just about any decent ChiFi Class D or T amplifier. Pretty decent audio can be had for under $200. That subwoofer also looks horribly inadequate with that 6.5" woofer also. For $150, there are quite a few decent options that likely offer more and cleaner extension. If that were my budget, I'd go with the Dayton Audio 10" SUB-1000 all day long. Or heck, just visit your local pawn shop and see what people are getting rid of. I've found some crazy deals at pawn shops and garage sales, like a pair of Yamaha HS5 studio monitors for only $50.
The headphone stand seems like the most appealing thing to me, but at $130 US, I’ll probably just try to make my own version instead
I just have soundswitch and some macro keys set up that do pretty much the same thing, can highly recommend if you want a free alternative to the stand
@@shidqi100 it's soundswitch aaflalo
Free software with keybinds, I put mine to Alt + up arrow to switch input and alt+down arrow for output switch
I'm pretty sure pc audio was solved a long time ago with USB soundcards and actual studio monitors :D
I can't even how LMG didn’t care to use Genelec speakers earlier. Everything else is just meh
@@toseltreps1101 You don't even need to go up to genelecs, a pair of T5Vs would curb stomp these for the same price. Horrible value.
For the $400 of the speakers and "subwoofer", you can get a pair of Adam T5vs with similar levels of bass extension and much less distortion (probably). I don't see the value here.
Yes. Also I've been using a Mackie Big Knob for monitor/headphone control for years and it works really well; plus it's more aimed at amateur music creators and therefore has a lot more functionality. Doesn't look as nice though, and I do like the switchmix as a succint device for when you don't want to faff around. The button on the headphone rack is cool.
We need desktop sound options listed out, it's so hard to find the right option
Yeah pricing is horrible... Think i paid less for my pair of Genelecs (used yes but buying audio gear new never made sense to me not counting headphones due to hygene)
@@jaquestraw1 They are cheap and sound great and measure well. Not overpriced.
Ok but, studio monitors exist. Once more gaming peripherals proving to be utterly terrible value.
I mean... you get two monitors for $250 instead of paying $250 each for monitors... not only that a soundcard/interface is mandatory so that's an extra $250.. and then cables and stands .... $150 max. Gamers want something affordable that you can plug and play.
yeah my edifier ones are bigger and sound better and have more bass without a sub
@@redvivid you can certainly get a more decent pair with that amount of money like presonus, m-audio, or save a little more for a pair of yamaha HS5
@@redvivid edifier man, i got the s3000 pro and the result is really good paired with the wharfedale sw150 sub and 2 sonos era 100 for rear sound
Those speakers are pretty expensive in comparison to lots of studio monitors from good brands. A KRK Rokit RP7 G4 are about $200 and has a 48W tweeter and a 97W woofer, for example.
And he really had the audacity (or marching orders lol) to say he was "impressed".... 🤢
why are you looking at power as a performance metric???? why not look at the horrendous subwoofer that can only extend down to 45hz and even worse, the speakers themselves that only extend to 70hz???
Without usb, optical, and Bluetooth inputs, and only 3” drivers those speakers are seriously over priced. I have a pair a jamo powered s801s with all those features, bigger drivers, and less money. And would probably curb stomp those sound wise.
Soundswitch is a free app that you can keybind the action of switching audio devices. I keybind F3 and it swaps between the set devices for playback. Also works for recording. Much better than spending a bunch of money on a compromise solution just to solve this problem.
I'm glad someone else mentioned it. Back when I needed to swap between ARC and headphones, this was my go-to. It did cause some kernel panics every now and again though...
I use it all the time to switch my output to my TV and back again when enabling Big Picture Mode on Steam.
nircmd.exe also works fine to switch audio devices, paired with AutoHotkey or Python to make it a hotkey.
I also use soundswitch, however it would be super cool to have a physical switch that inputs the hokey when you place your headset on it like the device.
These aren't a good deal; they are overpriced and underperformed. The 305P MkII is exponentially better, and overall a better value. It can be found on sale or used for almost half the price.
The NZXT speakers are $250/pair - I don't see the 305P MkII available for less than $150/speaker anywhere
Obviously used stuff is a better deal than new stuff
The Edifier speakers are even better value. You can get the R1280T for about $120, and the form factor makes them even better fitted for sitting on or around a desk.
@@deuswulf6193 R1280T are quite bad for the money.
Edifier MR4 is much better and if the budget is that low, I would get Creative Pebble V2/V3. Add a sub later and you're set.
