One thing is crystal clear here… this author has been so upset by Corny’s criticisms of Matt & Nick, that he completely failed to actually listen to what those critiques were. Of course he doesn’t like their choreographed gymnastics. If you were a fan of pro wrestling pre 2000, you’d understand how ridiculous it looks. But his main issue, just like he says in this clip, was always how they (& Page, & Omega, & their high school clique) conducted themselves, specifically off camera.
And ironically, there’s nothing that illustrates today’s “neo-conservatism” more than being really upset about something you are unable to correctly specify or define. I understand “today’s smart fans,” are overwhelmingly young, so it would be understandable if this piece of advice was something they hadn’t heard before… Nevertheless, it’s something they’d (especially said author) would be wise to take note of - Talk less…Listen more… that way you won’t have to taste your foot quite so much.

I look back and think my happiest time as a wrestling fan was before everyone and their brother was "smart" (that includes me). I don't think it's a coincidence my fanaticism started to wane roughly around the time the internet age started to take off (1999/2000)--(I've been an on/off fan since but the WWE has gotten pretty the last few years). Because it no longer was about watching, it was now about backstage stuff, who's politicking, workrate, etc. Basically taking what is, if we're being honest, a "moron" sport and treating it like rocket science. Most modern fans (ie--people who think the Attitude/Monday Nigh Wars era is the starting point/pinnacle of wrestling.) have this affliction--worse, they've tried to attach some social conscious to it (count how many time fans will say "cte", hard to watch, problematic, toxic, etc in their blatherings). To paraphrase a line from Catch-22, they know everything about wrestling except how to enjoy it. Wrestling is basically the rock and roll of sports--it's meant to be offensive, stupid, trashy. To treat it any other way...well, just listen to the guy their talking about or that Brian Zane guy for examples. There's is a point I'm trying to make here I'm sure. Ha! But this is why I want AEW to fail. It's not "competition" or an "alternative", it's some rich kids jackoff exercise, which is why it was doomed to fail from day 1. Cody leaving was your first clue but people didnt want to face it. And it's created a big contigent of lame fans like this. (Congratulations if you made it to the end or made sense of this. Ha!)

And of course everyone is still on pins and needles about the outcome of the entire Family of a troubled young man from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I worry immensely about people going headlong into steel Ringsteps and metal Ladders. For crying out loud, Sting at 62 has decided that he's eager to play the cruelest game in The Sport even though the long term damages are so very evident! Yikes! I didn't write this to be contrarian or confrontational so please tell me if and how I'm wrong on this.🤔B.W.

They gave us a bate and switch!
"Sports based" remember? And what we got instead, is lazy sports entertainment by a bunch of wannabees who would have never been qualified to be actual Pro Wrestlers in the past.
Punk was not the problem. But in order to be victims they need a boogey man!
It is hard to except that Tony Khan knows nothing, but he is just like them! An indy mark with a billionare dad. Only now he has gotten to a point where he does not know what to do. All the suprizes or new belts won't save him.
People don't respect Tony Khan because of Tony Khan!
No one to blame but himself!
His arrogance is off the charts! He actually thinks he is a good booker and sees him self at the level of the greats like Bill Watts, Jim Crocket, Verne Gane, Paul Heyman and others. And the only people telling him the truth are those who he considers enemies for questioning his judgement!
His real enemies are closer to him and tell him everything he wants to hear! Those parasites are making out like bandits and they will bleed his dad dry!

The biggest problem I have (I run a wrestling channel) in dealing with AEW fans because I watch NXT, WWE, & AEW with some TNA & others mixed in is that the AEW fans are BY FAR the most casual of them all & lack any knowledge.
This idea that they are the smartest or smarks is dead wrong. They lack even the basis of understanding of the business. I say this as someone who wrestled for 4 years and have been watching since 1983. Yet I have to listen to people who started in 2012 tell ME how things work who never spent a minute in the ring, & never saw Snuka off the cage.

I don't know if it's an original thought, or something he got from someone else, but I'm going to paraphrase Paul Heyman in response to Jim's comments newe the end about who should we cheer or boo. Paul said something to the effect of the concept or wrestling being easy. Who are these 2, why are they fighting, and why should I care? Just 3 simple things that have been lost lately. AEW has no clue. WWE didn't for awhile until Triple H was given the keys to the kingdom.

They can try to dislike and discredit all of these people until they are blue in the face but the one person that is most damning to their dismissals is how they ignore that Joey Janela has been saying the exact same thing about the problems backstage as Punk, the Rhodes and Big Swole ever since he left. And he is the literal definition of indie darling that they are trying to paint the Elite as.

I supported the indie wrestling scene for years with my money. I went and saw all the guys who are now top stars everywhere. Guys like Punk, Joe, AJ, Danielson, Rollins and such. Its funny, but if there's anyone to really blame for the death of the indies its Tony Khan, because he took that booking style and ran it directly into the ground in record time and gave guys who didn't deserve backstage power too much power. There's a shelf life to anything, even at ROH's peak Gabe Sapolsky lost it, by having matches end after 21 "Super Moves" and then a small package pinfall. Tony learned nothing from watching that stuff.
To equate Jim and Punk with Right Wing ideology is another example of these fans looking for boogeymen to band together against because the product they love is dogshit. The Bucks were/are Obama birthers, do these clowns know that?

Majority of wrestling fans are lefties, but I think AEW are even Further to the left than your average wrestling fan. If “all trump fans are rednecks” Cornette and “I’m gonna wear a pro choice tshirt on TV” Punk are all of a sudden right wingers, then what does that tell ya? lol
With that said, I’m a right winger and completely agree with Cornette on things when it comes to wrestling, and I have left wing friends that also agree with Cornette. I don’t know if it’s a “left or right” thing or a smart vs crazy thing lol

The rating system was smart back in the 80s when you had to slog through hours of VHS footage just to find one compelling match. It helped you track down better cards or make a comp of enjoyable stuff. That was useful. Now it’s been weaponized- ironically now that it’s utterly redundant.
