    I've been using my Atomos to record direct to a GDrive 1TB ssd, also allows me to capture in 10 bit 422 considering I'm using Sony cameras. Love using the GDrive Caddy as well. I can edit straight from that drive and then backup that footage to a backup drive without ever going to the main HD in the computer. Gonna check out getting a couple of the Angelbirds though! Hey Caleb.. at 2.37 you flipped the data around in your voice over .. Writes are 422...Reads are 521...
    But my question is about the GH5... If the highest data required is 400 mbs which translates into 50 MBs then why do you need these cards to go up to 300 MBs?

    • @algoriddimdjay
      @algoriddimdjay Před 6 lety

      It's "up to" 300Mb/s so a maximum speed, but for the 400MBit Codec (~50MB/s) you need a constant speed, it cant dip below or the recording will cancel or loose frames. Thats where the "V" rating comes in. The Angelbirds are V90 wich should guarantee a constant write speed of 90 MB/s which is more than enough for now. I have a V60 Card for my GH5 and its also above the 50 MB/s minimum so you're good. :)

    I have a feeling that Angelbird is just a marketing company. They source drives and slap their casing and logo on their products. I would probably say they are more of a service company than a product company.
    Another interesting tidbits is how the terminology used in "Reliability" spec differs across products. Some products only show MTBF and some (higher end) shows actual TBW (SSD Endurance). MTBF is commonly used back in HDD days, very few SSD manufactures uses this to measure SSD endurance. I have only seen very few manufactures (ADATA) use MTBF to confuse consumers. Endurance is the way to go...

    Love your content Caleb but I ran into serious trouble shooting with my GH5 and a 128GB AngelBird SD card today. Very run and gun setup capturing an event where I was switching between different recording formats (4K 25fps, 4K 60fps and FHD 180fps) and after about 45 minutes of shooting the card began to lock up after a few seconds of recording on all formats bar one. It got so bad that by the end of the shoot the only format I could safely record longer than 5-10 seconds in was the lowest 1920x1080 setting. Unfortunate to say the least, buyer beware.

    I really wanted to get one of these drives but I purchased their USB-C hub and it stopped working a few weeks after it arrived and they totally ghosted me. Never responded to several emails, tweets, messages, etc. It gave me a very bad feeling in purchasing other products from them. The USB-C hub was $130 and the drives almost $1000 in Canada. I don't want to buy from them and it fail and them ghost me again. I literally have a $130 paperweight and they will not respond to me to repair it, replace it, or refund me.

      Hello Luna,
      Does this company have a social media site? Try posting your situation on their page and see if you grt a response/solution. $130 is a lot of money to go out the window, especially when the product only worked for a few weeks. Sorry to hear about your troubles, hopefully posting publicly will make them realize what they’re doing is wrong.

Why don't they record it straight to nvme drives, they are three times the speed that he is saying is insane. we are talking 3,000mb/s read and 2,800mb/s write. Idk seems like a waste, I always go with cheapest external drives and expensive operating drives.
