    As a Swede, I find this video HIGHLY accurate. The only thing I'd like to point out is that Stockholm is *extremely* overpriced, and doesn't reflect the rest of the country that well. They KNOW they can get away with those insane price tags because of the tourism. But if you check out the smaller towns just a couple of miles outside the capital, you'll notice that you'll be able to get things for much more managable prices. :)

      I have lived in both Canada & US. also US small town n D.C.
      now live in place 110 kms away from Stockholm.
      by any measuring standard Sweden is much expensive if you compare with North America. typically to fulfill the basic needs.
      obviously it has its perks in medical & education system.
      for a tourist the cost diff matters.
      here I am not comparing the hotel price in Linköping to that of NYC.
      due to the harsh capitalist competition often prices can be unbelievably low in the US. which is not possible in a controlled economy like Sweden.
      I am not supporting the former though.
      just explaining acc to my understanding......why it seems costly to the tourist.
      Also from the vedio it doesn't seem he had only been to Stockholm.

      Oh, I'm not saying that Sweden is cheap by any means. I know it can be pricey for tourists... ^^; I just wanted to point out that Stockholm is a lot more pricey than the rest of the country. I don't know if he has been in other smaller Swedish cities as well though. I just kinda assumed that he was mainly referring to Stockholm because he's filming from that location. But I could be wrong.
      STILL, if you want to visit Sweden and have a tight budget, there are plenty of beautiful cities around the country that are a lot more affordable. ^-^

    We actually don't have that many restaurants dedicated to our own food.
    The best way to try Swedish food is to find a lunchrestaurant, usually only open between 11-14 and are often found near big industries.

    As a Swede I don't get why people in some other countries would even want to wear their outdoor shoes inside their home at all, especially if you have carpet floors. Not just because of the dirt you will drag inside but from a hygiene perspective as well. You need to let your feet air out once in awhile. If you have cold feet just wear indoor slippers instead. The only time I have wore shoes inside was when I stayed at a hotel in Britain with a carpet floor. It was so nasty I didn't want to take my shoes off. Maybe that's why people do it..

It was a quiet ride to to Brigantine for a going-away party for another Au Pair. I heard her telling one of the other Au Pairs, in Swedish, that I was late and didn't call.
      I didn't know how bad a thing it was. But I was angry she didn't explain. I mean, we were a couple. Tell me. Then, I'll know. She came instantly to where I had retreated to the kitchen. She explained there. It was a rare (Swedish) fight. It's a cultural thing. They take it very seriously.

Swedes NEVER volunteer any information unless you ask the right question and even then they will often only give you the basic answer without any added details. I have been to Sweden twice, once as a high school student, and the second time when my daughter went there as an exchange student and I took my wife and other two daughters there to pick her up at the end of her stay. On our second trip, my daughter's host family said that they were going on vacation and graciously offered their apartment for our use during our stay. With the money we saved I rented a van and we traveled from Helsingborg to Stockholm and had an incredible time.
    I would agree with almost everything said here but there are ways to get around the expense. First of all alcohol is expensive so many Swedes take the ferry from Sweden to Denmark to buy there booze and it is not unusual to see them with shopping carts full of booze on the ferry. If you are staying in the southern part of Sweden make sure you plan to take the ferry to Denmark and spend a day or two in Copenhagen, especially Tivoli Gardens. A bit pricey but well worth the money. If you want alcohol buy it in Denmark and take it with you.
    Also if you want to save money both Sweden and Denmark have nice youth hostels, some which allow adults There is a great one in Stockholm that is a restored clipper ship from the early 20th century and you can sleep and eat on board. At the time I was there in the 90' s the price was 15.00 US per person but I'm sure that it has gone up. Still a nice deal though and worth checking out.
    Sweden is a very safe country. I was amazed when we went to the train stations in Sweden and Denmark to see young high school and college students sleeping on the floors and benches in sleeping bags. Most major stations offer lockers and showers for travelers and the kids make the most of this, travelling with nothing more than back packs all over Scandanavia to rock concerts and other entertainment venues. I asked a guard in Stockholm if the kids presented a problem and he told me that several years back there was a murder and the government forbade further sleeping in the stations The kids petitioned the government to relent promising that they would police themselves and make sure that any illegal or violent activity would be reported to the police and they hadn't had single incidence since. Try that in America