@@Tealc2323 I strongly disagree. The MR4 not only cost more, but as studio monitors they end up being more on the flat side in terms of audio. The R1280T and those in that line will provide a much richer audio experience, and for less. The wood side panels contribute to better acoustics, and it also has more than one input.
For content consumption, they are a much better option than the MR4's imo.
After switching to a pair of $100-150 edifier bookshelf speakers, I realized you don't need a subwoofer with those. Its enough to shake the desk they sit upon when the bass is cranked up. I bet they sound much better than NZXT's over priced Relay speakers and sub.
Same here. I’ve got the Edifier R1280DBs, and they’re perfect bookshelf speakers for my PC. A very big upgrade from the old Logitech speakers that I used to have. They sound great and they’re only $150 AUD which is just over $100 USD, so they’re also quite affordable. I also use a program called Equalizer APO with the Peace GUI to get a more balanced sound profile on them too though. BTW, with that program, you can download a configuration program for it named AutoEQ that has hundreds of speakers and headphones tuned by audiophiles like Crinicle and Oratory1991. For my ATH-M40X’s it made them sound much nicer.
Don’t need a subwoofer but it definitely helps. Allows you to get more bass without shaking the desk since it won’t be on said desk, and it should dig deeper. I use a pair of Micca MB42x with a cheap 12” Monoprice sub I picked up on sale and works great. Doesn’t dig as deep as my HSU VTF-MK3s but I can actually fit the Monoprice under my desk.
The labs results are killing it!!!🔥
I would say the opposite. The smoothing, specifically the 1/1, is straight up lying. The 1/3 is more honest, but also reveals some of the shortcomings and problem areas of these speakers. I would 2ish for an even lesser smoothing. These are not good measuring speakers. If you want to see good speakers measured go to asr(audiosciencereview) and look for some genelecs or neumanns. I get that the lab is in between no information and actual precise measurements to appeal to the average lmg user, but I feel, that working with the smoothing and not going into the problems in measurements (for example the abysmal performance in 2-4khz with the headphones) does the user not much good.
Love having a reviewer that knows nothing about the product category and just reads whats on the box, amazing work
I wonder; is it possible for you guys doing short circuit unboxings, to also check the repairability (of the most commonly breaking pieces, like ear cushions, mics, cables) of the stuff you review? For me personally it's really important that I can repair my stuff, in order to use them for as long as possible and to reduce e-waste. Anf if you were to include that in your reviews, it could maybe push manifacturers to make stuff more repairable.
That would be more like a LTT video than a Short Circuit video, but I do want to see such video as well
Ear cushions however, would be the easiest as you can purchase them separately, or purchase through a 3rd-party manufacturer (check their latest under $100 tech video)
@ the lab could do the testing but SC could do the mentioning, I'd love to see more pressure being put on manufacturers to make stuff repairable
Kinda impressed by the mic quality compared to a lot of stuff out there. Even high end stuff often sounds like garbage
"high end stuff"? You probably mean expensive. XLR mics (xlr is the name of the connector, not a brand) connected to an external audio board are the high end
@@marcogenovesi8570 yeah this sounds like garbage compared to professional audio. "high end stuff" probably means overpriced shit
@@marcogenovesi8570 I'm pretty sure he's talking about gaming headsets with integrated microphones, not a separate mic setup.
I have a senhiser gsx 500 and if I plug it into my motherboard the mic sounds like garbage but when I use my sbz sound card the mic sound over 9000 times better
It's cause it's wired and not Bluetooth. Bluetooth is ass at sending and receiving data at the same time with good quality.
ok is pretty impressive how fast the switching stand is & that's probably the one component i would want to buy
Yooooo! Hats off to Adam for shouting out Big K.R.I.T.'s My Sub series. Part 3 Is definitely my favorite!! BIG BANG!!
Definitely didn’t see that coming lol. Think the first might be my favorite.
@@kevins184 Bruh I did a double-take so fast! Like wait he just dropped My Sub Pt.3 ???
Imagine having to buy a volume controller because NZXT moved it at the BACK of the stuff
This would be more interesting if they also included a multi-input (the 3.5mm-based mini-TOS makes the most sense here, as you get copper and optical in one port, plus a bluetooth input would be nice) mixer, that way it's not just a PC setup but also handles other consoles, set-top boxes (or TV sticks via audio-out), or even a secondary PC/laptop, etc.
