As soon as I saw the USB-C drives I thought of the new BMPCC4K. Glad you took the time to edit that in there. Great stuff!
Nice to see it worked out, dude. Great video!
Ash Tailor waiting for your sensational videos sir ! I really miss your reviews xD
Hey man, great review! Love all your B-roll shots, keep up the good work!
Caleb, I just wanted to say, you put together gorgeous shots and setups. Never seizes to impress me. Big props dude.
So great to see Angelbird products make their way into a review. Great video Caleb. I think my personal favourite feature of the SSD
2Go drives is the native TRIM support on macOS. Keeps the drives running at their optimum for much longer as you rightly say in the video.
Loving the Soviet vintage glass in that thumbnail 🙌
nice...i needed this. great timing Caleb.
Oh, shoot! You know Ash! I respect that guys work so much. He is a killer cinematographer.
You should be awarded because of your amazing thumbnails, i lovee it❤️❤️
Excellent. I was looking for a good and fast SD Card for my GH5 and GH5s. Thanks, Caleb. Sorry, I missed you at NAB. I was there.
Sorry I missed you too man! You've been a loyal regular in the comments!!!
I've been using my Atomos to record direct to a GDrive 1TB ssd, also allows me to capture in 10 bit 422 considering I'm using Sony cameras. Love using the GDrive Caddy as well. I can edit straight from that drive and then backup that footage to a backup drive without ever going to the main HD in the computer. Gonna check out getting a couple of the Angelbirds though! Thanks for the video!
Hey Caleb, I like ur lighting set up in this video!
Great Video. I am interested to see some hands on real world usage of the Blackmagic pocket camera.
Nice product shots.
Killer gear, awesome video man!
I really wish you mentioned that the Angelbird Atomos Master Caddy 4K RAW SSD is not necessary for ProRes RAW. The G-Technology Atomos Master Caddy 4K SSD works perfectly fine for ProRes RAW and is half the price.
Bro I like the second set background. Which I think is at your work desk. You should do more shorts there, to switch things up.
Wow those are pricey! But I'm sure they're amazing. Those grooves on the Master Caddy are freaking amazing. I have G-Tech drives and it's so annoying to pull the drive, especially if you have even slightly sweaty hands.
Was just thinking about this. WOW!
What I'm looking for in upcoming mirrorless cameras, is the ability to record directly through SSD with USB port, so that no ext rec required, no more failing, full SD cards on the go... I initially thought recent cams could, but I was wrong :/
Got that Angelbird card for my GH5, love the innovation with the new drives but hate the prices 😭
Ayyy I got to borrow their cards and the Atomos SSD too! It's super nice and avoids the recording hiccups my cheapo SSDs have in my Ninja Inferno. Just wish I could actually afford them xD
You set that blue drive on the grey drive absolutely perfectly, and you only used that same shot like 5 times. I could watch you set that drive down all day. How many takes did you do to get it so perfect?
I love the intro music to your videos. Is that just the 5-10 seconds we hear on your videos or is there an entire track secretly hidden somewhere?
Cool stuff 😯
Video Standard level=Pro💯
Would love to know your opinion on the Sony FS5 mk ii
Hey! Great video! I've definitely overlooked storage when I upgraded to my Sony A7RIII. Have you had an experience with Sony cards? and would you say the Angel cards can do the job just as well?
We love your videos always watching. Just wondering if you can help us before purchasing SSD. How to connect an SSD on a Gh5.. And which one you recommend. Thank you.
Hey Caleb.. at 2.37 you flipped the data around in your voice over .. Writes are 422...Reads are 521...
But my question is about the GH5... If the highest data required is 400 mbs which translates into 50 MBs then why do you need these cards to go up to 300 MBs?
It's "up to" 300Mb/s so a maximum speed, but for the 400MBit Codec (~50MB/s) you need a constant speed, it cant dip below or the recording will cancel or loose frames. Thats where the "V" rating comes in. The Angelbirds are V90 wich should guarantee a constant write speed of 90 MB/s which is more than enough for now. I have a V60 Card for my GH5 and its also above the 50 MB/s minimum so you're good. :)
i still wait for the day slr and mirrorless would record to ssd's because of the data rate required. and it started by bmpcc 4k. most other companies probably will follow.
