Public Health Solutions to Climate Change Problems

  • Much of the conversation around climate change centers on things like lowering carbon emissions, which is obviously critical, but we think the public health response to climate change should be a larger part of the conversation. Whatever we do moving forward to address climate change, there’s no avoiding the fact that we will still face public health consequences of climate impacts. That sucks, but we can soften the blow if we prepare ourselves.

😄Thanks so much for your continued efforts making these videos! They're thoughtful, evidence-based, and climate change, sugar-free, and immunization are topics I care about deeply! (Like, I'm fat and my mom's had type 2 her whole life! 🍬) Very easy to share too!

“I accepted to come to this meeting to have a sober and mature conversation. I’m not in any way signing up to any discussion that is alarmist. There is no science out there, or no scenario out there, that says that the phase-out of fossil fuel is what’s going to achieve 1.5C.” Sultan Al Jaber, President of COP28
Seems more and more likely, scenario SSP5-8.5 of the IPCC assessment may come to fruition (or at least the higher end of the spectrum). I say enjoy what you can, while you still can; pity the generations to come.

      Yeah.
We're not going to slow it down. Millions will die.

      You’re quoting an oil exec.

Our generations should not “enjoy what you can; while you still can”. Given the recent pledges and changes in energy production, less catastrophic scenarios are far more likely.
We need to do everything we can to slow down climate change. The next 2-3 decades will be crucial.

🙂Although statements like this oil exec's are no good for helping slow climate change, there are other countries that are still working on reducing greenhouse-gas emissions. Even China, a country still transitioning people out of farms and/or poverty, and into a 'high-tech' or 'western' way of life, has made significant contributions. Like, half the reason we've got solar panels that are so cheap in the world, is because China produced _so many_ of them; They've still got plans for a lot of fossil power and energy, but they have the solution _right there_ ready to be installed. (And the rest of the world can continue installing solar too! ☀)

I for one enjoy the fact that the people with the most money to lose from preventing climate change are the ones who can unilaterally decide if we get to do anything about climate change.