I paid the price of just the subwoofer for my Teufel Concept E Magnum back somewhere around 2003-2005ish, which is a full 5.1 setup that still rocks today. I wish there was a similar audio solution these days for a similar price. _THAT_ would fix PC audio. Not having to pay thrice as much for way less.
Ooooh I remember that Teufel system. I had the Concept E Magnum as well. The price/performance was amazing. Good times.
I stll have the creative from 2004 because the logitech z906 is the only option that i saw was really for PC; it cost here around $700 US or more 😅
@@FhargaZ Still got a Creative/Cambridge Soundworks FPS1600 4.1 around as well. Was my first surround setup that I got in 1998 with my SB Live! Value. That really was a big game changer back in the day. The last time I actually used it (like 5-6 years ago by now) it still worked perfectly fine as well. That thing was like 69 bucks (nice!) or so... imagine getting actual surround audio for that these days... uncredible (=unbelievably incredible, in case you might wonder)! XD
One oversight with the speakers though is that they are rear ported. Generally you want rear ported speaker to be 2-3 feet forward from walls for the best sound quality. Last I checked most gaming setups I see are up against walls.
Nah, there is no such rule and it doesn't matter whether the speakers are rear ported, front ported or not ported at all.
For the port to work properly it only needs as much space behind as its diameter.
The effect of putting pretty much any speakers against the wall is very simple - it boosts the bass.
@@n0xtshoving a rear ported speaker does increase the bass but it muddies it and generally decreases sound quality and messes with the frequency response. quit spouting uninformed nonsense
@@n0xt "it doesn't matter whether the speakers are rear ported, front ported or not ported at all." is complete nonsense. of course it matters otherwise it wouldnt be a practice at all. shoving a rear ported speaker up against the wall muddies the bass and 'increases' it by distorting the signature.
"For the port to work properly it only needs as much space behind as its diameter. " this is also completely false and i genuinely cant even fathom what hole of yours you pulled this out from
@@xScurn Presence of a port or its location doesn't change the dispersion pattern of the speaker. It will be omnidirectional in the low frequencies for the vast majority of speakers out there. Thus the effects attributable to the distance from the back wall are the same regardless of the port.
Regarding the minimum distance from the back wall: you can check the recommendations from manufacturers that take their engineering and customers seriously, such as Genelec or Dynaudio.
Keep in mind that "minimal distance from the back wall to assure that the port is working properly" is not the same as "optimal distance from the back wall to achieve the best sound". The latter will depend on the speaker, the room and whether you use equalization.
Will the headset stand inout switching work if you're using a wireless headset from another brand, or do the headphones have to be plugged into the dac thing?

aaaaaannnnnnddddd added to my sound system playlist. Thank you for the rec ❤
The way I handle multiple outputs is a macro keyboard (Redragon K585) and a free software (Audioswitch) and the hotkeys are like alt+ctrl+shift+[F-key], which will be mapped to the macro keyboard. As for why multiple outputs, headphones for surround sound gaming, speakers for comfortable/movie and IEM for accurate sounds.
The system i have that works pretty well and i wished they have a refresh of this product is the Razer Tiamat 7.1 ver 2. They come with a toggle between devices and i can adjust each speaker level. I havent seen anything else like it, but id love something new and similar to that.
Scarlet 2i2 has already given me the main functionality of this, but the surround sound support is interesting since scarlet doesn’t support it.
The headset stand is neat for switching sources like that. I wonder if that has been done already.
even the reviewer couldn't fake enjoyment. if you guys are in need of these products, you can get better quality and price to performance. with peace and love
the headphone stand with the button is amazing, need to get that
Exactly the channel I was looking to review this! You don't miss a beat!
Power supplies are almost always the first thing to go on powered speakers so actually well done to NZXT for having an external power supply, everything should have an external power supply that you can replace for $20-30 dollars because good luck trying to source and replace a proprietary internal power supply in speakers
An interesting idea I've always had but never see (the closest is the N64) is a cavity in a product which has the space to hold a removable power supply. It would be a waste of space in smaller, space constricted speakers like these though.
I need that stand. seriously that'll be a game changer for any desk setups.
Having an easy way to switch between Headphones and Speakers is truly a gamechanger, and I would personally recommend, for those with the budget and use case, to look into JDS Labs' Element III AMPDAC, a beautiful headphone AMP & DAC with an additional PREAMP out for Speakers, and you can switch between those outputs with the click of a button, and it's your choice whether it's the all metal and insanely great-feeling big volume knob, or a button at the rear.
The device has a little OLED screen and can be programmed pretty deep to fit your hardware and preferences, and the build quality is beyond amazing.