Will be perfect combination to shoot 4K 120fps with Z CAM E2.
Do I need those for sony a7iii? Or a cheaper san disc pro 64 do the trick for that camera?
Lexar UHS-II is the best and cheapest option. Can find it on ebay for 80 bucks sometimes for 128g :) Just alternative option and super fast!
Dang!
Since you announced that you will make new/revamped lighting kit videos it's like
Oh! New Video 😀.
No lighting kit upgrade... 😔
Wow were is it going to slow done a bit unreal the speed that we are traveling at thanks for the post
Bought the card from Angelbird and my GH5 got frozen on the first day of shooting. Saw other similar comments on the internet, so be careful and test them thoroughly when buy them. Returned to B&H and waiting for a refund. In the meantime bought one from Sandisk and so far everything works fine.
3:20 speaking of which, would you consider doing a video on this topic? laptops that can handle RAW RED video editing? or can you recommend a specific laptop? thanks :)
I have a feeling that Angelbird is just a marketing company. They source drives and slap their casing and logo on their products. I would probably say they are more of a service company than a product company.
Another interesting tidbits is how the terminology used in "Reliability" spec differs across products. Some products only show MTBF and some (higher end) shows actual TBW (SSD Endurance). MTBF is commonly used back in HDD days, very few SSD manufactures uses this to measure SSD endurance. I have only seen very few manufactures (ADATA) use MTBF to confuse consumers. Endurance is the way to go...
Are the AngelBird V90 cards compatible with the dual recording options on the GH5/GH5s, a few of the other brand V90 cards are not working correctly.
Hi, for Fuji XT3 can we record to something like samsung t5 instead of SD cards or atomos ninja or external monitors.!?
Future Caleb looking slimmer! Is that due to the setup or are there some changes there? Hmm 🤔
Hej, great Video. I just get around 300 Write in my Angelbird SSD2go PKT. got two of them. And both same Write Speed. I use a mbp 13 with touchbar. Any advice? Thanks
Ive been using ANGELBIRDS 4TB CF EXPRESS CARD for a little while in my GH6 FLAWLESSLY! Until 2.0 firmware update. Now i cannot format or do anything w this card except look at a message of error that THE CF EXPRESS CARD EXCEEDS 2 TB. How do you reload the old firmware that came w my GH6 when only firmware offered now is the new 2.0? How can my camera be now throttled when the card is more than capable and reliable w the best warranty? For real !? Thanks
How is this future proofing? A TB SSD will get old faster than your gasoline car.
HOW DO YOU TRANSFER THE FOOTAGE TO THE COMPUTER WITH THE ANGELBIRD 500?
So I can buy one of these drives, plug it directly to my GH5 and record onto it?
The PKT are so tiny! WOW
I would love to see the 6k anamorphic mode in action
Many of these b roll shots were captured via the 6K mode ;-) You don't have to use Anamorphic lenses!
Love your content Caleb but I ran into serious trouble shooting with my GH5 and a 128GB AngelBird SD card today. Very run and gun setup capturing an event where I was switching between different recording formats (4K 25fps, 4K 60fps and FHD 180fps) and after about 45 minutes of shooting the card began to lock up after a few seconds of recording on all formats bar one. It got so bad that by the end of the shoot the only format I could safely record longer than 5-10 seconds in was the lowest 1920x1080 setting. Unfortunate to say the least, buyer beware.
Hi Kerry, We're very sorry you had problems with our product. Please contact our helpdesk. We will sort it out in any case: helpdesk at angelbird.com.
Hey there. I ended up getting the card back sent to your warehouse for a firmware update through my local retailer, just waiting for the card to come back now. Fingers crossed for a healthy return!
I tried the Angelbird V90 cards in my GH5 and ran into trouble with them closing out files in 4k 60p. It would take up to 10 seconds to close out a 5 second recording while my other (non V90) cards close the same recording in 1 second. Have you experienced this? Thanks for the video!
Hi Scott, If you have experienced an issue, please contact our helpdesk. We will sort it out: helpdesk at angelbird.com.
I did when I first got the card and settled on returning the card to B&H. As there was no clear solution other than to try another card. Thank you anyways.
Thank you for your feedback. If you will need any information in future, please contact us.
Nice
hello calles, great chanel!!!
name of the intro's song?