P-etter-son, but exactly like Peterson. I will never ever eat the stuff, it has the consistency of slimy goo. In the US they have festivals in Minnesota mainly, and Lutefiik is the big dish. Hardcore tip when it comes to surströmming. Open it in a bucket of water. That way the fermented juices doesnt comes out at high pressure through your first hole in the can. Really helps with the smell and makes the whole entrance to the experience more pleasant. Note: Surströmming is a food you have to get used to. The first time you had coffee you probably didnt like it. Same thing here just on a larger scale.

The mass migration of incompatible cultures with no cultural of historical relationship to Sweden is dividing society and effectively creating states within a state. As a Native Californian that lives in Sweden, I recommend the Swedish West Coast South of Gothenburg (Göteborg). Stockholm is great and all but the beaches they call sand are gravel and grass and the water is not salt water. West Coast is real sand beaches and the water is salt water. It smells like home (but the air is clean). Lot's of interesting things to see, but when you get out of Göteborg, though the public transportation is great, you will want to rent a car to get to several of the interesting places. Car rental is about the same as stateside, but gas will cost you about 3 times more.

    • @TalesOfWar
      @TalesOfWar Před 3 lety

      My friend lives a few dozen kilometres south of Gothenburg and one thing that struck me we just how incredibly flat the place is, a massive contrast to up north where it's mountainous. Also forests everywhere! Being from the UK, even though it's still rather green here, it's mostly fields for farming and very little in the way of forest. It's also rather hilly around me (Manchester area) so the flatness was more obvious lol. Another thing that's instantly obvious when you get back home to the UK is just how clean the place is in comparison. I guess that's partly down to the fact there's far fewer people living there and I take off and land at a major city that tend to be a little more rough around the edges than some more out there smallish towns miles from big population centres.

    • @Nyonics
      @Nyonics Před 4 lety

      How does the line culture translate into driving, in the event that you're driving somewhere?
      Is it rude to pass people on the road at all, or would they only get upset at people passing unsafely and the special kind of assholes we have in the USA who like to drive all the way up to the, "lane closed," signs and cut in front of everyone who merged a long time ago and waited patiently?

    • @MrEmiosk
      @MrEmiosk Před 4 lety

      @@Nyonics Its standard here. Road culture in Sweden is piss poor where everyone is only concerned with themselves. We only give way cause where you got damaged and witnesses determines who is at fault. If some one cuts in front of you after a turn signal and then he hard breaks, you that are behind is responsible. same if you nose his side you should have given way for him. It has bred such a horrible road environment compared to other places.
      There's also very few road cops around so no one bothers about road laws and rules except which side you are on, and as long as you yourself can't be held accountable for the damages no one cares then about how they drive.
      At least when I went outside of Sweden for the first time and experienced another road culture did I realise just how horrible it really is in Sweden. Outside the country people are mindful of you, helps you get through traffic and even set paces along the roads based not on the speed limit but on the general traffic situation. Holds and respect safety distances for braking.
      I have yet to meet a person who cut in line at a lane closed at a construction site or something like that. But if you drive 2kmph lower than the speed limit they will do everything in their power to find a opportunity to pass you over, and get rude and aggressive towards you for even daring to slow them down. They even do it and put their lives at risk trying to pass in dangerous situations (and most of their solutions is to put the pedal to the metal... only surviving because me and the oncoming traffic hard breaks. People even pass you only to take the next exit of the highway 100m in front (300feet)