For my speakers I haven't used anything with an analogue connection for well over a decade now, I just use the S/PDIF out from the motherboard into my amp and a decent pair of monitors - currently running a set of Monitor Audio Bronze 2's as I'm in a small room through a Pioneer CD/Tuner head unit.
Pretty much what i was gonna say. Been using recivers for at least 12 years meow. Have a pair of yamaha pc studio drivers from the 90s though that still work great to this day.
steelseries old wireless headphones lineup had that feature that passes audio to your speakers when you turn off your headphones
I love that you use Big K.R.I.T. for a sound test! One of my favorites
Klipsch's 2.1 system was my first 'good' PC speaker setup. Hard to imagine that these are that much better for $300 more.
Headset mic kinda looks and sounds like the one on the Cooler Master MH752 but with a foam pop filter added; it sounds really good for an integrated headset mic. I wonder if Takstar is the OEM for this headset like the MH752 and HyperX Cloud II?
If the stand was in white I'd buy it for my setup in a heartbeat alone and replace the manual switcher I'm already using to go between speakers and headphones
Really loving the concept of the headphone stand piece, if they release that as a under desk piece with a additional port for mic i know a lot of people that will be 100% in on that.
The Switchmix modified to fit under the desk would sweet for my setup.
The whole rig is $630 US. If you already have a decent headset, you might as well just get some studio monitors and a pro boom mic for a lot less money.
Wow i'm very impressed with the boom mic. Really good!
When how loud the speakers are = how good they are 😂
5:22 i think smaller sub might actually be better if these speakers are intended to be used in like teenagers bedroom that is relatively small because that small room will most likely cause an increase in bass anyway so there is no need for huge sub. also putting the sub near wall will also boost bass and i assume most people will put this sub near wall.
I have 2 JBL Professional LS305 Near Field Monitor speakers on stands on either side of the desk running through XLR into a Scarlet 2i2. Then for headphones, everything goes through my GoXLR mini. I use my StreamDeck XL to trigger switching audio sources from Bar Raider tools and it allows me to easily swap between without having to dink around with a headphone stand and button. All in all, probably a similar cost to the full kit there but much better audio quality and sound. To each their own I reckon.
Until I heard the price, I was nearly convinced to buy and try the speakers and the subwoofer (why are they even sold separately?!). But for 400$? Are they crazy?! I paid for my Logitech Z623 90€ (~100$) and I have these since 2014 and I bet the NZXT aren't that much better to justify the price.
use 1/12 smoothing for future frequency responses of speakers, headphones etc.
i'm not a sound talking guy but isn't a lack of grills "good" because nothing is blocking the audio out? or does it depend or not matter?
I have the Creative T60's(£70 right now), which have a headphone jack on the back, and a button that swaps between the 2. The speakers connect via USB, so it's plugged into a USB hub that I can swap between my work and personal PCs to allow me to use the same audio equipment on both without faff. This seems to be solving a problem that hasn't existed for a long time... Stand seems cool though.
Really nice video and I actually like this setup. Super clean and all the products seem to be relatively good. The price for the headphone + stand is a bit steep though.
The stand wins it for me. Never seen something like that with the button system 👍
that headphone stand kinda impressed me. Too bad, it would be great if they make a hanging version as there are no more space on my desk to accomodate a stand like that
How do you connect the speakers directly to thew motherboard without the relay? I using an x570 Auros Master
i wonder if the switch mix works with any old dac or if it has to be this nzxt dac
Still rocking the old Corsair SP2500's, don't see a reason to change them out still lol
I just got the new Switch mix but it seems like the volume from the NZXT speaker and subwoofer speakers are much lower than they were when they were plugged directly into my PC.
The speakers i really want it but idk if it is better than the Kanto Yu2 or the Audioengine a2+ with both their subwoofers
The Krit shoutout really won me over
While I'd love the headstand with the "instant" switch. I gotta stick with my cheap Vizio soundbar. It's good enough for when I don't want to wear headphones. I do wonder how the ear pads hold up over time. My Corsair HS70 are disintegrating day by day.
Why don't the produt links go to correct Amazon pages? It just opens Amazon search and the product is not there??
I hope that in the future you guys could let some of your colleagues try them out for their quick short opinions on the fit and comfort as well. Especially those with larger or smaller heads or more oval or squarish faces, e.t.c. I am sure you guys can't cover every possible head shape and size but a larger number of data from different users would help everyone to better judge if it might be discomforting for them or not.
