  • Sue Cook and Nick Ross present. Cases include the murder of Doris Shelley in Martlesham, Suffolk, a robbery in which two police officer were shot in Poole, Dorset, a robbery in Exeter and the murder of Richard Miles in Newtown, Stroud, Gloucestershire.
    The Richard Miles one is a good reconstruction, another scary man - not quite as bad as the Michael Williams one.

    I find it strange that Richard Miles' boss would go out looking for him because he was late coming back for lunch. I mean he went home at 1:30PM His mother found him in the back yard at 3:30PM. So just how long did his boss leave it before he hunted for him. The boss saying he went there to look for him covers himself in case his car was spotted there at or near the scene.
    Makes you wonder if any illegal insurance work was going on there, scamming insurance companies for larger payouts. Or even working on cars in hit & run crimes. Richard could have been struggling with his conscience with something like that & made a criminal ring take action. 3 older connected men were arrested although 2 of them were released. The third was released for lack of evidence later. Either that or he had a secret lover. It usually Money, sex or drugs.

      He's only been convicted of 3 murders and a string of rapes on Plumstead Common but he has to have been responsible for more. He was schizophrenic so he wouldn't have just stopped but as is already been pointed out, his victims were all young women with children, even one of the murder victims was a kid, so I don't see him killing older women, especially as his motive was always sexual.

    I was at the Kesgrave Hall boarding school in early 1993 (Kesgrave is the next village west, inside the Ipswich by-pass) when Doris Shelley was murdered and I'm amazed that this is the first I've heard of it. Enough psychos there over the years, both pupils and staff. Some of the staff used to drink in the Black Tiles pub in Martlesham and one guy got sacked for taking a bunch of fifth formers for a pint or two or ten there. This was horrific and it's scary that whoever did this could still be out there.

      @Joe Anderson
      There doesn't seem to be anything "snobby" about it.
      The [actor's] age, dress, demeanor, lack of ""appreciation"" for the car, all make it seem as if he doesn't "fit" with it.
      Spending £25,000 (in 1993) on a car - finance or no - isn't likely to encourage a "taken for granted" approach about such an automobile.
      The driver, would be expected to reciprocate with the great amount of money spent to purchase the car, by doing whatever may be necessary, to look after it.
      Let's take a more extreme example: eating McDonald's in a Maybach 62 whilst dressed in a JD Sports tracksuit/hoodie.
      You spend many, many tens of thousands of your hard earned pounds, on the best quality of materials, clearly being aware of what it is you need to do, in order to generate such wealth - very, very astutely.
      You don't just *_physically_* work hard - you also pay very careful attention to _how_ you ensure you earn such money.
      You discover what it is that helps others *around* you to earn money for you, and what destroys that possibility.
      Dress, what kind of music you listen to, how you communicate, what sort of food and drink you consume...they all contribute to how well both you, and your staff reciprocate with each other in business.
      The example I give about the "Maybach McDonald's", epitomises the very opposite of it, and this in turn, would (or _should)_ ring alarm bells to anyone with even the tiniest amount of discernment regarding why such a character profile wouldn't "fit" with such a car.
      I hope this clarifies the matter.

      Ha, for all the outpouring over the Bulger case the Lawrence case received little publicity outside of the South East until Nelson Mandela got involved-to the media it was just another crime in a bad area involving a black guy-who the media painted as a criminal /up to no good when in reality he was just an ordinary guy. The cops working the case were corrupt-taking bungs from one of the suspects dad's & many of them were racist. Living in Kent I can remember it being a big story on my regional BBC & ITV news shows, but didn't make any real impact on the national broadcasts until Mandela spoke on it during a UK visit-same thing happened with Damilola Taylor in 2000 initially.