I hate the price for the SSD in the cinema industrie
This is MLC we can ave the same thing for two time less on computeur SSD (also mlc)
Or better if we use Nvme drive
And thank for the great vid ^^
Red mag is the worst (and we don't know what type of memory they use. If it were SLC, I think he'd say it.)
God damn I need to sell everything I own to get into a solid 4k workflow
So it’s 2020. Angelbird pkt mk2 512g is now $198. Is this legit. I know ssd prices age fast but damn.
Like Casey Neistat and Peter McKinnon, you should hire a B-Role-Monkey too.
Oh no, "SSD 2GO" French speaking people could see that as a 2GB SSD. Because GB (GigaByte) in French is GO (Gigaoctet) :D
Maaaan, what a rip, the prices!
Think I'd save the money and put an M.2 drive in a caddy, or better yet, an M.2 NVMe drive, and have twice the speed of these for half the price.
I really wanted to get one of these drives but I purchased their USB-C hub and it stopped working a few weeks after it arrived and they totally ghosted me. Never responded to several emails, tweets, messages, etc. It gave me a very bad feeling in purchasing other products from them. The USB-C hub was $130 and the drives almost $1000 in Canada. I don't want to buy from them and it fail and them ghost me again. I literally have a $130 paperweight and they will not respond to me to repair it, replace it, or refund me.
Hello Luna,
Does this company have a social media site? Try posting your situation on their page and see if you grt a response/solution. $130 is a lot of money to go out the window, especially when the product only worked for a few weeks. Sorry to hear about your troubles, hopefully posting publicly will make them realize what they’re doing is wrong.
- Paul
Yes. I sent them over a dozen tweets over the span of three months. I sent emails as well and I use one of those services to see when folks open my emails and I got a notification that they saw it every time I sent one. They ghosted me. And then later removed the USB-C hub from their website and I heard this happened to other people but don't know anyone first hand.
Hi Luna, I just saw your post which made me wonder on the situation as I did not find any message from you in our system. First of all I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience with our C-Hub, which we will of course replace for you. Therefore can you please get in contact via helpdesk at angelbird.com.
Hi Luna, I see that Angelbird did finally reply on here. Did they keep their promise and send you a replacement? I would love to know the outcome of this as I am considering buying one of Angelbirds products but I am very put off by this story of ghosting when you asked for post sales support.
Thanks for commenting! I didn't see their message until now because I don't use CZcams that much. I'm going to follow-up with them and once they reach back out I'll let you know how it goes.
It looked like a usb C or thunderbolt cable
dude 8bit = 1 Byte. 400MB means 400 Mega Bytes ..not 400 Mega bit
But how do I convince my wife I should pay this much for any of it. lol
Woops, you had your read and writes mixed up. No biggie
the google reviews of Angelbirds SD cards says differently
I have a question, because the Caleb of the past is more chubby, in the future will the rise in equipment prices make us more skinny? 😊
Why does anybody want to edit 4k off of an external drive? Why don't they record it straight to nvme drives, they are three times the speed that he is saying is insane. we are talking 3,000mb/s read and 2,800mb/s write. Idk seems like a waste, I always go with cheapest external drives and expensive operating drives. I guess if you need this as a working drive than go for it. sd cards are still good. just pricey, wait like 4 months and san disk will catch up.
I have a question, because the Caleb of the past is more chubby, in the future will the rise in equipment prices make us more skinny?
don´t buy a SSD thinking in the future as investment cause same than cards they will drop soon in prices
Caleb are you on diet? future Caleb is slimmer :D
First
Why do they look like cheap chinese knock offs ? O recommend the Samsung t3 for storing your files, extremely reliable and fast and their EVO sd cards
1st !
Brooo....your intro music is so raaaad!!
🤑not for the Amateurs
Can't wait to play with the BMPCC 4K and use these sexy SD cards/SSDs! Hopefully that camera is all that Blackmagic promises!
DSLR Video Shooter Hey, I was wondering how would the camera be if I use a metabones for EF lenses. All my cine and Canon L glass of course are EF. Would you recommend this if not what should a great lens to start with upon purchasing the camera be?
Yes when you get your hands on the bmpcc4k can you please make a video trying out the metabones speed booster? I want to know which one will work for it