There have been quite a few headsets and headphones that my friends and I bought online because of all the good reviews and critiques only to be unable to use them due to the discomfort or even pain from using them. A lot of the headphones like for example the Virtuoso and Drop headsets are not in any local stores here and can't be tried and tested for the fit so its always a gamble.
Can the stand be used without a PC? That will be great to connect with monitor audio out so all input can benefit from this auto audio out switching
I wonder if they are going to make one for digital audio
For the price of the speakers and sub, you could get some higher quality powered monitors and a sub from various other speaker manufacturers that would outperform these. I like NZXT, but I don't think their name/brand is worth a $200 premium for the speakers and sub.
some of these headset mics are getting surprisingly good
My Logitech Z623's have a similar or slightly higher RMS power for more than half the price, plus the volume and bass nobs are on the front of the speaker which is very convenient. Not sure what NZXT was doing with these, seems like many QOL features were an after thought.
How do these compare to the audio engine A5 bamboo ??
can it relay the sound from your behind the monitor speakers to the front?
But on a serious note: i hate removable (and not stowawayable) mikes. Because you can never find the bloody thing when you need it.
Sometimes people pay attention to graphics too much and underdo sound.
The headphone flipper thing is pretty cool actually.
i actually impressed about switchmix , that was neat when switching from speaker to headphone .
would the headset stand also work with wireless headphones or just wired?
Man something like this is tempting I currently use a jbl 5.1 sound bar and 10in. Subwoofer it absolutely slams it’s very very good easily one of the best sound bars I’ve ever heard alongside Sonos stuff and the subwoofer is no joke when you turn up the bass it is like a PA in a club it thumps HARD
I like the switch mix thing lol. Can we get one for wireless headphones lol? With a USB jack for their dongle or Bluetooth.
I use the klipsch 2.1 computer speakers. Cost $130-150 and my sister uses the Logitech equivalent with optical-in for same price. Both these are just as good, if not better than the NZXT stuff, plus both have their volume control and bass adjustments in the front. And no power brick
I've had Logitech 2.1s for like 15 years (they were like $70 back then), and they still sound great during near-field listening (e.g., while sitting at my desk, staring at my desktop monitor).
WHY WAS I LOOKING UP A REVIEW FOR THIS LIKE AN HOUR AGO, Y’ALL ARE READING MY MIND
Is it the audio interface or the stand that changes the input?
Is there something going on different in this video? Seems we have less than 24 frames or something like that.
I have Steelseries Arena 7 how does this compare?
Is the earpad easy to clean or replace?
guys, you didnt show the IO layout of the switchmix. im dying to know how they did it. is it the usbc to usba cable you jarringly stated?
Switch stand is actually such a cool product
Should be better with mini xlr connector for boom arms mic and out from headphone...
for the price of this tat you could actually buy some studio grade powered monitors
You could buy an av receiver and bookshelf speakers for those prices
That microphone sounds surprisingly good for a boom mic. It's not amazing, but rather than being "okay for a boom mic" it's "an okay mic", very good result for a piece that most manufacturers consider a throw away.
Serious Question: If you have 2 or 3 Monitors, where would you put the main speakers?
Left and right of my Monitors, not only would they be 90-100° apart, my two monitors are not symmetrical. I have one directly in front of me and another on my left.
Do I put them behind my Monitors? Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of chasing good quality audio if I compromise on sound by placing an obstacle between the upper part of the speaker and myself?
Am I committing what audiophiles generously describe as "Blasphemy" and just laying them on their sides so they fit under my monitor? (yes, this negatively affects sound quality according to both the LTT Forum and my Local Teufel Shop)
Or do I have to buy Speaker Stands (/wall-mount them) so they are above my monitors firing downwards?
This Formfactor just seems to be not designed with a multi-monitor setup in mind. How many people have 7.3" (18.54cm) of space below their monitors?
It seems like you would need a smaller set of primary speakers so they can fit under the primary monitor. Maybe a small 2.1 sound bar or the steelseries arena 7 IF AND ONLY IF you MUST use speakers. Tbh I think a high quality DAC/Amp combo and some nice headphones are better at most price ranges for smaller setups
@@thisisbeanton I bought a soundbar last year for that reason. Got a good deal on a Katana V2.
I am just genuinely curious that I've not seen others talk about that issue. It just seems like something that should be a very common problem.

Ok Adam you just hit me with one of those rare moments where two of my worlds combine, and that's with the combination of tech nerd and Big Krit fan!
