I read The Black Flamigo last year because Dean Atta was at a book event I go to and he was so lovely! His flight was delayed so he didn't get to do his panel but he was so great to talk to during the signing! Also someone bought him a flamingo teddy which was so cool!
I love The Black Flamingo so much that I am going to buy the physical copy as well, as I have read it on my ebook reader :D The Rain ASMR was everything. And congrats on 20K you deserve that, I really enjoy watching your videos

I read Don't Call Us Dead for the readathon too! I can't wait to read Homie and I've been eyeballing the Black Flamingo for a couple weeks now, so you've officially convinced me to finally buy it. Thanks for turning me onto the readathon and for recommending such greats books! I picked up Pet on your recommendation and it's one of my favorite books so far this year, and after watching your last couple of videos I've got Patsy, Slay, and Freshwater waiting in my TBR stack. I visualized the ship in An Unkindness of Ghosts as a giant ball with Baby Sun at the center, and the decks shifting around it like in Vortex, that old iPod wheel game. Like the farm decks were the closest to the sun, so I visualized them as rotating it, but like gravity is always to the floor even though there is no up.

The Black Flamingo was one of my favourite books last year and I am so glad to see people reading it and loving it. Felix Ever After is one of my most hyped books despite not being interested in Kacen Callendar's fantasy works (I think their contemporary is more my vibe) so to hear you love it has made me so happy. I just finished Adri from perpetualpages' video on how they loved Felix Ever After too and so when I finish my current audiobook (All Boys Aren't Blue - absolutely loving it by the way) I'm going to get this.
Totally agree with you on connecting more with spoken word. I have a feeling that's why I prefer watching youtube videos to regular tv - because when people get passionate about something they develop this energy and rhythm that transfixes me. Exactly like when you began discussing Felix Ever After or Don't Call Us Dead. I'll add Danez Smith to my list of audiobooks I NEED.

I really agree about the poetry. I find it doesn't matter the poetry it always comes across better spoken than reading. If I can't find an audio copy of a poetry collection I tend to read them out loud softly to myself. I dunno they just make more sense to me that way. Love the vlog! 😊❤

Black Flamingo sounds so beautiful, I can't wait to read it! I love the phrase gender-ascending, it sounds so freeing. You did such a good job getting through all those books! The readathon coincided with the ONLY social event I've had since before quarantine started so I only managed to get halfway through my readathon pic of Girl, Woman Other, and also... I'm an idiot and messed up the readathon timings... 😅 I really need to get my reading vlog edited and uploaded!

Also, yes - you're not alone with the braid clock lol. I grew up getting my hair done in braids and twists so occasionally I will wake up with that feeling. I don't always fulfill it though because sometimes I really don't wanna sit down for hours lol.
I had ordered The Black Flamingo already.. but that quote about drag gave me goosebumps, because it was so good! I ordered Felix Ever After too, I'm so glad you loved it so much. I have heard amazing things of Felix Ever After. Oh yes, I sometimes intend to read but then use my phone and get on Instagram and get distracted from reading. I loved seeing your plant collection! I read An Unkindness of Ghosts in 2019, and liked it but didn't love it. I think it'd be a great book for me to re-read at some point. It looks comfy on the roof, a nice reading place! Wow, that's quite a bit of rain! No, I couldn't really imagine how the ship of An Unkindness of Ghosts looked, either. I have that problem with more books though. But yes, I could not really imagine how the decks shifted over each other. I really liked Full Disclosure, I read it in one afternoon which is unusual for me for a 300-page text novel. I ordered The Deep. I was so happy to see on Instagram that your CZcams channel had hit 20K!! So well deserved!! I read If It Makes You Happy by Claire Kann, which is about a Black queer fat teenager named Winnie and it involves food and family and a queerplatonic relationship, and I really liked it. Admittedly I didn't finish it until after the weekend was over, I haven't been doing as much reading as I usually dobecause I've been busy packing up stuff for my move this summer. I loved this vlog!

This video made me envious - simply because I cannot find Felix Ever After anywhere. (It's mostly sold out, which is a great thing and I'm happy that such a thing happened.) Also because I can't grow plants to save my life, but there are plenty of people who can and that is something I'll have to make peace with. For the publishing blackout, I ended up buying ebooks of The Black Flamingo and The Black Veins. My friend actually read The Black Flamingo and happened to mention that she loved it when I talked to her a few weeks ago, so I was already hyped to read it. Your excitement and love for it definitely made it my next book to read.

i recently read an unkindness of ghosts and i loved it, it is one of my all time favourite books now! i could visualise the ship to some extent but only in the moment/ a very compartmentalised way! also congrats on 20k thats amazing x

Scattered thoughts: I just started the audiobook of Black Flamingo. As much as the rain disappointed you, the shots of the candle with the rain gave me so much peace. I had so much trouble picturing the Field Decks in An Unkindness of Ghosts (which was definitely ☆☆☆☆☆). ASOWAR! Oh my goodness. My library hold on the audiobook came in this morning.

I feel the same way about poetry. I much prefer to hear it spoken than read it so I guess I will be getting the audio for Don't Call Us Dead.

an unkindness of ghosts is so so so fuckign good!! yeah the physical descriptions of the ship were lacking but to be honest I was too invested in the characters and plot to care about being able to visualize the setting lol. I'm so glad you enjoyed all the books you read.
Karamo Brown’s memoir was really good - he talks a lot about growing up gay but also his identity as the son of an immigrant and how he would tell his classmates to call him K.K. So he wouldn’t be made fun of. And his time on The Real World and what he regrets and doesn’t regret about that experience. Also meeting his son for the first time was my favorite part of the book. So many great parts!
