  • Sung by the Plymouth Choir, First-Plymouth Church, Lincoln Nebraska conducted by Tom Trenney, Jan 26, 2014 as the Offertory Anthem
I will arise and go to Jesus, He will embrace me in His arms,
In the arms of my dear Savious, Oh! There are ten thousand charms.
Teach me some melodious sonnet sung by flaming tongues above,
Praise the mount, I'm fixed upon it, mount of Thy redeeming love.
Come, thou fount of ev'ry blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy grace.
Streams of mercy never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise.
    arr. Alice Parker

Exactly the way it should be sung. (At least fairly close to the way Richard Hoffland directed us in the Millikin University Choir in the 1970's!)

Only my opinion -- but I think it's too "pretty." The performance sounds like an interpretation of Palestrina. I think it should be sung with a great deal more energy and a pronounced sense of rhythm and beat. The choir is obviously skilled and sings beautifully. I just think the interpretation is way too serene.

+Arthur Roach yes, I agree -- this is a Sacred Harp shapenote tune, and it would be belted out in a much more energetic manner.

I don’t disagree and I don’t hate it as it is either. I’m so happy to hear it sung simply, without extra chord changes in the harmony and without any happy-clappy guitars or smiling contemporary Christian voices. I love this song.

My high school choir Director agreed so at some parts like at “come “ we made it like a Jesus punch (best way to describe it) lol

I love seeing the confusion in this comment without any reason.
